Some of the greatest English talents wouldn't have been much kop on University Challenge -Gazza, Hoddle, even Scholes. But there's intelligence in ball control and spatial awareness and Barkley's got it. I want to see Utd teams doing the unexpected and finding the angles and retaining possession in an easy in the eye way again and with a Barkley and Pogba in the mix it could happen.
I agree that there is no definite correlation between academic intelligence and football intelligence but you have to admit that Barkley's facial expression is quite uninspiring and he is no Gazza or Scholes when it comes to football ability.
Anyway he is just not good enough to play for us, we need world class players or at least ones who have the potential to become one.

There we simply differ in opinion, I'd say he is. As for world class or potentially world class players neither of this summer's signigs are. Barkley has more natural talent than both and if he comes relatively cheap he's got to be worth a punt in this insane market. Plus I don't want to be in the position of envying Tottenham's roll call of talent: Dembele, Erikson, Alli, plus Barkley would put us in the shade. I already think there's a serious danger we will be off the pace this season.

I'd really like Barkley here, I think he's be a great signing.
Him and Sanchez would be great but I doubt we're after either.

Will leave it a that but I hope that you are right if he comes here and wrong if he goes to Spurs.

Direct quote from Koeman.

That guy is a journalist & an Everton fan.

In his earlier tweets he was saying he was going to Finch farm today.

Spurs?

Koeman also said that he would not be offered an extension... seems to be available on the cheap. Better than Fellaini and Lingard.. worth a punt for 10-15m.

I would take him. Barkley, Bale and Matic would be a nice finish to our transfer dealings.

Think he is Spurs bound though

His value won't decrease, even if he flops; £20m this summer with a year left on his contract would be £30m minimum to another PL club next summer if he has a long contract.

I think Pocchettino will turn him into a monster, whereas Jose 'could'; either way, it's a risk worth taking

If we got him cheap enough I wouldn't moan. The Lukaku and especially Rooney deals should pave the way for that at least.

However, if this is a sign that he's going to Spurs and that we are going to overpay for Dier it's another matter!

Behind Lukaku, and Pogba/Herrera behind him.

In a 4231?

I guess if we play a 4231, we could have a three roaming attacking midfielders of Rashford, Mkhi and Barkley behind Lukaku. He played wide right for Everton the last couple months of the season, and he did a very good job there.

He would defo be a useful squad option in my opinion and you could use him in a 433 or diamond too. He would get plenty of minutes

I'm really disappointed in him. From a progression viewpoint and that he's decided not to renew his contract. Id be surprised if he was able to move to a better team that would play him more than we would.

I think hes pretty foolish really.
He's lucky to be first choice at a club like yours, theres no chance in hell he starts for any club above you.

Is it true he jas 12 months left on his contract?

If so i would wait 12 months and pick him up for free!

I think he'd be ideal for us, I really really rate Barkley.
I certainly see why a lot of people might be a bit cautious on him though, he's not the world beater yet that he was once touted to be.
I think if we get him in and put him with Herrera and Pogba in that midfield it would have a brillaint balance of pace, power and perhaps most importantly skill.
With Pereria, Carrick and Fellaini as subs we'd have good options too.
I'd be all over this one if I was Mourinho.

I get quite nervous seeing this thread bumped.

Bearing in mind he's already on 100k a week, and they're asking £50m.

It'd be a horrible transfer, unless we got him for £10m and used him as Pogba's "Rest" guy

I think he'd be good as an No. 10 or right winger in the big matches when Jose wants to be more defensive, and if he takes Fellaini's place for a fairly cheap price then I'm all for it. I have a friend that is an Everton fan, and he really rates Barkley, so I think Barkley could be a useful option.

There is absolutely no chance what so ever that anybody is getting him for 10-15 million even with the current circumstances.

One of the more interesting transfers of the summer because I have no clue where he goes from here. He clearly wants one of the big clubs but at this stage, will any of them actually try to pull the trigger on him? I'm not so sure they will this summer.

I think i'd rather Pereira getting a chance.
I guess i'd consdier swapping him for lingaard who i've kind of given up on after last season but im not even convinced he'd be an improvement there.
Lingaard seems like more of a winger than him, which we need more at the moment, so actually i wouldn't even do that.

If they replace him with Sigurdsson, I'll call it an upgrade.

Same

Sanchez is world class, Barkley isn't.

Renato Sanches or Alexis Sanchez.

RS is not as good as Barkley. But Barkley isn't that great. Everton is his right level.
AS is top class and would do very well for us - though from what I hear, he is extremely greedy.

I've not been impressed with him for a while. Maybe worth a punt but not really what I'm looking for, plus I don't see it happening anyway.

I'd take Barkley on the cheap. I think Mourinho could get the best out of him and stop him over-complicating his football.

Would be happy to have him at Spurs. Pochettino could very well be the right manager to get the best from him.
