Riyad Mahrez | Staying at Leicester

He missed his chance to get a big move. He needs another top season to be considered by the big clubs again but last seasons poor form will be a black mark. He'll probably do quite well in Spain though.

Good enough for a club whose aspiration lies in reaching Europe, but not actually achieving something in it or competing for the league.

In a recent extended interview on Sky Mahrez said he preferred a London club. I can't remember which but it was one of Arsenal or Chelsea.

Nah he's just that level below what we should be aiming at. Arsenal/Liverpool type signing.

He's pretty average imo. Vardy looked like a world beater the season they won it, which says it all.

Wasn't he one of the best players, if not the best, for a league winning side :wenger:

Yeah but that was a once in a lifetime event, and even towards the end of that season he became inconsistent with his performances.

I think he wouldn't improve us much but more crucially I'd question his mentality personally. Mourinho has said he wants players to run through a wall for him & the team, I don't think Mahrez is that.

Think he will got to Monaco as Silva's replacement TBH.

Not the biggest fan of players who publicly state they want to leave a club they are contracted to.

I have seen that rumor in the past two weeks but I don't believe it, his wage is too big and Leicester will demand too much.

Seems like the type of player come November he'll be on the bench and Mourinho will be burying him in press conferences because he's coasting. He's more suited for a club where standards are much lower.

Would prefer to see all of the players who downed tools against Ranieri to never move to top clubs.

He's not the right profile for Monaco.

Arsenal or Liverpool if the latter don't get Balde Keita.

he was inconsistent the entire season but he had a spell from November to about Late Feb mid March where he was really special, remember when all the voting is done

Think so too. Monaco's project is built around building up young stars and then selling them for a profit. Mahrez will easily cost 3/4 of Silva's fee and his price is only likely to dip as he gets older, rather than increase. That's not a profitable investment for ASM.

I reckon Arsenal bound to play on the right where Walcott has failed to shine.

Makes sense.
It seems like he wants to play for a team that's consistently in Europe, but aren't expected to win and therefore there's less expected of him each week.
Monaco/Lyon etc.

If they really rate him, they could do it and it wouldn't be with the idea of selling him but supporting the younger players. But is that something that wll interest him? I don't think so.

This type of move might be possible next year, if Lille, Marseille and Lyon are serious about their ambitions then not only Monaco will have to up their game but players will be attracted by a competitive league but today I don't see it

Started the season on fire too.
yes and was dropped after we lost 5-2 to Arsenal, like I said he was inconsistent the whole time, the talent is there to be a top player but I'm not sure the mentality is.
He isn't consistent enough or work hard enough for United, City, Chelsea or Spurs IMO

I don't want him here, He looked completely disinterested most of this season.

He is a decent player but he's definitely NOT a Mourinho player so I dont expect us to move on him.

He's got Arsenal written all over him.

That's what i think.

Mahrez the star signing, ligue 1 player in the chamakh or even cygan mould, loan plauer back which is like a new signing ( wilshere or chambers) and young english player like sesseignon from fulham. Wenger new two year contract.

He showed last season that he can be consistent, I think the problem is that he appears to be a-bit half arsed when the chips are down.

Which is an obvious problem, but one that the current title winners have put up with and benefited from.

Yes, he was. Mahrez and Leicester winning the title was seen as the most remarkable event in English football history for good reason, however, and we shouldn't diminish that in hindsight. Mahrez was great that season, but I'm not sure anything before or since has suggested he's capable of producing a high level of output consistently. He doesn't seem to have the attitude for a start.

I'm a believer in signing players that you believe will improve your first XI and signing squad players only will make you worse over time.
