I will be doing a slightly strategic list this time
Dr Strangelove would be my number 1. Paths of glory would be on it as wellIs it just me or has there been a suprisingly few number of Kubrick films submitted. I would have had Barry Lyndon on a longer list. Come at me haters!
No Kitano films so far
All my love for Balu is justified now. Dr Strange love as number 1Dr Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and
.
You love me? Not sure I want a relationship with someone with anger issues. All my love for Balu is justified now. Dr Strange love as number 1
Sorry for being pedantic, but it's called 'The Lives of Others'. Excellent choice. I'm really glad that it gets so much recognition outside of Germany. Easily the best German film of the last 2 or 3 decades.Life of the others (2006) - 16 - 1 Point
Urghhh I have a bad feeling all 3 batman movies will be in top 10 or something. Really hope not.Coppola and Nolan will sweep the top three it seems, not sure what order though.

We actually once did a top 100 movies list, a very long project with everyone submitting their 100 list. Much better than this though more demanding. I had to make a strategic list and add in some movies which were not getting a shout out at all.
Batman Begins I think was the best of the lot. Dark Knight was good and mainly elevated by Ledger.I think the other two will be fairly low on the list (bit harsh on the first one which is quite underrated), but the acclaimed one will definitely be in the top three.
My list is sort of strategic, but it's hard to leave out films you feel you need to list. Best I could do in terms of giving certain films a shout-out was putting Wall-E in 4th (one of four films I'd give a perfect 10/10) and Grave of the Fireflies in 20th. It deserves a point. Oh, and some love for Harry Potter, too.

I'm having similar issues with what kind of movies to pick. I know for example that everyone's gonna pick City of God, so I'm flirting with the idea of replacing it in my list with something a little less high profile like Central do Brasil.
That's stupid.
You should simply make the list of top 100 movies according to you, forget *** what others are picking. This is not a reality show

German cinema tapered off a lot after the 70's it feels, I've enjoyed Goodbye, Lenin! and Head-On along with The Lives of Others in the last decade though.Sorry for being pedantic, but it's called 'The Lives of Others'. Yeah, we always had a few good directors, but Fassbinder, Herzog and Wenders took it to a totally different level in the 70's along with Petersen, Schlöndorff and a few others. The 90's weren't that great though, Tom Tykwer saved that decade with Run Lola Run at the end, but overall our neighbours in Austria probably made the better films - Michael Haneke's Funny Games almost made my list, terrifying movie. I have Tykwer's Heaven in my list, wouldn't call it a German movie though, it's more European. Kieslowski's last script, Tykwer's cinematography, Cate Blanchett is excellent in it. It took me a while to appreaciate the ending, but it's one of my top 5 films of the last decade now. Sadly, he didn't direct anything remotely great since then.German cinema tapered off a lot after the 70's it feels, I've enjoyed Goodbye, Lenin! and Head-On along with The Lives of Others in the last decade though.
He must mean that, stunning film, not sure how I missed it off my own list!Surely you mean 2006's The Return with Sarah Michelle Gellar?
I thought Perfume was a nice visual treat.Yeah, we always had a few good directors, but Fassbinder, Herzog and Wenders took it to a totally different level in the 70's along with Petersen, Schlöndorff and a few others. Nope, extended to Wednesday so you're ok - will collate it after the deadlines passed.Edited mine. In case it had already been collated.
I thought Perfume was a disaster, but I love the book way too much and probably never gave the film a fair chance. And nope, I haven't seen Oh Boy yet, but heard wonderful things about it. I hope one of the open air cinemas around here will show it this summer. I hate it, if I have to watch movies at home first, so if I miss films when they come out, it usually takes a few years until I've seen them.I thought Perfume was a nice visual treat.
You seen Oh Boy?
I think there is a big difference between doing a top 100 and top 15. But yeah I probably should have just done a straight one without juggling it for points for movies getting less of a mention.Back in 2007:
I'll have to see that again because I recall disliking it. Was too harsh... almost like a propaganda movie. And that list is decent save Goodfellas.I am glad some are putting in Come and See. Brutal movie.
I feel like this was a win that Shotgun raisin deserved.Shotgun raisin never truly recovered. RIP.
