Are you serious? I'm sick of hearing it, said it when we had Ronaldo and Rooney at the same time, then when Ronnie left we became a one man team with Rooney. Now we've got Rooney and RVP, we're still a one man team? Morons.

If anybody's been a one man team in the last 10 years, it's Liverpool. Where on earth would they been in the last decade without Steven Gerrard?

Maybe we should leave the premiership and join a moneyball league. We would probably win that.

I dunno about that, mate. Arsenal lost the Emirates Cup

Well, these days Liverpool are the One Direction of PL football.

To be fair, most of them rate RvP as the best out and out striker in the world.

 Is that real? Wasn't Gerrard admitting that he will probably never win the league a few days ago?

What's so special about Gerrard winning the Premiership? There are hundreds of Premiership players and thousands of lower-division players that will never realise that dream.

Does Gerrard have any extra right to win it?

The Liverpool team that started the match v WBA scored 33 league goals last season.

Liverpool have sold players this summer that scored 37% of all their goals last season.

Go figure.

I think it was Plech* who said 'there is something rotten in that state of dem no marks, la.'

* I know he didn't say this, but has said there's something rotten at that club.

Gerrard is one of the best players England have produced. He plays for one of the 3 biggest clubs in England. It is quite right to expect that such a player should have at least a league title to his name.

No but he said the other day that he admits he probably won't ever win the league. When Sven said if he wants to, he'd be best changing club, Gerrard has come out saying he thinks Liverpool aren't far away from winning it. Do you not see the contradiction?

an office mate of mine was talking to some Liverpool supporters...and they apparently said 'United's time is coming to an end..." think they are referring to Fergie being about to retire in a year or so....

its always about United though....:)

Then he should have done an "Owen" and gone and played for either United or Chelsea. Sometimes, you can ask for too much. Not only does he want to win a champions medal but he wants to do it with a team that struggled for a long time. He needs a reality check.

I am sorry but they arent one of the three biggest clubs in england, not anymore. Historically maybe but not now.

Gerrard is stuck there now, he should have gone to Chelsea when he had the chance, glad he didn't mind you. He looked terrible today, his day has been and gone.

RVP was described on there as the best striker in the league by a distance. I keep on getting indignant and wanting to say its Rooney due to bias, then remember that I'm now allowed to say its RVP

Huge but shit.

I'll take that.

What was Rogers thinking going there? He will be lucky to survive given that it looks like it will take him forever to turn them around so fundamentally and the lack of funds for transfers.

They obviously are. They have a huge global fan-base and are probably one of the 5 most famous clubs in the world.

Correct. The fan base they have is amazing ensuring they will always be there or thereabouts a big big club. They're the complete opposite of City.

The Beatles of football? They wish. Only one footballer I can think of ever had the nickname El Beatle...

There's not many British managers would turn down Liverpool. I agree it's a poisoned chalice but you don't get many opportunities for that level of money and prestige.

Rogers is an interesting manager. Think they got lucky with him. Our only hope is the delusional scousers don't give him the time to have them playing the way he wants.
He is not afraid to make some tough decisions.

The thing is I don't actually think Liverpool are regarded as a big club outside of the UK now though. They haven't competed in the Champions League for three seasons and that is unlikely to change with this season. The longer they are out of it, the further their brand and renown falls because the CL is really what sets apart the teams in terms of prestige when it comes to leagues like the PL, La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga. They're all living on success that happened decades ago and that does not translate to modern media, which is very fast paced and all about the now.

It's an over-reach for Rodgers. Lambert has achieved much more and has a next step up at Villa. Bullying 17-year-olds doesn't look like the way to go.

Does Liverpool really hold any prestige in the PL era though? Let's say we discount the League Cup, Super Cup and Charity Shield because they don't really hold much prestige. Neither does the UEFA Cup but we'll include it because Europe is still a tough competition, even in the Europa League. They've won five prestigious trophies since the PL came in. That's nothing really. They're turning into a footnote, like Forest or Leeds.

Thing is, he just had some great seasons with Swansea, his stock was very high and the opportunity came along.

In today's English football if he doesn't take it, he might miss out forever because one shite season and you can be damned forever. And he was probably confident that he could turn Liverpool around, that sort of self-belief is crucial at this level.
