Robin Van Persie - Were you happy we sold Jaap Stam?

MUTV had a thing where they played all his united goals... feels too soon. I suppose we'll see before long if the club was right but I don't like it.

LVG really done a number on him. Who would have thought this a year ago?

Btw in that article, it says RVP run more per match than ever. People called him lazy in here, perception and reality are never the same.

Can someone link that interview in another way, those screenshots are all over the place I'm not sure what order im meant to be reading them in

Each of the three tweets has three pages so you just need to click the right hand side arrow on each one and you'll be able to read it all.

31, injury prone and on massive wages. We got a decent 18 months out of him (given injuries etc), he got a massive payday a league medal, and to work with Fergie.

He's been a top pro throughout his time here and in his prime he showed moments of genius, but that's football. From the manager, and the clubs, point of view this season is pivotal. If we don't progress, or go backwards, then LvG will be in a very tight position going into the final year of his contract, if he made it that far, and the last thing the club needs is to be even having to contemplate is another change in manager, prolonging the instability following Fergies retirement.

Hence the investment, and with that level of investment there isn't room for luxury players like Falcao or RvP eating up massive chunks of our wage budget.

By the same token, when was the last time a player in their 30s took a pay cut to sign a contract extension??

I think LVG missed a trick by not having Robin as his captain, and lieutenant on the field.

Id imagine Bergkamp must have took a paycut, Giggs too. Basically anyone who was at a club in their late 20s and stayed to their late 30s - a rare occurance itself.

Similar to the Valdes scenario, LVG doesn't come off well here as a leader.

I don't think LvG has the license to give players time and prove themselves. LvG, himself, had one season to settle, and now he has to deliver. RvP, Falcao, and some others had a season to prove their worth, and they failed... It's a shame but our current predicament has forced our hand.

Regardless of whether one thinks van Persie doesn't have enough left in the tank, in terms of leadership, van Gaal hasn't done a good job in his case. From the injury problems to not giving him a proper chance to win his place back, to not communicating well, there were plenty of opportunities to do better, despite the pressure van Gaal faced. I think the Falcao transfer killed him in this regard, as he was forced to give both Falcao and van Persie their fair chances, on top of having Rooney in there as well.

I think LvG would have loved to give RvP some game time, this season. I, too, think RvP isn't past, but I think LvG has to think about his future, first.. and that is to guide them to trophies.

Yeah, I get the feeling that LVG would very much like to continue here after his three years are up; but that depends on success the club demands, so he's having to be 'impatient' with players.

It's crazy to think that van Persie has gone from being the 30 goal main man under Ferguson to the point where Rooney would have been sold had he stayed on, to having Rooney kept around by Moyes and later being offered a massive new contract, to then not being made captain by van Gaal and lastly to sitting on the bench 1-0 down at Stamford Bridge and being told to train on the 'surplus to requirements' pitch.

Seems like either way, this is his last club, so has to/wants to make the most of it.

It's funny because all three of those apply to our brand new marquee signing.

Who knows, maybe having won the league and with a manager he thought was a mate coming in, maybe Robin took his foot off the gas a little in training.

Just mad how quick things change. I mean, this time last year, everyone was talking about how RVP was going to be made captain and be the main man for United, especially playing under Van Gaal, but he just couldn't replicate the kind of performances we saw in his first season here, which was great, to say the least, and was pivotal to us winning the EPL.

The man is a class act. Yes it was time to leave, but it won't be forgotten how good he was during that last title winning campaign. I think I'll miss his interviews and enthusiasm the most. Always liked hearing him speak.

Shame, If it was Fergie he could squeeze few more year out of RvP.
Class act from RvP. I wish him the best

Just gave an interview. Hints of not being given enough chances to get back his form post injury. To be fair to him, I slightly agree but it was very difficult to try and give chances to a non-performing player when the club was fighting on all fronts to secure CL football for this season.

Not enough chances? Last season 99% of this forum called him 'van Gaals favorite' because he always played when he was able to play. He got enough chances and in most of his games last year he looked very slow, his finishing wasnt world class anymore and every time the camera's zoomed in on him he was blowing snot out of his nose.

He got enough chances and it just looked like he wasnt fit and not good enough anymore.

How can you not be sure? The tweets say "part X/3" and you read the screenshots in the order they're listed.

Van Persie's a declining star who has often talked about how he expects to be playing at the top level in his late 30's. It's difficult for many players to accept their own decline and he didn't look as quick and agile as he used to. Van Gaal will have seen enough of the 2015 model Robin to evaluate him, it wasn't about being given a chance. LVG doesn't sugar coat things and I'm sure it rubs some people the wrong way, but that's exactly the kind of strong personality we've needed to rebuild our squad and steer the ship in the right direction.

All this is reminiscent of Gerrard.

And this.

RvP performance last season was frustrating and blew off many great goal opportunities. I think it is pretty fair LVG decided to let him go especially with his big salary. Personally would like RvP to be given one more season due to sentiment reason but unfortunately I don't think LVG can afford that right now.

I wish RVp all the best and will always remember him fondly especially his first season with us.
