Rio Ferdinand Saga. (RIO ASKS FOR TRANSFER)

He's a shit, Risdale. The whole 'front' he has put on throughout this saga is ridiculous. He's trying to save himself from the fans, when in fact, he's doing a good job of cocking it all up.

he can't win from that point of view..it doesn't matter how much he gets they'll still be losing their star player...which means fans will be vexed... in the end he's just shifting blame on Rio...but most observers will feel he's as much interested in selling Rio..as we are in purchasing him...

As has been said: "It's all about the money at the end of the day"

ofcourse it is....but thats more to do with the fact that they're in debt..and desperately need the moneys to finance a new stadium!

How are they gonna fill it after all this?

feck knows.... but i think they'll have more exec boxes..so it will have the potential to bring in more revenue.. however the capacity will be only 55k..thats around 10k more than Elland Road.

I wonder how many season tickets they've sold for this season?

Pigsdale has been a good one for spouting off full stop hasn't he? So was O'Leary. Couple of mouthy bastards getting their cumuppence (how the feck do you spell that?) if you ask me. And then there's the mouthy flock too. Good little story if you ask me, very enjoyable.

There is no way Leeds can offload Bowyer and Dacourt, replace them with players of comparable quality AND net 15mil to appease the bankers. If they get 20mil for the two players, how will they replace them for 5mil? They can't and they won't. The only solution, when all of the posturing and arse covering is done, is to sell Rio.

Ridsdale would absolutely shit himself if United walked away from this deal.

Exactly..pair of cnuts who deserve all they get

I believe we at Liverpool FC should be given great credit for our role in the demise of Leeds PLC..

The Fowler deal. Yes, that was quite clever.

Indeed...

And we thrashed them 4-0 in their own backyard...which probably has had no lasting effect on their decline

Just thought I'd mention it anyway

The Saga continues....Slowly but surely Ridsale is having to face facts, Rio wants to play for Man Utd and there is nothing much Ridsale can d.

Ridsale: "If we receive any reasonable offers for any of our players, including Rio, we will consider it and debate it but that is not the position at the moment.

Fergie Latest: Speaking on MUTV - "Leeds are saying a lot of things which we have to take on board. We're running out of time so we have to do something quickly. Maybe we will have to move on somewhere."

I love fergies little games of words.... <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted he will soon be forced to turn his attentions elsewhere if he cannot prise Rio Ferdinand away from Elland Road.

Manchester United have already failed with a £20 million bid for the Leeds captain, althogh the Yorkshire club maintain the 23-year-old is not for sale after rejecting the England defender's written transfer request on Wednesday.

The Manchester United manager said on MUTV: "It's ongoing. Nothing seems to be happening.

"Leeds are saying a lot of things which we have to take on board. We're running out of time so we have to do something quickly. Maybe we will have to move on somewhere."

However Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale would appear to have left the door open for a fresh United offer when he said as a plc, the Elland Road board would be duty-bound to consider a substantial bid for Ferdinand.

Ridsdale said: "We are a public company, I am merely an employee and I have a duty to shareholders to maximise the value of our assets.

"If we receive any reasonable offers for any of our players, including Rio, we will consider it and debate it but that is not the position at the moment.

United have not been in contact with Leeds since Ridsdale rejected Reds chief executive Peter Kenyon's offer - believed to be around the £20m mark - some weeks ago.

The Leeds chairman is cutting short a holiday and heading back to Yorkshire for showdown talks with Ferdinand on Thursday.

Alessandro Nesta, Roberto Ayala and Lilian Thuram are just three of the names that have been linked with a move to Old Trafford over the summer - and who may be receiving a follow-up call if there is no breakthrough in trans-Pennine negotiations.

Fergie is man, The king of using the media
Mister Ridsdale will realise that he will not get £35 million and we will get him for 27M

Thats my 100 posts up !!!!!

I am a bit of a lurker and not much of a poster but getting in to it... :) :) :)

Yes, he's squeezing our bollocks for every penny he can get.

Rio Ferdinand will be a United player before the week is out IMO. <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

Why shouldn't Leeds squeeze any club that wants Rio as he's an aquisition they paid highly for at the time and made their captain?

I can understand Rio wanting t move on but I thought being the captain of a club meant something to players. Rio is the first instance of a player that is captain asking for a transfer that I can remember...and that's really made him look an asshole any way you look at it.

The bigger problem is that the Leeds fan are lied to the whole way through. They've been lied to about the new stadium (the ballot was defintely fixed by Ridsdale..the fans don't want a new stadium), they were lied to by Ridsdale about Bowyer staying when it was obvious that they knew of Liverpool's interest and they knew Bowyer would reject a new contract, and they were lied to by Ridsdale about not wanting to sell Rio. OK, Rio's done the dirty and asked for the transfer but PR seems quite happy to sell him now.

Leeds can't keep Rio as no fan wants to see a player who's agent has said he wants to play for better club turning out for them every week. Especially not as captain.

I would think t hillarious though if Rio does get caught in limbo with making the transfer request but Leeds stuff him up that much that Man Utd buy someone else. Everyone says Leeds need the money but they were quite happy to hold onto Rio and sell elsewhere. The squad is top heavy in strikers and that needs to be adressed whether Rio goes or not. Leeds do not HAVE to sell to Man Utd so Rio just mind find that Leeds hold on to him longer and sell him abroad. Now that, that would be very funny. Can't see it happening but it might.

Who else in the World are gonna pay you 30m for Rio Ferdinand? Guess you can resort to hoping that Real Madrid somehow change their mind and enter the bidding.

Face it, if Real don't move, United are the only club who can afford the deal.

 elmo,elmo,elmo.....I do wonder myself what is the point of contracts if they can be broken so easily but in reality football is like any other job and Rio is like any other employee. If, in your chosen occupation, someone offered you a chance to double your salary and to work for the most famous business in the world you would jump at it...I know I would.

I must laugh at everyone having a go at Ridsdale though - he was the only one to take a chance on Rio and spend a massive ammount on him and now he has the chance, if he wishes, to make a bundle of profit. Yes, we will lose one of the best CB's but no way in hell is Rio worth £25m+ - if we get that much for him and replace him with another CB for say £12m I think it will be good business.

Just picking up on your point elmo about the new ground - I have been a fan for 30+ years and can't wait to get a new ground. The ballot may have been rigged but if only in commercial terms we must have it...nothing will take my ER memories away from me...but we have to move to improve - On your next trip to Leeds I will give you a guided tour ;)

As I have told you before elmo..we support Leeds United Football Club not Rio Ferdinand or Lee Bowyer or even Peter Ridsdale.

Christ, I remember a chairman called Manny Cousins....least said the better ;)

Marching, we're laughing at Pigsdale because he's made himself look an arse. Simple. I read some hilarious posts (hilarious to me) by sheep on tehir own site slating Pigsdale for turning your club into a laughing stock. 7m profit is nice, but it's not all that when your team is falling apart and your supporters turning against you.

Rio won't ask for transfer if he doesn't sure that we are going to bid for him. So I'm sure our bid will come very soon. I think (I hope) we can secure the deal for around 28m-30m finally.

How about negotiating? Sounds a whole lot better than squeezing. At least that way you don't have to contradict your own words every two hours!

What exactly has PR said that makes him look such a fool? He has said all along that Rio is a contracted player to Leeds..FACT. He does not want to or have to sell him..FACT. He has had an offer that has been turned down...FACT.

Some more words from Rio and his agent.....

"He loves Leeds and he loves the fans, but he feels he will have a chance to play at a bigger club where he will be able to play Champions League football.

"We shall now wait and see what happens and whether or not Leeds accept the request. If not, Rio will stay at the club.

"If they say no, then he will stay. He is a loyal soldier. But I must reiterate that he is very happy at Leeds. He is not unhappy and he feels at home. If Leeds say he cannot go then he will honour the contract."

PR can't have been fairer Dans and IF Rio does go he will have got a good price for him - no way is Rio worth 25m+.

Ferdinand is just covering his arse in case no move occurs..

Risdale has repeatedly stated that Ferdinand is going nowhere...ever since the WC speculation started..

Now he's gone down the "at the end of the day its not just up to me" road

So why was he so "confident" in his earlier words of denial..

He's a media loving twat and I'm thankful I haven't got such an embarrassment at the head of my club

PR obviously wasn't going to come out and say "Rio can go if a big offer comes in" he was going to play hardball to show that if anyone wanted the player they would have to pay a hefty price.

He has always said "if it was up to him Rio was going nowhere" - it is common knowledge that a board of directors make the decision in the end.

I agree about the media loving bit.....overall I am pleased he is there though as the twats before him were worse ;)

Real got no money we are the only club that seems to afford to buy a star for 30 million..

I'm sorry Marching..I still support Leeds as a club but it might have been easier if I'd just decided to put red hot pokers through my eyes...more or less I'm left with that feeling.

We can sell Rio to Man Utd but what does it say about our club?

More importantly what does it say about our club when the captain has no hesitation in wanting out as soon as possible. Rio can't be that vacuous and mean hearted can he? OK, yes...but there has to be more to it than that.

So what was the point of him saying Rio would stay..when its not his decision?

You quoted his words as "evidence" that he would stay on here..why did you do that if you felt his words were meaningless?

What a shambles...Leeds are a laughing stock
