Robin Van Persie - Were you happy we sold Jaap Stam?

Probably the biggest casualty of Fergie leaving. Shame about the injuries, he looked like such a perfect fit in the United shirt. Glad he's getting a hero's welcome at Fenebahce

There are days I still can't believe we managed to sign rvp from arsenal.

I wasn't on the caf then but I remember Twitter calling him a flop after our Everton loss. He then came back in some style. Some of his goals in 12/13 were pure arrogance like his first goal, the right footed curler vs Wigan, the Aston villa volley. It was impossible to shoot that perfectly yet he did that over an entire season more or less. He linked up with Rooney like they were long lost brothers. The 2 goals vs braga (I think) where rvp telepathically linked up with wazza was pure class. Not to mention the Aston villa game again. The last minute winner vs city was probably the icing on the cake.

I haven't loved another striker as much as I loved watching van persie play that season. Pure Elegance and pace. He repeated that to a very small extent in 13/14 in the season opener vs Swansea and even vs olympiakos. Unfortunately SAF leaving hit him hard and we never got to see him again at his imperious best.

It's really sad to see him go. A class striker the likes we may never see again. He started our return with 'we will be back you can be sure about it'. He really loved the club even though he played here only for 3 years. I hope he gets back to his best and leads Holland into the euros and get them forward

I think he's worthy of a lot of the criticism he got. For me he completely downed tools under Moyes.

Genuine apparently. The full quote is longer and very praising of Woodward.
That's interesting. The reason I asked was cuz previously he he'd apparently chucked Rio out in a distasteful manner.

Anyways, can you post the full quotes please? Has he said anything about LvG?

I haven't heard about that. What went on?

There was something about Woodward telling him he would be leaving the club in front of the players in the dressing room after we played Southampton last year. Not sure if it was ever confirmed though.

He scored an outrageous amount of quality goals in 12/13.

Robin is always genuine and personal. I like that, he says it how it is. Also thanking Woodward, you rarely see that. I will miss him, on and off the pitch. He is an absolute class act. All the best Robin

Still nothing from us? Strange

The goodbye from RVP and United does seem a little dry. Doesn't thank LVG. Then the players, the day Falcao left the players couldn't stop posting goodbyes. Other then Young and Blind it's been very quiet.

Yeah Rio confirmed it. Ed telling him he would be leaving in the dressing room after some game or other (which I think we may have lost!). However, it was also confirmed (think by Rio?) that it was subsequently realised that it was not the right way to handle things and Rio accepted that and was fine. After that the presentation was made to him at OT before the game against QPR.
Basically what I took from that was Ed probably ended up apologising and Rio was cool with that.

I've also heard that Ed supposedly treats his staff very well.

He was great in his first season but he's spent the two after that mostly moping about the pitch with the odd good performance thrown in. I'm guessing he'd have been one of the top paid players at the club and that's just nowhere near good enough to justify that. Think he's one player who can't complain Van Gaal didn't give the chance to prove themselves either. He was given extraordinary leeway considering how easily others were dropped...though baffled we've let him leave before getting a replacement, and to a club we might end up playing in a hugely important game in about a month's time.

We do keep doing what appear to be incredibly stupid things.

It was a 1-1 draw at Saint Mary's when Giggs was the manager. Lambert scored for them and Mata for us with a free kick. Rio, Vidic and Evra made their final appearances.

I loved how my mum, who barely watches any football, sat down & watched a Utd match with us during his first season, saw RvP score a world class goal & stated that we hadn't had that level of arrogance in a striker since Cantona.

Well worth the money for no. 20
Good luck to him, wouldn't be surprised if he moves onto Italy or Spain in a year. Too good for the Turkish league.

He was mind blowing. As others have said, best season I've seen from a United player since the Ronaldo days.

What about CR7?

Great first season, but a patchy two since. Nice guy, but the right move for everyone.

Where the hell is the statement from United's press department?

Oh... I thought you meant RVP had slagged Ferdinand off. Stupid me. I didn't read properly.

We do keep doing what appear to be incredibly stupid things.

Getting his wages off the books and for a reasonable fee, with a year left on his contract is not - by any definition - incredibly stupid. It's actually a decent bit of business. As you point out he was given enough chances and just didn't cut it. Refusing to sell surplus players to clubs we have a slim chance of drawing in a CL qualifier really would be incredibly stupid.

You don't not sell a player who is on 200k + per week because there is a 1/16 chance we end up playing the new team in an upcoming match.

We no longer required his services and we told him that. No point hanging around and wasting the time of a player who is no longer wanted. We've done the right thing and to call it stupid is unbelievably, typically harsh.

I really don't like the fact that we haven't announced it. Seems a bit disrespectful to me..

I still recall how Moyes got all prepared to go for work one morning and got the news from the press he's being sacked and he made various phone calls/texts to Woody who failed to return calls/text. Then he's formally informed when they met at the club. That's what I recalled what Moyes said happened. Could be just him being bitter and blaimg others when he refused to accept what's the inevitable.

p.s. I also noticed RvP has mentioned the board and players but hadn't mentioned LvG

why should he mention LvG? He hasnt done anything in his career. He gave him the chop and let him train on his own the last week. Thanks for kicking me out
