Renato Sanches | Loaned to Swansea

I see people keep talking about Renato Sanches's bags of abilities and potential. Curiously, can someone elaborate on them? I mean, what are the things he is currently good at and which of his abilities can they see being developed to World Class level?

From what I have seen of him so far, he is an average passer, below average technique and vision, lack of understanding of the game, average defensive game, don't know about his finishing. He is very good at driving forward with the ball, good work-rate, kind of pacy, difficult to push off the ball due to his core strength. If he can develop these abilities to top level, we would be looking at a Moussa Sissoko type of a player. Will that be good enough for our club?
Did you watch Portugal under 21's on Saturday? As your top line is put under pressure from the incredible pass he played in that game for a goal. The composure to sit and wait whilst under pressure whilst he waited for his team mate to see what he was going to do then plays a milllimeter perfect path with the outside of his boot. Also not the first time he has played some excellent passes. If anything I'd say often his eyes are too big for his current ability and he tries too many ridiculous passes that Porto, Pogba so on would struggle to execute. His strength is also his reading of a game and where to be.

What he really needs is to go somewhere where a manager can give him time and put faith in him somewhere like Arsenal or Spurs maybe City. He's not going to get many opertunities at Bayern or here. Actually Dortmund would be a good place for him. He Weigl,Dahoud in that midfield with Dembele and whomever stays up front would be intresting.

Dont think he was good at all, even his assist was a simple chip, he reminds me of anderson, not the one who showed potential but anderson in his last years at the club.

A player with his season behind him and all things included should never cost more than £15m, no fecking chance in hell we should pay more.

What pressure? The defender wasn't even half-pressing Sanches, and he had all the time in the world to make a chipped pass over a static defence. I wouldn't call that incredible passing. Anderson, for all his faults, was much better on the ball than Renato can ever hope to be. Frankly, I fail to see anything extra ordinary in the boy for now, ( he might improve drastically in the future, that remains to be seen) and I doubt putting him in a midfield with Pogba and Ander will improve us somehow.

But I agree with you on the fact that he needs regular play time to improve himself and would do good to join a team where he gets to play regularly. I just don't think it will be with us and Pereira is a much better option and deserves to get a chance with the first team next season.

What mate he froze the defender with his first movement, the defender is blocking the pass others are coming in on him and he holds his nerve and if anything he lifted it round the player not really a dink over him.

I thought that showed an incredible amount of awareness and bravery. Having him in the squad will improve us in combination with those two maybe not but if one of them is injured he can do a job at a high level of either.

So the guy is not chosen for Portuguese national team. Instead it's under 21 now. Not that I am judging but don't you think that's a bit of a demotion for a guy who last year was dubbed the best thing in the world

Mendes/Benfica + Portuguese media = very strong propaganda machine.
Benfica doesnt need to sell him anymore so the pressure in Fernando Santos to select isnt there anymore.
Last year we were bombed everyday with news about him, now him not being selected was just a minor headline that isnt even talked about.

He abuses his physicality to make his forward runs and pressing but apart from that he was and is a very raw type of player that lacks some fundamentals of football, like passing ability.

On that performance, poor man's Fellaini with Rooney's 1st touch.

Well said. Looking at his passing skills in the U21 game made me wonder that whether he actually has vision. I guess passing comes with age but vision to pick out a player or see a pass comes naturally to excellent players.
As far as propaganda part is concerned, I'll take your word for it

He looks weak and sluggish. Guessing he was still carrying some injury! Looks like a normal poor display from an injured player.

Didn't watch the first half but in second half, he looked out of sorts. Either the boy has lost all the confidence or he was never up to scratch as many here say

People were seeing things that weren't there. He was getting complimented during the Euros last summer despite being average and scoring a deflected goal.

I said before and during the euros that he was a nothing player. I got laughed at. Even by the resident portuguese expert posters who should know better. The laughter and hype was growing exponentially with his so called 'amazing' performances at the euros. Hah fecking hah!

I am right 80 percent of the time. And it doesn't require more than just common sense and clear adult judgement without being affected by sheep mentality. Qualities that most people seem to lack on here these days.

This. Completely over hyped as usual. Paul Merson said he would be the best player in the world in a couple of years time. Doesn't have a clue.

You can count on one hand the number of world class players. Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez....

Everyone is raving about Mbappe. I would wait to see him in a second and third season before I make my judgement.

Mbappe is the far more polished player already. Sanches has natural gifts and there is potential to be build on. But he is incredibly raw. Especially tactically. The move to Bayern came far too early and we seem to be having the wrong coach to develop him.

Mbappe is a pretty sure thing in my opinion. At least as sure as those things can be.

Surely someone else feels at least some camaraderie with Bayern by getting fleeced over the 'next big thing' signing? Overpaying based on barely a season is a United special :)

Yeah but this is the Problem with those very Young Players. Clubs have to pay huge add-ons for what-could-be. This is like investing in a start-up.
I agree that Mbappe Looks like a much better Player but I would never risk paying 100+ Mio right now for him.
We had our own experiences with Memphis who a lot of People expected to become the next Ronaldo.

He seems to be for sale for 30 mio €. Mourinho said multiple times that the transfer to us wouldn't have happend if he would have been earlier in charge - maybe he buys him now?

Mourinho says a lot of things to make himself look better. Not saying he definitely wont buy him mind, just that what he said doesnt really matter.

Many sources pointed to that before he even spoke about it. LVG presence at this time was the only reason we stopped our interest in him.

I don't think we'll move for him again unless Bayer want to sell once and for all which I don't see it happening. They bought him for a good sum of money so they won't him leave that easily.

I'd take this guy as well as Fabinho. We need a bit of depth in midfield.

If the price is right we should take the gamble. I understand that the media may have got carried away but there must be something about the lad to like to be playing in a European Championship for the eventual winners and signed by Bayern

Still only 19yo and has all the physical attributes to play in the PL. Maybe Bayern feel he isn't technically polished enough to play their way in their league but that doesn't mean we couldn't turn him into a great PL midfield destroyer

I'm aware of our interest. I'm just saying Mourinho saying he'd have definitely gone for him back then doesnt mean much.

I agree with fabinho but
Fabinho
Andreas
Fellaini
Carrick
Pogba
Herrera
is a lot of depth for 3 midfield places. Carrick won't be here after the upcoming season so we MIGHT need to keep an eye on Renato's situation.

Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo, Suarez, Modric, Kroos, Griezmann.... I could go on. How many fingers do you have?

Merson is indeed a Johnson.

Thing is, while you waited for 2nd or third season to fully assess Mbappe, someone else was more decisive and signed him up 12 months earlier. So all you'll have learned is whether you missed out on the next big thing, or if you dodged a bullet. Highly unlikely you'll get a second bite at the cherry.

What exactly has Sanchez done to be categorised as "quality" while Pereira goes in the "quantity" bucket?
Well, Sanches played big Champions League's games, almost won by himself the Portuguese league for Benfica, and participated nicely in the Euro win for Portugal. Pereira helped Granada descend to the lower tier.

Well, unlike you, I didnt watch much of him for Benfica so I'll have to take your word for it but its tough to digest a CM winning the league for his team singlehandedly. Coming to the present, he's struggling to play 90mins for his country's U21 side, that's how good he's been. He's also being offloaded by his current club having ranged from shite to non existent in his time there. The only big CL game he's played in the last year was the last group match vs Atletico, not sure if qualification was secure by then but I'm guessing it was. He was nothing special in the Euros either unless you just mean he played in it which is hardly enough to brand someone as "quality". Coming to Pereira, I'm hoping you realise how stupid what you've written is so I'll just let it be.

Essentially, one is a player who was/is(if you're feeling generous) considered a big talent who's failed to deliver on the big stage while the other is the same but is yet to feature in it. I dont really care exactly how high you rate their talent but there's no way Sanches is already quality while Pereira is just quantity unless just playing for big club makes him quality in which case we're stocked with quality already.

If I didn't watch that campaign myself, I'd have thought that Sanches pulled off a Suarez/RvP type charge for the title. He was a part of a very good bunch of players. He played his part but he was not the best player in the squad. His young age just hyped him up to astronomical level, somewhere you seem to have carried on from.

Sell Fellaini and Carrick is probably in his last year at United.

At this price we could take a gamble and possibly have a midfield like this next year:

Fabinho
Andreas
Pogba
Herrera
Sanchez

Which is pretty sound for several years if everybody turns out like their talent would suggest.
