Ross Barkley | Stays at Everton

Maybe Son? But Son scores quite a few.

Kane
Eriksen - Alli - Barkley
Dembele - Wanyama
Rose - Vertonghen - Alderweireld - Trippier
Lloris
Pardon for going Slightly off topic, but looking at that midfield and if they add Barkley, it's weird Spurs are playing hardball over Dier. They really could do without him and apparently need money for the stadium move.

They'll need to get someone in or trust kids to provide the necessary cover at both CM and CB, not surprising they want to keep him really.

Spurs stories picking up pace now. Who exactly would he get a game ahead of there? I think this could turn into another Sissoko type signing for them (if it happens, of course).

Squad depth

I agree. He's not part of their best 11 imo.

Possibly alright. I actually quite like Son though, he racked up a good number of goals and assists last season. I still don't really know what Barkleys best role is. He seems a-bit of a tactical nuisance.

We aren't interested in selling Dier. He is also happy to stay.

I agree but I also think he could add much needed squad depth and has potential to improve. I hope we get him.

Would love him at Utd, under the right manager I think he will become a very good player.

Seems like he is there for the taking and we have a decent relationship with Everton.

rated him when he was younger but he seems to have stood still or even gone backwards in terms of skill and attitude and a long way forward in terms of being an utter arse!

He showed some real quality under Martinez, who the proceeded to make him a scapegoat when things went to shit. I do think, he has a lot to give and I would be slightly gutted to see him going to Spurs / Chelsea.

If Jose thinks Shaw lacks football IQ I'm pretty sure he wants nothing to do with Barkley.

I don't think Everton fans want him there. I was reading a few Everton fan twitter pages yesterday to see what they thought about Rooney, and Barkley kept popping up, for example:

Which was retweeted by @EvertonArentWe, another big Everton fan account.

To be fair he is vastly overrated simply because he's English. He'd do well to stay and make it at Everton, especially considering the positive direction they're heading.

Everton fans don't seem to rate any of their players or managers. A terrible case of the grass being greener.

I don't really rate Barkley but he's too similar to what we already have. Mhkitaryan has a burst of acceleration and ability to drive through the middle like Barkley and Martial has the height and superior dribbling ability while also being younger and having a higher ceiling. If we're signing another attacker it should be a more traditional winger.

I think it was Leon Osman who got it spot on. Barkley was as good as he is currently when he was 17. He seems to have hit a wall of progression. I'd have expected him to be way better than he is now. Boys got talent.

Would have loved him in 2014. I was fully on the gravytrain, but not now.

Barely a squad player for where United want to be. Expensive and overrated.

I agree though the hope is that with a proper coach he could push on and become the player many thought he could become.

Agree.

Now if he would accept the role of a traditional centre mid, as he should have done from the off, I'd still be really interested in him.

Has all the tools for it but seemingly prefers the No.10 spot. Maybe he's no appetite for the gritty side of the game.

Different players i know, but i would love him here ahead of Perisic. A solid young player who still can improve and understands Lukaku's game

Very similar to rooney, both in that respect and playing style.

Im not a big barkley fan but hes got a great footballing relationship with lukaku and would help us get the best out him. The off pitch rumours of him being on the wrong side of liverpool gangsters dont fill you with confidence in terms of his character though..

I doubt he currently has the consistent quality to bench a Son. Let alone Lamela if he ever returns to full fitness. What he'd do is deepen Spurs' squad depth.

I think that's right.

When they play 4 at the back, they basically have 4 positions to fill, with Kane as a 9 (Janssen), Son as a wing forward/Cristiano type (I guess this is N'koudou's role and Lamela if he comes back, also Sissoko maybe) and then Alli and Eriksen both play as creative fairly central midfielders with Eriksen looking to get on the ball and hit passes and Alli doing most of his work off the ball and trying to get into the box. Spurs don't really have any decent backup for them and Barkley would fill that role, and at 23 with some upside and a decent set of overall physical tools could be a player who thrives under Pochettino.

This seems like a decent move for Spurs, though I do think they could use some real pace in their attack for big games. Ideally they'd sell Sissoko and either N'Koudou or Lamela and use the cash on a proper, pacy goalscoring winger to challenge Son or even play opposite him in games where they want their wingers to be threats.

Can't see them getting a ready made star, but they did spot Bale once upon a time. I think if you put a player like him on Spurs, with their good coaching and physical, defensively solid back 6/7 and Kane and Alli as threats through the middle they'd be ready to be the strongest English side in the Champions league, but for now I think they're a little lacking in pace and ability to stretch teams up top and it's going to be tough for them to turn into a cagey, physical almost Italian side that can control games and get their big 9 and star 10 enough chances to win games.

I had thought he played mostly on the right last season, the above links shows that he played about 50% of the time out wide - he also got a much higher rating out wide than as the number 10 people think him to be.

He's not a conventional winger, but he can beat his man and has pace - I think people would assume he is a Mata/Rooney on the wing, which I don't think is a true reflection.

The post from yesterday 'a case study on spurs transfer strategy' was mostly guff, but if you were to look at how spurs operate - they sign young english players at decent fees - they've been doing it for years and it generally pays off.

All media outlets saying United might swoop late on Barkley for 15m.

Everton keen to get rid and Jose interested as squad option.

Personally wouldn't say no at that price as you could move him on with negligible loss if he failed.

Yeah 15 million is nothing (?) in this market especially for someone who Everton want about £50 million for reportedly. Worth taking a chance at that price with a squad role in mind.

Would take him for in-and-around that price as it's not a massive gamble and the money could easily be recouped if things didn't work out.

Last time I checked Times (Paul Joyce) and Telegraph (Matt law) reported that Chelsea and ManUtd are waiting for the price to drop as Everton wants 50 Million. Spurs are the one who are in for him but the other 2 clubs are playing waiting game for now. Didn't read 15 Million anywhere.

The likes of Stoke, Palace, West Ham would offer at least 25 mil.
