That second half was so dire would have rather watched a training session on MUTV.

The powerful Everton centre-forward is one of European football's hottest young properties, and he's another who credits the Almighty whenever he finds the net (which he does, a lot). In interviews, he frequently namedrops God; when asked about who should be picked in the Belgium team he enigmatically replied: "every man for himself, and God for us all", while he recently appeared in a TV commercial in which he admitted to reading the Bible three times a day. (Unfortunately the context of that comment was somewhat mysogynistic, and made him the target of a Belgian Internet backlash...)

There are no doubt many more Christian players littered throughout the tournament's 24 squads (if you know of one, by all means let me know), and we'll profile them here in the coming weeks. For now though, since we don't believe God takes sides in football matches, let's all sit back and pray for a fantastic, peaceful festival of football where the talking points happen on the pitch.

Ffs... I bet that's Daily Mail.

Looks isolated and ineffective without service. Hope this isn't a sign of things to come in every match against a good team...

Nothing really that a striker like Lukaku can do if he's not provided with chances to convert.

Really need some wide men who can cross to provide him service

Yeah it's clear that without good service, he's not going to thrive. We need to bring in a player who can cross a ball.

Yeah he's done very little apart from that finish against city which was nice but that's about it. I'm obviously not writing him off but it looks to me like we haven't improved much yet at all.

Done very little? His hold up play was very good in every game he played.

Crosses into him need to be better. Could use someone like Perisic alongside a more dynamic LB.

I still think we need a bit more creativity through the middle too. If not miki or mata then someone else. Someone else who can play a cute final ball apart from pogba if he's going to be box to box.

Roonster- I've watched all the matches. He's not going to win us matches with moments of brilliance. He's not lacking in effort but he hasn't stood out for me at all. It's obviously very early doors though. I hope we sort out the service to him and don't leave him so isolated but in bigger games when you need moments of magic from your forwards to bail you out- im just not quite sure he's going to be that guy.

Nothing to worry about. Barca was well aware of his strength, therefore completely alienated him with their typically intensive pressing.

Nice powerful shot in the first half.

Always gonna struggle against the big team - Big Rom's not that good enough yet. Been brought to score goals against the cannon fodder teams and will judge accordingly

Blinds crossing was poor tonight and he gave the ball away and put us under pressure for a period and then again during the very next play for the goal. We had no threat on the left till martial came on and he was trying to come inside and shoot half the time. Definitely think the team needs a crosser but I also think it's more than that too and I can't really put my finger on it

He's had great returns with the likes of Aaron Lennon, Kevin Miralas and Yanick Bolasie supporting him so don't see why he can't improve on those returns with Martial, Mkhtaryan and Mata backing him up.

However listen to what of Everton supporters has said, at times he can go missing and have to be carried by the team but can then turn up and score from thirty yards. Perhaps it's not a complete issue of his service is lacking as he's blatantly going to have the best service he's ever had but the fact he needs to work alongside them and play on the same wave length and get in the right positions and contribute to more phases of play.

He will be a problem.in big games but really useful against teams who are bunkering.

He's shown signs of an early understanding with Rashford. Some good pieces of play between them.

There's no doubting that whatever happens it'll all improve one way or another but we are still lacking that bit of magic, composure and quality in the final third I think. Rashford Martial and Miki really need to find some good steady form from the off or we will be in trouble again this year if we want to actually challenge in the league.

I though he was very good. Lack of crosses and chances hurt him, nothing else.

I love how he tries to attack each cross even the dead ones.

I hope the people saying he needs service or crosses into the box are not the same people who don't want Perisic.

That's actually why I have been calling for Perisic or any out and out winger. Lukaku will never show 100% of what he has in a team without a proper width.

It seems people just see his size and assume he's a striker that likes a lot of crosses, he's not. Lukaku likes the ball to feet, in behind, or over the top for him to run into. As much as I still have my reservations over him, I think he'll benefit more than anymore if we sign a DM, Pogba playing so deep in midfield is such a travesty, I don't know what Mourinho is doing. Pogba should be further up the pitch, he's the only one with the passing range that can create the kind of chances Lukaku thrives on.

75m rising to 90m is pretty damn expensive for someone who's most effective against the weak teams though. :nervous:

He's Sergio Aguero trapped inside Benteke's body.

Hardly any creativity from our team against either Real or Barca and Lukaku struggled because of it. Rashford put in a good cross against Barca, so did Pogba. That was all the service he got all game. Good hold up and linkup play but Lukaku is a player that relies on service. Without better creativity he'll struggle to have the impact we need him to. His chances don't need to be crosses (though they'd help), they just have to be proper chances.

That's alright, I don't think we'll be playing Barcelona much next season.

No, but we still need a big improvement on our creative output from last season which was undeniably very poor

Creativity was fine, finishing was the problem. He only has one big job really - finish more of his chances than Ibra (and to be fair our other 'forwards') did last season.

Creativity wasn't always great tbh. We had some games where the best we could manage was a few 50% chances, if memory serves.

Maybe one or two, but overall it was good. If we'd had a more respectable goals:chances ratio we'd have done much better in the league last season.
