Richard Dunne...

Thought you said he was banned?

He had a good game overall shutting down Berbatov whenever he could.

He should've been, but I found out last week he wasn't.

He got a straight red in the match, not sure how he got away with just a one match ban.

 guess who has just equalled Patrick Vieira and Duncan Fergusons record of 8 red cards

On the same day Vidic was the stalwart upon which we now hold the joint record for most consecutive clean sheets in the league. For shame Pogue, for shame :smirk:

I hadn't seen this thread before. Just read the first page, and I have to congratulate everybody involved on one of the most straight-faced wind-ups ever executed.

Vidic with pace... brilliant!

The commentator on five live said in the first half that Dunne needed to calm down or he'd get sent off.

Meh. I was bladdered and excited after Dunne had played superbly for Ireland. On his day he's a class defender and was superb when City had a decent run last season. Much better than his über-hyped central defensive partner.

Still, the "Vidic with pace" comment isn't my best work and Dunne seems to be hell-bent on becoming the worst drfender in the league, pretty much ever since I started this damn thread.

Of course, the fact he's dragging City through the shit with him more than make up for my redcafe street cred taking a nose-dive. A small price to pay I reckon :D

It was obvious he would go if he made one more foul after he got the final warning at the end of the first half as he totted up plenty of fouls after his first booking.

I admit that I have a soft spot for the man ..........

that is after he scored twice for us vs City in the derby, some years back.... :)

I agree with much of what Pogue says in his opening post. He is a brilliant defender and up there with the best.

Anyone can laugh at a player when he's not had his best outings. Like Vidic after his performance against Liverpool at Old Trafford last season.

In: Lescott £24 mill.

Out: Dunne £6m

Oh my.

Hmmm...

I made a bit of a twonk of myself in the first few pages of this thread (especially the bit about him being the third best defender in the league :wenger:) but it is interesting to see some of the names mentioned as clearly far superior to him e.g. Toure, Skrtel and David fecking Wheater

If Vidic did move on in the summer we could do a lot worse than replacing him with Dunne, that's for sure.

He he, it get's funnier every time I'm reminded of it.

Dunee was a shrewd signing for Martin O' Neill and it was ridiculous why City got rid of him especially for that price and with a lack of good center halves around

One of the bargains of the season. Experienced defender. Proven leader. Player with a 'massive' point to prove. Oh how citeh have missed him.

Of course we could, there are worse players than him.

But remember Rio and Vidic are in the absolute top bracket, among the best five in the world.

How do you reckon Dunne would fare in the CL? How's he for ROI against the top nations?

For the record, I do not suggest we buy him.

He's usually MOTM in most of our games against big sides. Mainly because we spend the whole time under the cosh! In a green shirt I've seen him put in monster performances against top class strikers, time and time again.

For the record, I don't suggest we buy him either.

We could do alot better too.

Playing for United would be very different as we're more often than not in possession of the ball.

Anyway, he'd do alright for us I reckon.
