Robin Van Persie - Were you happy we sold Jaap Stam?

Fenerbache should consider getting Rooney to partner RVP on the bench

What happened to RVP and would you have preferred for RVP or Rooney to leave in the summer?

Apparently Arsenal scouted Fenerbache-Celtic, would he still be good enough to do a job?

Rooney had a better season than RVP last season, but he couldn't have complained if he'd also been shown the door.

Good enough for who? You? Almost certainly not.

Unbelievable the way he's sulking there. Must still be listening to the little boy inside of him.

Why is he being benched? Thought he's scored a few goals there and had a good start.

had a bust up with the manager and the other striker is in form . the manager is a nutter to . managed in qatar ?!? and had a breakdown live on a post match conference

Wow! I like him. Hilarious how the other guy tried and failed to control him

Already posted that video two or three times here. He's a nutter. The video where he confronts a whole stand of Panathinaikos ultras is pure madness.

If he tries that stunt in Turkey, something tragic might happen.

Christ that's pathetic from van persie. I know the feeling when you hate your place of work and can't wait to leave but a lot of us don't have much of a choice as we have mortgages/bills to pay etc so we suck it in and plough through. For what he's being payed he really is acting like a child. If I were the manager, I’d stick him in the reserves and let him rot. Prick

Knowing Vitor Pereira that might happen.

The man is fearless. Crazy shit

You've never really liked him have you?

Unless footballers are actually mentioning their pay, then it really shouldn't be used as an argument against them. Same for anyone.

He's scored a few goals but he's only played 90 minutes a couple of times and didn't play from start in their big game vs. Besiktas a few weeks back. When he plays I think he generally has to put up with playing out on the left in a 4-3-3 system rather than as the main man in a centre forward role.

And people wanted him to stay. :wenger:

As I remember people mostly wanted him basically to stay as a back up player that could come off the bench and play FA and League Cup. The vast majority knew he was no longer first choice standard and also wanted a new CF bought in to challenge Rooney should he fail to hit form.

I agree to a certain extent. He will retire with 35 being a millionaire so his destiny does not really move me to tears.

On the other hand as a top level athlete it must be frustrating to decline in such a fast way.

The decline wasnt that fast. After Fergie, it started, now nearly 2 and a half years. Sure he had some moments of brilliance inbetween, but he knows his body well, i am sure he knew already that he is declining years ago. He obviously wont admit it in front of the cameras, but he steadily got worse and worse, which lead to him being sold in the summer. Once you hit the 30 year mark, it can go fast, especially since he was more or less always injury prone, except for the last season at Arsenal and the first for us. It ddint help that Fergie retired and he was clearly affected by that too.

I genuinely want to know how you came to that conclusion? Not having a go, just curious is all as from my past posts I've never slated Van Persie as a player

I don't remember reading any of your posts or particularly any related to RVP, so its based solely on this single one, especially the way you ended it

Things look really grim for him over there. Still feel he could have been useful for us, just a shame he was on such high wages.

I may be just a sympathiser but I gotta feel for RVP.

I still think he's an immensely talented player but to get the best out of him, he has to be in and around the penalty box. Unfortunately, the way we play football under LVG and because of the Rooney effect, RVP was always going to go.
I think he wanted try something a bit different thinking he would go to Fernabache and get the same amount of adulation/main man syndrome as he did at Arsenal and at Utd under Fergie.

Annnnd you know what? I'm inclined to believe he should have 'rightly' felt that. Someone of his technical ability must have incredible self belief and whilst his body may have gave way, he still showed his on-the-ball quality during last season. I wanted to keep him because Rooney is/was turd and was clearly keeping RVP out of the team for no reason other than being Rooney i.e he wasn't given a fair chance imo.

To a degree you are right, but it always strikes me as extremely irritating for a young millionaire to complain about how unhappy he is when there is nothing in the world stopping him from saying feck it I've had enough, and riding off into the sunset to do whatever makes him happy. What most of us wouldn't give for that option

Yikes, those are some ugly videos. Really feel for RVP, as he can still add a touch of class when put in the right circumstances, but he's definitely gotten off the wrong foot with his coach. After being managed by the likes of SAF, Arsene, & LVG, he gets this cnutter. Definitely not one to coddle & nurture. Granted, RVP has fallen a lot from his prime, but it doesn't seem the coach is making any steps to get the best out of him.

And then he has a bust-up with Memphis while on international duty. Yikes. Oh, to be a fly on the wall for that one.

It's hard to have any sympathy with him tbh. That's a shitty, unprofessional attitude. Does make you wonder how much of his steep decline after Fergie left was down to his nose being put out of joint by thinking he signed for United under false pretences. I do have some sympathy with him over that fwiw but not if he responds by fecking up his own career. That's just daft.

But isn't it football that makes them happy?
He's not unhappy with his job as a footballer, he's unhappy with his situation at his particular club. Unfortunately for him, he's contracted to them, so he can't just say 'feck it' (maybe I'm wrong and he can?)

And in terms of doing what makes him happy, I'm sure he'd love to move to Bayern or Barcelona tomorrow, and walk straight into the first team... but it's out of his hands.

And when I compare his unhappiness to say, a refugee who has lost everything and has no idea what he is going to do, or a skint single parent at their wits end as Christmas approaches wondering how they are going to get their nipper the one thing they really want I find it hard to give a shit in all honesty.

I don't get it, why isn't he starting?

From what I see it's a row with his manager, otherwise it doesn't make much sense.

agreed, he is still raking in £ for his status and he is being a sulky twat
