That second half was so dire would have rather watched a training session on MUTV.
He's a Christian ffs!
Is he, if not then the scum strikes again!!
Looks isolated and ineffective without service. Hope this isn't a sign of things to come in every match against a good team...
Yeah he's done very little apart from that finish against city which was nice but that's about it. I'm obviously not writing him off but it looks to me like we haven't improved much yet at all.
Yeah it's clear that without good service, he's not going to thrive. We need to bring in a player who can cross a ball.
Crosses into him need to be better. Could use someone like Perisic alongside a more dynamic LB.
I still think we need a bit more creativity through the middle too. If not miki or mata then someone else. Someone else who can play a cute final ball apart from pogba if he's going to be box to box.
Roonster- I've watched all the matches. He's not going to win us matches with moments of brilliance. He's not lacking in effort but he hasn't stood out for me at all. It's obviously very early doors though. I hope we sort out the service to him and don't leave him so isolated but in bigger games when you need moments of magic from your forwards to bail you out- im just not quite sure he's going to be that guy.
Tbh every world class striker would crumble under such non-existent crossing distribution. This guy's going to crumble under the immense pressure he's on.
He's had great returns with the likes of Aaron Lennon, Kevin Miralas and Yanick Bolasie supporting him so don't see why he can't improve on those returns with Martial, Mkhtaryan and Mata backing him up.
However listen to what of Everton supporters has said, at times he can go missing and have to be carried by the team but can then turn up and score from thirty yards. Perhaps it's not a complete issue of his service is lacking as he's blatantly going to have the best service he's ever had but the fact he needs to work alongside them and play on the same wave length and get in the right positions and contribute to more phases of play.
I hope the people saying he needs service or crosses into the box are not the same people who don't want Perisic.
75m rising to 90m is pretty damn expensive for someone who's most effective against the weak teams though.Always gonna struggle against the big team - Big Rom's not that good enough yet. Been brought to score goals against the cannon fodder teams and will judge accordingly
It seems people just see his size and assume he's a striker that likes a lot of crosses, he's not. Lukaku likes the ball to feet, in behind, or over the top for him to run into. As much as I still have my reservations over him, I think he'll benefit more than anymore if we sign a DM, Pogba playing so deep in midfield is such a travesty, I don't know what Mourinho is doing. Pogba should be further up the pitch, he's the only one with the passing range that can create the kind of chances Lukaku thrives on.
Hardly any creativity from our team against either Real or Barca and Lukaku struggled because of it. Rashford put in a good cross against Barca, so did Pogba. That was all the service he got all game. Good hold up and linkup play but Lukaku is a player that relies on service. Without better creativity he'll struggle to have the impact we need him to. His chances don't need to be crosses (though they'd help), they just have to be proper chances.
That's alright, I don't think we'll be playing Barcelona much next season.
No, but we still need a big improvement on our creative output from last season which was undeniably very poor
Creativity wasn't always great tbh. We had some games where the best we could manage was a few 50% chances, if memory serves.Creativity was fine, finishing was the problem. He only has one big job really - finish more of his chances than Ibra (and to be fair our other 'forwards') did last season.
