Renato Sanches | Loaned to Swansea

Blind in my opinion, he was made to look good because he'd make this busting runs against the likes of Hungary and Wales and people bought into it thinking he was the next Yaya Toure and he literally won the award after scoring one goal against Poland. Yet I can remember the countless times he kept giving the ball away and his passing for a supposed defensive midfielder was atrocious. Even the best managers in the world get it wrong from time to time and they definitely got it wrong Bayern and I could possibly see him departing this summer because with the way the market is, they could get their money back since clubs in England have unlimited money these days
Now we know for sure who is blind

Yeah, and then demand a move to Madrid or Barcelona once we've turned him into a superstar.

I think this ship has sailed. He rejected us for Bayern and we should now be looking at bringing someone in that's more of the finished article. Someone that isn't going to need 2-3 years of development.
We need to send Pogba packing ASAP

You cannot compare the two at all.

One is a global superstar that is literally a nats bollock away from being the best midfielder in the world. The other is a 19 year old kid that might never get any better than he currently is.

We need an experienced midfielder to be bought this summer, that can walk in to the team besides Herrera and Pogba.

So you think we should sign him? We need a midfielder who will be an immediate starter for us and not some kid who will take his own sweet time to develop. We already have enough kids on our hands incase you forgot.

Thats not the point..a 19 year old isnt a flop no matter if we sign him or not. Jose is a known admirer so its possible.

Still maintain he's overrated. Just not good enough technically. Could do a job as back up to Herrera but is that worth 30mil?

He didnt reject us..we had no manager ffs

The deal to Bayern was announced when LVG was still in charge, wasn't it?

Then again, I don't blame him for not wanting to play for that clown :D

Your argument was that he rejected us for Bayern. Well Pogba rejected us for Juve too.

That's fair. What I meant was his time at Bayern so far has been a flop. He didn't get enough games and his progress has stalled. He should go to a club like Southampton, Monaco or Dortmund who give youngsters the opportunity to develop. We should be aiming for someone who can make an immediate impact like Naingollan (just an example).

Fair point. Naingollan will be a tough one to pull off

Being older doesnt mean a transfer will pan out.

We should be getting proven (not necessarily older) players but they also cost more. A team has to strike a balance between youth, potential and experience. We need to buy younger (<26yrs) proven players and some very young (<21) high potential prospects. That is how we can assemble a core group that will last a long time and not spend every summer looking for another big ticket signing that can only perform at the top for 2-3yrs.

If the kid is available for a low enough fee, I have no problem with signing him. he has the potential but it remains to be seen how much of it will materialize

Has to agree. Don't really care much about this and players opinion change all the time.

My only concern is if he comes on loan, completely unacceptable for me, if he's for permanent sale I have no big problems. Jose wanted him by name last season so he'll know how to use him.

I doubt Jose will go for him after he rejected us last season.

He's exciting to watch on song, but I also haven't seen enough technical ability in him to make me think he'll be one of the best.

It's not about the age. Naingollan was just an example. It's about being good enough to immediately come in and have a positive impact on the team. We need to sign 4-5 players this season. So why buy someone we don't need at the moment? This window is all about getting the players that will raise our game to the next level. Once that is done, we can go back to our usual policy of getting young players with great potential.

This would be an interesting deal for us. Bayern paid 35 million euro for him, and has a total of 45 million euro extra in performance based clauses, none of which has been activated yet. If Bayern get their money back for a player that has had a bad season for them and been unable to settle in at the club, they would probably sell him in a heartbeat. Throw 30 million pounds at them, and he is ours for sure.

So the question is whether we need him or not. He is one of the biggest talents in the world, but he is probably not the kind of player that we need the most in todays squad. However, I can see him getting games as a backup for Pogba and Herrera, along with Carrick, Fellaini and Andreas Pereira. Mourinho was obviously a huge fan of Sanches last summer, and if he had been appointed as our new manager earlier, he would have brought in Sanches for sure. Remember that the player himself at the time had a concrete offer from Bayern, while the Manchester United deal depended that Mourinho was appointed as our new manager and was allowed to buy Sanches. You can't really give him stick because he choice to sign for Bayern, when the option was to wait and maybe sign for a weaker team with no Champions League football.

Those players might no longer be available when you come back.

You need to take a look at the transfer policy that madrid followed at the return of perez ad how it has put them in their current position

It would be a pointless signing. As somebody else has already mentioned, we have Andreas Pereira coming back and we should give him a place in the squad for next season. He could go on to be a better player than Sanches.

I like Perreira and he has plenty of potential to be a great player. The thing is Perreira has had a good season out on loan at Granada and a couple of games for us. Isnt he pretty much the same age as Sanches who has played a prominent role at Benfica, starred in the Euros for the winning side and then had a bad season where he has barely played for arguably the biggest club in Europe currently. Isnt he younger than Rashford and Martial who are two big talents breaking through?

Whether or not some people rate Sanches, labelling him a flop and technically not good enough is strange to me, he has achieved an incredible amount already in his career for his age.

We have some very talented young players in our squad I think in Mensah, Perreira, Januzaj, Tzuanbe. Whether they go on to be big players for us or other clubs is something only time will tell, apart from Januzaj they are all just making there way in to the game. Sanches is far further in progression and experience than any of them, whether he can progress into a great or wont go any further is another thing altogether, but people labelling him a flop already is laughable. How well would Perreira have done at Bayern for example? And that isnt knocking Perreira as I rate him very highly too

Couldn't seem less like a Mourinho player. Has Jose ever preferred a dribbling/technical player in central midfield?

Jose hates risks, and Sanches is a perpetual one. As someone else pointed out, absolutely no need for that with Pogba - who plays a similar role and basically is better in every way.

Also love Bayern's balls: Massively overpay for the latest hot thing, then agree to sell...but only if someone else is stupid enough to equally overpay.

Maybe I just don't rate Renato Sanchez as much as you do. If it was someone like Dembele, I wouldn't think twice.

At 19 he would be a back up anyway right?
I want not want to pay 30/40mil for a back up that lacks the technical ability to be a top tier player, would you?

Yes. Fabregas, Modric, Herrera, Pogba, to name a few.

Come on, the kid is 19 years old. You can't expect to have a calm, disciplined player who takes the easy options every time at that age. However, Sanches is physically very strong, does a lot of running, has the ability to go past people, and his defensive contribution is solid. If Mourinho can work with him an teach him some discipline, he would turn into a world class player. Can see a role for him this season as a backup to Pogba in a 4231, and together with Pogba and Herrera in a midfield trio in the toughest games. Give Carrick a new contract, play Herrera as a defensive terrier against the top teams, and bring in Renato Sanches instead of a new defensive midfielder.

I agree with you it's silly to label Sanches a flop already. He's 19 and it's normal for a young lad to struggle to find his feet at a new club especially at a massive club like Bayern. It was a big money move and there's been a lot of pressure on him and he's simply not lived up to the hype this season. But it's way too early to write him off and people need to keep in mind that Ancelotti doesn't have the best of reputations when it comes to young players. Bayern should either loan him out to another German club or be patient with him.

I just don't think he's what we need right now. We have arguably an equally talented midfielder on our books in Pereira and I would like to see him get a place in the squad next season as back up.

He will never ever be a world class player, could become a really good player but he has no chance of becoming world class.

Easily one of the most overrated players I ever seen. I'm portuguese and I don't even know exactly what is his role on the field.
He is pretty decent in alot of things (passing, crossing, etc), extraordinary at none

Average player with an average potential

A player who is still developing is overrated? Okay.

Mourinho would love to play father figure to this kid, having failed to convince him to join United a year ago. Besides, the language issue, which I partially blame for what's happening to him in Munich, could be well resolved in United's friendly Portuguese environment.

I think that is an absurd opinion, can you please tell us why you are 100% sure that he never will be world class? He is one of the best players in the world in his age group, and has every chance of becoming one of the best players in the world. At the age of 19 he has been a key part of a title winning Benfica squad that made it to the quarter final in Champions League, and featured in 6 of 7 games as he won the Euros with Portugal. He has even showed abilities that made a sensible club like Bayern München potentially break their transfer record in order to get their hands on him. Very, very few players have done that much at the age of 19. He has achieved far more than the likes of Pogba, Suarez, Bale, Aguero and Griezmann had at his age. You can't seriously mean that one bad season in a new country with limited game time and problems adapting to the new culture and language is enough to transform one of the biggest talents in the world of football into a hopeless player that will never become world class.

Just look at Mbappe who has been absolutely on fire this season, and is on everyones lips. Give him a season at Real Madrid where he hardly plays and has problem adapting, and you will see how fragile a player is at that age. But the fact that you are not performing week in week out at that age, does certainly not mean that you have lost all you abilities as a footballer over night.

I've watched him since youth level and never really convinced. A monster but Pereira is easily the more naturally talented footballer.
