I don't get this. Rooney is United's record goal scorer.

That wasn't a post intended to bash Rooney but to point out that we said the same thing when Rooney was tearing up the league between the age of 20 to 24. As we know that didn't happen as we thought back then. And you could argue that Rooney and Lukaku share a similar career path so far in that they both started playing regularly at early age and that they rely heavily on their physique.

He is a top class finisher. I think many underrate him because he has not played for a big club. But this boy will score many for us.
You know he played for Chelsea, right?

He seems a lot better player than we gave him credit for whilst playing for Everton.
I know my problem is I would mostly only watch Everton when they played the big teams. It's obviously quite difficult to perform to such a high standard against the top teams - especially when you are your team's only threat.

I think they might be cut from a different cloth.

Lukaku is in superior physical condition to Rooney. I expect Lukaku will improve in his mid to late 20's, whereas Rooney declined.

The big difference seems to be Lukaku's motivation and desire. Ronaldo only started a year or two max after Rooney, but he is still going strong. Lukaku seems to have the motivation to not let his standards drop.

Also, I think him and Kane are going to have a significant rivalry going forward which may drive them both to continually improve.

Not from our main striker, we didn't.
Well he scored near 30 but we arguably still missed goals from him. He could've scored a lot more. I get your point though, and obviously I'm not expecting Lukaku to score more.

Massive disservice to Lukaku when people say he excels because of his physique. Yes that is a huge bonus. But look at the two goals he scored for us. Against Real Salt Lake, the goal showcased his calmness in front of goal. Today's goal highlighted his fabulous striking technique and a ridiculous instinct about where the goal was. He's more than decent on the ball and his link up play is affording a lot of space to Mkhitaryan and Rashford. So no, He might be a physical specimen, but he is so much more.

watching replay on MUTV

brilliant finish for his goal vrs City - took it very well and shows great imstinct

main conclusion for me is that if teams play with a high line against us we can punish them

also we can really hurt teams on the counter attack with his pace and power- his running seemed very intelligent

What a monster of a player. Not sure if it was me underrating him or that I've now got red tinted specs on, but I'm so glad we've got our new number 9. Scored a cracker and then rattled the bar with another. The best thing is we can now play a variety of different plays with him as our out and out striker.

Yeah, Lukaku is very powerful runner. He has scored goals against City and other teams carrying the ball from midfield or bit higher.

Mourinho needs to stop kissing his ass so hard. You can't be incredibly hard on some players and continue to praise Lukaku more than he deserves.
He's doing that because he has made the club spend lot of money for him. Like it or not, Lukaku's failure would be seen as Mourinho's failure. And strikers tend to be confidence players.

He's going to be a big success for us. I feel he's found the big stage he's always wanted and it's going to propel him to become a top top striker. His strength is immense, his hold up play better than Zlatan's and his movement to create space for others very intelligent. I'm bloody delighted we signed him. He's arrived and immediately fitted in. His big friendship with Pogba is going to reap big dividends for us.....that Pogba pass for his goal was sublime.

As you can see....I'm very pro lukaku and can't wait for him to prove a lot of people wrong.

I know powerful and beast is a cliche to describe him but wow just saw the highlights what a powerful beast of a player. If Rashford can continue this form, I think we are going to give opposition defensive partnerships a lot of head aches. That left shot was his weaker foot!?

It makes me laugh when people mention his first touch. Just completely blown out of proportion due to jealous rival fans.

Good finish today and very unlucky not to add a second. I love seeing how quickly we bring the ball forward with Mika, Rashford and Lukaku. Expecting a good goal scoring return this year!

Robbo kept saying his right side was his stronger side, but no, he's left footed. He's very good with his right foot as well though.

First touch was awful for the goal, ended up miles ahead of him he was lucky he could salvage it with an excellent finish.

This first touch thing is going to continue throughout the season isn't it?

Anyway, he took his goal very well, and I really wish the shot that hit the crossbar went in, it would have been a fantastic goal.

I was quite annoyed that they didn't show a replay of the dribble in the first few minutes which ended up in him putting one on a plate for Lingard. As well as the power and finishing he brings to the team, his stats show that he's very effective at beating his man and that was a great example of what he can offer as a creative force.

Sweet finish. Haven't felt confident about one of our #9s tucking that chance home since RvP in 2013. Even then, I'm not sure RvP would have beaten the goalie to the original ball.

Felt like a bit of throwback to some of the more accomplished #9/finishers from 10-20 years ago. A lot of 'forwards' now a days would have hit the side netting from that angle, or not got the right contact on ball and the defender would have cleared it.

He's exactly the striker we need. Someone who can force a goal with his strength and power if we dont find another way

Or not have even attempted to hit it first time. Which bodes well for the future. The one worry was that the massive fee might rattle his self-belief but that was the finish of a supremely confident striker. I could have sworn he was going to need another touch, then boom! Lovely stuff.

Dare I say it... Shocking first touch there from Lingard ;)

I love the man

Might just be preseason but he is going to be an absolute colossus for us I think. Strong, quick, composed, has a better touch than people credit him for and already looks to have a good rapport with team mates. Can't wait to see how he does this season :devil:

red tinted specs :O dont know how you can think his hold up play is better than zlatans

Certainly looking that way. The guy is just class. The rivals are all pretending he's shite but it actually looks like they know he's a damn good player and are running scared.
Don't think rivals think he's poor but don't think they're running scared either. Lukaku is very good PL striker who scores goals. So was Ibra. My genuine question is whether United are going to be too easy to frustrate like chunks of last season. Does Lukaku change things?

It was Giggsyesque!

He's taking chances excellently so far. I wouldn't get my hopes up and expect him to retain this level of clinical ability in the season, but if he does, oh boy...

Who gives a feck about his first touch, he made a very difficult finish look easy. Will score a sack load for us.

Lukaku will be a be an absolute beast for us. Who needs a first touch when you have his other abilities. Pure strength, and an excellent finisher.
