You can’t have a three behind a striker who are interchanging positions and playing 1-2 passes when the striker in question is Lukaku.

He sticks out like a sore thump up front. It’s like wearing the best tailored suit money can buy and then topping it off with a baseball cap.

We need someone who is more mobile and can move to create space for Sánchez and Lingard.

He's replaced Rooney in pretty much every way.

His stats will always be brilliant. He'll always divide opinion

Say what you want about his all round game but the service he gets is absolutely awful.

It really is. It's partly because we don't have a said system that we follow in the offensive third. Mostly its just

1 )Sanchez, Jesse and Mata deciding to play intricate passes until something works out with Lukaku maybe involved in the end of it

2 ) The valencia or Shaw ball in which almost always misses its mark.

Got his goal against relegation fodder as predicted. Guess his fans will use this for some time to defend him. Despite the fact his allround performance was poor. He's weak and has poor technique. A 6'4" Chicharito.

Chicharito always love to make intelligent run and got great movement. Lukaku is definitely the pace version of Heskey. :D

I may be alone but I thought Lukaku played. He made a lot of intelligent runs but was ignored, especially in the first half. His touch let him down a few times on the counter. When he really needed it to be good it was though and we scored. I'll take that.

I always see comments like this and it’s baffling. How can you tell we dont have patterns of play we follow?

I just don't think his overall game has improved since joining. Willingness to run and clock miles aside, he looks very much the same forward that bagged 20+ but not enough to mask the flaws in his game at Everton.

Nothing against Lukaku but we really do need more for that position than what he has offered so far.

Because we don't get a clear cut chance or score on every attack, it seems. Judging by the match day threads.

His hold up play was good today. He's improving. Needs to be sharper and move better in the box.

I think so because I see Lingard, Sanchez and Mata drifting off their positions trying to make things work in different parts of the pitch with a lot of freedom.

I second this. Lukaku is a good striker, no doubt, but imagine having someone like Kun instead of him in our team.

He’s class. He should absolutely be our #9.

I want Dybala or Griezmann in the summer to play alongside him and Sanchez though.

Indeed.

He would've been a good £30m backup striker, but he's never a £75m first choice striker for a big club.

I don't disagree but I think his movement is surprisingly poor for a striker with 97 goals.

Imagine if we had a peak Van Persie or Rooney to partner with our attacking players. We'd be killing teams. I still have hope Lukaku can drastically improve in some areas, but it's still frustrating.

We nees to low key apply some glue on his boots cause some of his touches can be hilarious at times  The clumsiness increases the closer we get to the box

He can’t be a fixture in our attack for the next 5 years. He’s no United striker for me. Rather Martial at centre forward.

His overall game has improved tremendously since joining. His work rate for a start is night and day compared to what it was at Everton. Even when he went through that spell of not scoring he was contributing. If he's not getting assists he's bringing players into play.

I just don't see how anyone can say he hasn't improved - he clearly has. Still has more room for improvement, of course, but I'm very happy with him so far.

Blimey, really surprising how many are putting a fork in him. Created the winner against Burnley with a very good pass. Came on and scored against Yeovil. Scored the vital opening goal today. Prior to that he scored against Stoke and Derby.
The only game he didn't deliver was against Tottenham which was obviously a game that we struggled to make it pass the halfway line.

He is delivering in a team that had struggled against bottom half teams last season. Sure he can look clumsy and today he had an overall game that was a bit off, messing up two breaks. But I don't see him being a problem. It's a bit congested behind him and the full backs aren't making good crosses at all.

:lol::lol:

He's got 6 assist this season as well and at times has shown he has very good link up play. He needs more consistency in his game but it'll come he's only 24.
His age is a bit misleading due to how early he started playing senior football, imo. He's played close to 300 club games now and however many internationals, he should be close to the finished article at this stage. I don't think we'll see much more improvement from him.

I think he improved his link up play since he joined United. Still a lot to be desired to be fair.

It is a sad thing to say but £75 million is becoming the new £30 million anyway...no player is going to move clubs for less than £50 million these days (baring the odd exception) so give it another season and £75million will not look like such an outlay for Rom.

With the addition of Sanchez i think Jose is 1 player away from having to rotate the pack just to keep them all happy...which will result in Rom being on the bench more often.

As a striker, the ways to get a passing grade are IMO to have a good all around game and impact it through that if you aren't a regular goalscorer, or score in like 75% of the games you play if the rest of your game is below par.

Today, Lukaku scored so gets a pass. But he hasn't been good this season overall because he hasn't scored regularly at all while the rest of his game mediocre. Martial isn't as good of a striker as him yet, I'm not saying that, but I would much rather see him play up top in big games and just bench Lukaku in them since we'd be so much more complete as a side all around. Even in games like today. Lukaku offered next to nothing, couldn't hold it up, just flicks on random passes instead of doing something with any pass that goes into him. He really needs to offer way more then what he does currently if we want to step up in games and just be more fluid and consistent in our attack. Putting someone like Firmino up top instead of Lukaku, he wouldn't score more individually but we would score way more as a team overall.

Directly involved in 25 goals and it's only the start of February. You swear people here never saw him play before, he is a good striker who will score when good crosses are delivered. His big chance conversion percentage is good and he might improve further with Sanchez' introduction.
