The only thing that prevented the opponent from suffering a horrific injury was that his lower leg was planted on the ground as Suarez connected. If he's standing upright that leg is snapped, and we're talking compound fracture and possible ligament, muscle and tendon damage too. Could have ended the player's career.
If I were a teammate and saw that lunge I would tear into Suarez and gladly take my five-to-ten match ban. Sometimes I wish football allowed what hockey does - in-game justice.
