Richard Dunne...

the sad thing about Dunne, for the Irish among us, is that he is the only decent centre half we have. And thats the only position we were good at churning out. McGrath, Moran, McCarthy, Lawrenson and so on

We are struggling for some decent centre halves alright. Dunne is playing poorly at the moment. O'Shea has done well at centre half for Ireland recently but he can't get a game at United. McShane is brutal really. Andy O'Brien was never an international defender. I don't even see what players are coming through. Darren O'Dea has barely played for Celtic all season. Paddy McCarthy and Alex Bruce are terrible terrible players. Joe O'Cearuill is now at Pats after playing a couple of internationals a couple of years ago. Gavin Gunning and Eddie Nolan appear to be the best prospects but they haven't made the breakthrough as expected. The one match Joey O'Brien played centre half for Ireland he did pretty well.

Dunne has been absolutely shocking today, looked well out of his depth.

Sending off, own goals, big mistakes.

Well done Pogue.

This is too good to be true.

He was always shit. Shame it took a bizarre run of quite hilarious feck ups for some people to cotton on to this fact.

/HomerWhisperMode/ Shhhh, don't tell Pogue, he thinks Dunne is world class /endHomerWhisperMode/

this is definitely the caf effect BTW.

earlier in the season people were saying how shite a certain french winger from Chelsea was, and then he went on a scoring run... the caf is an all encompassing entity!

You a bluey? Never realised that.

And yes, Dunne's a quality player. He's really developed his game over the last few seasons.
he's Irish.

Dunne is one of those guys that is at his best when its a "backs to the wall" scenario. He'll head and hoof balls clear all day long, but pass him the ball and he wont know what to do with it. I think this thread stemmed from his performance against Cyprus, and in fairness to Dunne, defending a 1-0 lead he was exactly what we needed that night. Hes prone to the occasional feck up, but he does a great job for Ireland alongside the mediocre Kilbane, JOS and McShane. If you threw Rio in alongside those 3 he'd be out of his depth.
I wouldn't like to see him in a United shirt but horses for courses.

Good point.

A belated

Is he available for the derby?

Nope, he's out for the Arsenal and United match.

And with the way Ban Haim played yesterday it looks like it'll make a big difference.

I think we should all thank Pogue for completely ruining Richard Dunne's season up until now.

My pleasure :smirk:

Doesn't change the fact he is a quality centre-half and the best at City, by quite some margin. Good news he won't be playing against us.

He was very, very good over the past two years but he isn't a better defender than Carragher, or Terry.
