How can we hope do get this moving if we have not placed a bid? Something is starting to smell about this one and yet again the fans are left wondering what the hell to think!
Come on United have we placed a bid or not or is this just an attempt to make it look like we are attempting to spend money when the club is not willing to do so.

Is it? I'm not so sure. Leeds aren't desperate to sell, especially because Rio is behaving so nicely about all this (even though, admittedly, it'll be hard for him to stay now...), while we are deep into July without new signings and we can really use the time until the new season to intergrate a new defender into the lineup.
Time is on no one's side here. We got away with it when we signed Yorke AFTER the season started in 1998, not so sure it can be as easy with a defender.

No!
I think this one is over, If Rio gets on the Leeds plane Saturday for there far east per-season run around I think it is all over, and so it could be for our season as well!

Well, we'll just have to wait and see won't we? Most of us here haven't really got friends in CARRINGTON now have we?

I'd have to disagree. We will get someone. Rio is not our only key to success, there are other alternatives.

OK!
SAF has said that Rio is our number one target so why not spend the £35m and get the best, or should we go for second best?
Or is this all a show to keep the share price as high as possible?

I bet Inter fans thought they would beat Helsingborg a couple of seasons ago
Not that I except Man Utd to fail in qualifying though.

All of the TV reports today have stated that £30m + is what would be required. I think we have £35m don't you? we have just signed a new contract with Nike worth 300m and that's only a part of our income!

we have managed fine with Rio ferdinand , so why is our season over before it starts if we don't get him ?????
Rio ferdinand will be an excellent Signing but if he doesn't come then we will find someone else , Only dumb people think that just cos he signs it means WE Already won Everything , it happened when we signed Veron and RVN.
We do need Rio's quality but there are many out there who IMO are as good. I think anything above 25mln is way too much for him, it doesn't gurantee success. I think we should definetly buy 2 defenders, throwing money at one doesn't solve the problem , WHAT if he gets injured ????.

Precisely. Ferdinand will on a plane on club tour duty this Saturday if Fergie and Risdale don't agree a fee by Friday night. We surely can't afford to wait for Ferdinand to come back from his club tour and stall all our other targets in the meantime.

If nothing is agreed by then, I would not be surprised if Rio refuses to get on the plane and Risdale holds a press conference on Monday saying Rio is going nowhere.
Tosser.

That's so true. People (not all of you) also seem to think that Rio is the absolutely best available centre back. He's been playing in Premiership, that's a great advantage that most of your targets don't have but I suppose top players will adapt soon, no matter where they come from.
And even if you get Rio, it takes time to gel, especially in defence where mistakes aren't allowed. The earlier you get your man, whoever he is, the better.

We shouldn't allow the poor lad to be backed into a corner like this. What if we DON'T actually manage to agree a fee and he's forced to stay there?
We don't HAVE to agree a fee by tonight but we have to get the ball rolling enough for Leeds to keep him in England.

Fair enough. I do actually believe we should have 35m or we'd never take this Rio thing so far, as we could end up with a huge egg on our face (biggest club in the world get everything right... except they can't pay the fee). I just don't like to make 'money statements' according to reports because you never know how accurate they are.
As for Nike, I doubt we get all 300m in one year! So it's around 23m a year or so, but you also have to consider it is'nt a 'whole new 23m profit', but an extra gain over what Umbro used to pay us (whatever figure that was!).

I saw that too, it's funny how those sheeps think that there is a huge queue of top European clubs trying to sign Rio.
Real, I don't really know, but do they really think Inter (or Juve) are gonna pay them 30m+ for Rio when they couldn't afford Nesta for less??

Yes I know that the 300m is not all available today but I still fell that considering who we are we should be able to spend that kind of money to get what the club themselves clearly know we need. I think it could be a bigger problem that no one has yet purchased the players we would like to get shot of. The PLC are getting the wind because they can see us stuck with assets that no one will take, this is what SAF is talking about when he says the market is dead, yet at the same time the CExec is making big statments about our finance power in the market place.
I cannot understand the comment about doing OK with out Rio, why do we need him? have you been asleep for a year, we have no silver in the trophie room! we finished in third for the first time in 10years, we let in goals all over the place, we let stam go, WE NEED THE BEST IN THE WORLD, RIO!

Yep, thats the different between the PLC and us, the manager and the fans. We want plays to come and stay for years and years, we don't see them as assets who we have to think of their later sales, like they're a car or something.

Yep! totally agree, we have informed players that they can look else where, yet they could end up playing for us again in August, will they be committed?, did we judge the state of the current market correctly?, if we can not who can?
Anyway we will have to wait an see what takes place today. 24 hours for the club to show there true placing in the Market, is the Cexec full of words and nothing else, time to play your hand PK!

Do you think they can afford any single player cost more than 20m? Either he joins us or he stays in Leeds. And even if he stays in Leeds it's not the end of the world. He is not the only world class defender and he is not even the best defender in the world. There are other opinions available and we can even save some money to buy one more player.
