He took his goal well but he needs to be doing so much more in his general play. His control is awful and he's so often caught on his heels and slow to react to things, and doesn't seem to be able to go past a defender.

Oh so he isnt a big game player if he doesnt score goals against the big teams this month ...i see

Ooohhh "this month"? Pretty sure this thread is about 2017/2018 not just "this month". How many goals has he scored against top 6 sides this season? against top 10 sides this season?

Stick someone up top long enough for the better side and he is bound to score now and then.

Thing is, this is a 10/10 performance from Lukaku if this was Spurs we were playing against. Teams like that, I expect us to slog a bit and our striker can get isolated and do nothing, only to produce a game winning goal from nowhere. But against the lesser teams, you need to do what Sanchez has been doing if you are a top player, besides scoring.

He need to be the last man on our attack , a poacher who needs full service . If he had rvn kind of service back then he would score more

Hes scored more than kane this week

I can't believe we'll go into next season with the setup of our team tailored to a player who isn't elite. Happy with him as an option, but not as the focal point of attack. Been trying to make myself believe that he's better than he is, but I've given it up. The lack of agility and first touch at this level is enormously restraining.

I'd be shopping for a world class striker in the summer if I were Jose, and Lukaku can be backup. I've seen enough to be confident he's not going to elevate us to the level we want to be.

Terrible performance but grabbed a goal. Hopefully does better moving forward.

97 PL goals before 25 and he isn't elite?

You reckon Mourinho had nothing to do with Lukaku coming in or something?

No. He's a great striker for most sides. For top sides, he's too limited.

Well let's walk before we can run. We're not a top side yet.

I'd be content with a striker who can score the chances we give him.

That's the problem, we will need to spend more more money just to get the best out of our 75m-90m striker. He needs like 9/10 rating of service aka Beckham.

Looked like he was limping in the stands then. Maybe why he came off instead of Alexis.

I'm fine with him. Scores when he's given almost any kind of service.
His link up play looks clumsy but he has a knack for making some good passes aswell.

I would not worry about Lukaku. It is the lack of service that I would worry about.

Chicken and egg scenario. With an elite striker we'd be more fluid and our attacking players could express themselves better, midfield and defence would have less calamity to deal with. But like I said, happy with him as an option (from next season onwards).

I also don't think it's great for a player to be an automatic choice, regardless of performance. But the main problem is how featuring him limits our style of play. He could score 25 goals in a season, but it wouldn't tell the whole story.

Good finish but that little moment where Sanchez played him in and he just fell over and took a bad touch sums him up at the moment, not sharp enough and too slow.

We are so much more fluid when he's not playing.

Can't deny he scores goals, but he's not much of a footballer.

He's been legit shocking despite the goal. Needs to be doing so much more
Not sure he was shocking but agree, the goal shouldn't mask his deficiencies.

His link-up play is seriously average. We were breaking at the end of the first half and he ruined the move by playing the ball behind mata, even though he was under no pressure.

Hopw Rashford is ready to play 9 soon. He'd give us so much more than Lukaku and he's got just as much goal threat.

Got his goal against relegation fodder as predicted. Guess his fans will use this for some time to defend him. Despite the fact his allround performance was poor. He's weak and has poor technique. A 6'4" Chicharito.

Well taken goal, the first goal in a match that was threatening to frustrate us. Of course that vital contribution can be used to defend him.

Decetn finish but it doesn't paper over the cracks of how poor his all round game is, you can't carry a pure poacher at the level we are aiming for.

Well we got him as solution to our problem of last season, where we couldnt score vs lower/mid table teams.
So yea, he is doing part of his job, yes, we arent blind, there are issue with some other parts of his game but either we give him better/more service or we just use him as focal point and someone who can open space for others.
