Riyad Mahrez | Staying at Leicester

He's a very Fergie-like signing. We used to build title winning sides on a combination of youth (Rashford/Lingard/Pogba), proven effective premier league players who are waiting for the step up (Lukaku/Mahrez), and the ocassional overseas marquee signing (Mikhitaryan/Pogba here too).

I think Mahrez would be perfect for us, for all those saying hes lazy; Ozil was once the best playmaker in the world for Mourinho. I don't think Mourinho would even play him if he didn't think he'd be getting exactly what he wanted from him.

Can people calling him lazy back it up with some stats? Genuinely interested.

If we could sign the player that performed as Leicester won the league, then sensational, what an outstanding talent.
In all honesty, I can't see why Mahrez would not produce playing for Mourinho, at United, and in the Champions League.

My reservation would be that although he likes playing on the right, he often cuts inside onto his left, so is he going to be driving into congestion?

Not really, he can go down the line easily also. Look at how he played against us in the last game, a few times he dummied to cut inside and did a fake shot then rolled the ball to the right. He then put in a dangerous ball across the middle.

If he does come inside though his passing/1 touch play is more than good enough to match the others, he's actually a decent playmaker also.

We definitely lack some oomph down our right flank.. He's perfect unless we are aiming for bigger fish

Is there any credible source linking him to us ? I would be happy if we manage to get him, but we seem to be done this transfer window. Kind of hard to believe, given that we always seem to be linked with every single player on the planet, but these last couple of days, are linked with no one.

Why are we still discussing this? We are not signing him guys. Our business is done for this window.

Not going to happen is clearly not a Jose player either and I'm struggling to understand how anyone thinks he is. Downed tools last season and just didn't do enough to be at a club like United

Why do people keep repeating this bollocks? If he downed tools well so did the entire Leicester, which is rubbish. You would have to belive that every Leicester player suddenly turned into pre-maddonas.

Also in a summer where players who want a move have refused to train or play, Sanchez, Costa, VVD, Dembele, Countinho etc, Mahrez made it clear he wants to leave, but has continued to train and play, and made 3 of Leicesters 5 goals to boot.

He did the honorable thing by sticking with Leicester after their title year, and he's acted with perfect integrity this summer

Every single one of you feckers who say Mahrez is lazy and downed tools would celebrate like crazy if we signed Sanchez

Agree with this. Could have jumped ship whilst his stock was high. He's a talented footballer and I think would be a good signing for us. I suspect Jose already identified who he wants for that position and is prepared to wait till next year for it to happen.

People love to jump on the band wagon. He is the type of player we should be looking at if Bale and others are not available. The amount of creativity Mahrez provides would leave our strikers licking their lips. Sick and tired of playing with 10 men every game as we get nothing from the right wide forward position.

Isn't that just because Sanchez is better than him though?

So? Sanchez has been on strike this summer, complete disrespect shown to his club, manager and fans. I am pointing out the hypocrisy if some fans who will want him but not Mahrez who is guilty of no such behaviour

Mahrez is not just a counter attacking player in fairness. In fact, what I really like about is that he doesn't really need space to go past players. Seems to be one those players who's great at beating players from a standing position.
Yeah I would agree. He's not even that quick. He's on the slower side if anything. His dribbling and creativity would be his main asset if we signed him.

Just a little video+article insight on Mahrez's effectiveness on both ends of the pitch / ability to counter attack and burn oppositions on the transition. Don't get where this notion came from it's not a critical element to his game which makes him so successful but here it is anyways :) :

...have a feeling he won't be joining United unless some breaking reporting says so otherwise all of sudden. Or it's possible it's a case of Lukaku where it's just kept quiet until the very moment the move is close to being struck. Such a perfect scenario for both player and club if an agreement were to be reached. I'll definitely be one sad camper if it doesn't happen. Seems like such a logical fit for both parties.

It's striking that he went on strike, came back, had one training session and walked into the 1st eleven. It kind of shows the power that AW has over players, which is kind of nonexistent atm.

Chelsea or Arsenal fits the bill for him.

Chelsea are interested in Mahrez but supposedly aren't willing to pay the £50M transfer fee Leicester is asking for. At this point all it is, is about a team willing to pony up and pay the price.

...wouldn't it be something if United came in and swooped him away just as they did to Lukaku

Why are we ignoring our wing and balance problem is beyond me.

Manchester United: Jose Mourinho Makes Late Swoop for Rival’s Star Player

Newsweek August 30, 2017

Manchester United has registered an interest in signing Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City with little over 24 hours remaining of the summer transfer window, according to reports. The Independent

Mahrez is keen to leave the King Power Stadium this summer but Leicester is yet to receive an offer that it feels is worth selling the Algerian forward. Roma was interested in signing him, but failed to reach the £50 million valuation Leicester has for Mahrez.

Any truth behind this yahoo article?

Surely he is a talented player and could easily give us more good options on the right flank, why Jose don't want him? Or is Ed the problem? As he refused to pay Inter the 50m they wanted for Persic so he won't do it for Mehrez too!!

There is a difference between being lazy and being a lightweight. He is not lazy.

The meltdown from Caftards should be amusing if he goes to Barca and tears it up :)

Super talented players can become lazy when they stop caring. That often happens when their team's chance of success goes out the window, or when they realise there are no consequences to them not trying their hardest.

When Leicester went on their title charge, Mahrez was incredible because he was constantly motivated to be. Last season, he lost that motivation but knew that he would always be in the team (when fit) regardless.

There are clearly two different Mahrez's, and United need to be sure we're getting the world class one. But here's the rub... all the things that motivated him two years ago will be here at Old Trafford in abundance. And all the pitfalls he's fallen into since will be pointed out to him at every turn. If he doesn't perform, he'll be out on his arse. Mourinho doesn't mess about.

I'm confident that if we sign him, he'll raise his level to be one of the best players in Europe again. Though if he went to almost any other club, he'd revert to being inconsistent. I think I've seen enough evidence to believe that (though obviously not everyone would be convinced).

...only a matter of time before we see where he ends up going. Move looks inevitable to one team or another at this point.

This has a United feel to it. A transfer window with lots of movement of big names and we pick out a stable Premiership investment.

The money has to be right. Would be shocking if we spent anything even close to £50m on him if Sanchez is in a similar ball park.

This said Mahrez is 26.5 so a very good age.

This could be an interesting buy.

...change ur fecking minds like you did with Lukaku. Will not regret the decision.

ANNOUNCE MAHREZ! ;)
