Can't imagine Morata finishing that. His first touch is fine. But who cares about the first touch anyway, when he is a goal scoring beast, who has good pace and good hold up play. This guy has all the attributes to succeed for United. His pace and ability to draw defenders makes him more deadly than Zlatan, opens up space for other players. Also he's built like a friggin tank, a guy you would hate to defend against. Cherry on top is he's young and has room to improve. Once he became available, choosing him over Morata was a no brainer.

Feck the haters. Watch him score 30+ easily this season.

I think he has realised that he needs to up his all round game to be a star here and it sounds like hes determined to work hard. Very promising signs.

You add in Zlatan and we'll have a strong team. Just need better width.

Really impressed with his finish last night. Didn't think he had it in him to be honest.
Physically challenge the keeper and win but also the angle and control for the goal.
He made it look easy.

Hopeful this is a sign of more goals to come! :D

Needs to grow his hair back out tbh

When has players with long hair played well or should I say played better for us than short?

I've never like long hair on players and I know how ridiculous that sounds. Something about aerodynamics lolffs.

Incoming poll thread.

Tevez could be just because he doesn't have a neck, though.

Only complaint so far would be that he doesnt seem to have much of a leap and hasnt been great in the air. It'll come but given how big of a guy he is, he could be dominating defences single handedly in the air. Other then that, going to be class for sure

Ruud van Nistelrooy had pretty long hair. I just think Big Rom would seem slightly more intimidating to defenders with that crazy hair he used to have, he looked proper beastly.

It generally hasnt been an an issue take a look at his aerial duel stats, he is a beast there too (in fact it may be part of the stats that show him to have a poor first touch, i.e. he wins aerial duels which are difficult to direct)

had me slightly reminiscing about Sparky in Rotterdam 1991
Yeah, me too. Feeling momentarily deflated about him taking it too wide then smashing it in anyway from an acute angle. Very sparky-esque!

He's getting better each match, that goal was top class, he really shouldn't be scoring goals like that from those sorts of angles against a team like City.

His finishing cool could really be the decisive thing that makes us edge out games like those we draw last season at home.

lukaku-rashford-micki does look exciting to be honest. want to add alexis sancez to the list but if he is not joining us,which is the situation i beleive, i hope he leaves england.

back to lukaku, he is indeed like us rolling back to the years of sir alex signing a PL proven striker. he has been banging in the goals and has 85 league goals and is yet to reach 25.

think he can have a andy cole like career with us. 7 or 8 top seasons with 150+ goals. maybe even better.

Was thinking this as well. We dominated on the pitch but were constantly let down by being unable to make our performances count and I'm looking forward to seeing this change with Lukaku in the picture.

Love the fact when we had Zlatan last season we were not getting bullied but then missed the pace and movement in behind. With Lukaku we are getting both he's an absolute beast of a physical specimen. Plus his finishing is deadly. Hopefully we can add to our midfield behind him to save the wide player dropping so deep. Matic would be such a good signing.

Great goal from a difficult angle .Looking forward to him banging them in where it matters.

Morata was my preferred fiirst choice but Lukaku is a beast. What a finish that was and the shot which he hit the woodwork was absolutely smashed, no keeper in the world saves that. I believe he is going to be huge for us this season can be a difference maker in our league table finishing at the end of season.

Zlat's definitely coming back!

I am not that sure
Maybe
At least I hope

Not only his finishing but his actual desire to score goals. So many times we've put in crosses and he is there ready to tap them in, but just missed him by a few feet.

Last few years that's happened nobody has been in the box ready for the tap in. I remember the home gome against hull last year where Lingard put an absolute peach of a cross into the box along the floor and nobody was there. I guarantee if we had Lukaku last year he would have been there.

He knows when to drop off and help link the attack, but when we've got them boxed in he's standing on the last man, and that's the important part.

Yeah, that's very good attribute to have. He always attacked the cross even though he couldn't reach few times.

Yeah, it's little details but it makes a huge difference. For every 4 you don't reach the 5th will drop to your feet. Eventually our wide men will get used to him making those runs and find him more and more.

I think that's also a reason why our crossing has been so poor/mistimed recently, when the winger gets the ball they look up and nobody is moving/showing where they want the ball. They would then hesitate and just dink it into the box. With Lukaku you know he's making a run straight into the front post ready to tap it in.

From what I've seen so far in the pre season games, if he keeps this up he's hitting 30 goals no problem.

that shot in the second half when he smashed it against the crossbar and post- it was like a curling piledriver

Have to say his shooting has been very impressive

where we need him to be sharp is against packed defences too as most of our games fit that description

Didn't get much service, so can't be too critical. Ultimately, he will be judged on goals, and to score goals, he will need service. As I said, he didn't get that tonight. We were really disappointing, and I can imagine Rom was pretty frustrated out there.

Yeah, can't really fault him today. But I'm a bit worried about this long-term, hope we do bring someone in who can help our chance-creation.

Don't think any of him, Mkhi or Pogba were bothered tonight at all. Pre season game is all it was but people will be overly critical no doubt.

I really felt sorry for him today, he got absolutely no service whatsoever. Why sign a big and tall number 9 and then not feed him anything? Jose really needs to be getting the squad to work on that. It also highlighted how Martial is much more of an inside forward than a winger, and kinda highlighted why we have been pursuing Perisic really. A player who will hang out wide and hammer in crosses. We're okay on the right flank with Valencia reliably doing that, but on the left the only service he had was one cross from Blind.
