RAWK Goes Into Meltdown (2011/2012)

By the way the guys at RAWK said that Evra called Suarez's mom a whore. Any truth?

Not quite... Evra basically said something in Spanish that, literally would be translated like that, but in actuality means something akin to "son of a bitch" ... This is something that Suarez himself confirmed, but as none of them have actually read the report, they're all clueless and keep peddling the same old shit as a form of defence.

Evra admitted saying it but Suarez also admitted not hearing it.

Yes, but Suarez confirmed that the meaning of the phrase is akin to saying "son of a bitch" ... not literally saying his mother is a whore.

Apparently the phrase he used "Concha de tu hermana" literally translates as "your sister's cnut". But yeah Suarez agreed that it basically means the same as "son of a bitch" or even as tame as "fecking hell" depending on when it's used.

There's a cultural difference here though. In Latin American (and some European) countries that serves as one of the worst insults you can hand out. I was in a taxi last night, and the driver was an Asian Liverpool fan, and kept repeating that "if someone called me a paki, I wouldn't care, I am a paki, but if he called my sister a whore I'd kill him", now I don't know how much truth is there, and how much is just defending his player, but the I can understand how it offends people of different cultures differently.

But I refer back to the original defence: we're not in a Latin American country.

I disagree with the 'tame' bit, where've you heard that? 'Hijo de puta' (son of a bitch) is a serious insult in Spain, and I'd assume, South America.

But it's not an insult... it's an expression. It's literal translation isn't really relevant as that's not what it actually means. It's similar to saying "La puta madre" which literally means "mother slut" but is just a way of expressing anger.

From the Report:

"Mr Evra stated that the goalmouth incident started when he addressed Mr Suarez, beginning with the phrase "Concha de tu hermana". According to the experts, the literal translation is "your sister's cnut" and it can be taken as a general swear word expressing anger, although the word "concha" is not as taboo as the English word "cnut". It is thus equivalent to "fecking hell" or "feck me". If directed at someone in particular, it can also be understood as "[you] son of a bitch"."

This was something that was accepted by all parties as being correct.

I can't believe people will spend months talking about this and won't spend a few mins reading the very detailed report.

Read the goddamn report.

They are liars.
Kuyt AND Comolli AND Dalgleish got caught lying.
The bucktooth cannibal got caught lying.

Paddy Evra was honest.

F.A. doesn't like being lied to - bollix gets banned for 8.

Now, he refuses Paddy's handshake.
Dalgleish previously said it was going to be a non-issue.
He is a cheating, biting, dishonest nasty bit of work.

In other breaking news, Carroll is shite.

True... but if they don't then, I'll have to do it for them...

"Hijo de puta" is a completely different phrase altogether... though it's translation is similar, the meaning/feeling behind it is very different.

It's like comparing apples and oranges.

As an aside on the Latin America bit... taken from wikipedia...

"While hijo de puta is a common insult in Latin American countries (and is even dismissed as a not very offensive one), saying tu madre es una puta ("your mother is a whore"), while just a slight rewording, is much more offensive to the average Latin American, since it is perceived more as a personal insult to one's mother than to oneself."

Ok. Who brought this up again ffs. Let the handshake be the only talking point. The OJ Simpson case and Hitler are the next in line to be referenced.

Someone asked the question, I answered.... someone else challenged it, I posted again. If people are uninformed on a topic, even if it has been discussed and analysed to death, I don't see the harm in quickly answering their questions or setting them straight... that's what a forum is for of course. True they could just use the search function... but it's 4am and I thought i'd be helpful.

Looking forward to reading tomorrow's press on the handshake mind... I don't imagine Suarez will be getting much sympathy from anywhere.

Hmmm, how about now?

hodgsonipbe4.gif

I just spat toast everywhere

ok just to clarify, you said "he has had rubbish counselling, personally i blame the counselling"....

personally i think the handshake incident today was of his own doing and that lfc (including dalglish) expected him to shake hands with evra. sure he has had poor advice but its not the reason for todays madness.

Agree both in-game incidents are his own doing and he wasn't told to do either thing. My point is the first incident should have been resolved as soon as the whole issue surfaced with a simple and brief apologetic statement, anyone with two brain cells who knows how this things work would have told him to do that.

Today's incident also reflects badly in that

1. I think it is a direct result of him being fully inducted into their victim/"poor me" syndrome (his whole demeanour has changed dramatically, he has withdrawn to his own shell, which doesn't bode well for his effectiveness as a player) and

2. Liverpool staff shouldn't have "thought" he was going to shake hands, they should have "told him to". Everyone has been going on about this game being explosive and the return of Suarez against us ever since the suspension started and more so over the last week. Did no one think about going through the possible triggers of a dispute/suspensions/red card situation and go through them with him and brief him on how to act? It sounds elementary to me. Is there not one straight-thinking person in the whole of LFC? That's the sort of detail I would expect not just SAF but half our coaching staff (let alone PR/management advisors) to be onto well in advance.

He is of course responsible for his own actions, it's just odd that a multimillion pound "franchise" has no resources allocated to dealing/managing a problematic multimillion pound asset. :wenger:

antohan, are you suggesting Suarez should have been told to apologise? Is he 5 years old? Should he not have realised, from the reaction nationwide, that he did something wrong, and acted accordingly? Liverpool and Dalglish have acted like proper tools in all of this, no doubt, but Luis Suarez is a grown man, he should know the difference between right and wrong, and know that if you do wrong you say sorry. He shouldn't have to be told.

And that is correct. Again, roughly 30% of the times you say that you are just cursing and not directing it at anyone in particular, 40% you are probably using it with a mate in a similar way to FFS, 20% you are swearing at another driver who can't even hear you and the other 10% you actually mean something along the lines of "son of a bitch" and intend to sound aggressive and pissed off.

No one in their right mind would take the literal meaning.

Most players will refer to their club for guidance on delicate matters such as this and rightly so, particularly in a foreign country when they are not fluent either.

He (or his agent, who is a complete knob and probably too far up Pool's arse) should have had the intelligence to realise the club was not taking him anywhere good and done his own thing. He is not a bright cookie though, that is pretty obvious.

Your caveats on swearing nuances are quite accurate

Lets be honest though, this is every single Liverpool fan in the world today. It's a disgrace. Go to any footballing site, any sporting site, any fecking video game site that has a football sub forum and they're all singing the same bloody tune. Even B19 was nearly getting on to it.

Yeah. Like literally translating something like 'feck me' would mean something completely different to what it means in English

They should look at the difference between Suarez handshake with Evra and the one with Rio.

He was waiting for Rio's hand, but completely ignored Evra.

Yes, but Evra snubbed him.

Dickheads.

If I was a victim (which Evra is) and my offender offers me a handshake I would wait for him to make the first move. From what I have seen in the videos and the pics this certainly was a factor playing on both the players minds. BUT Luis Suarez being the offender in this case should have made more of an effort to shake Evra's hand.

Also probably should have looked at Evra, or even acted like Evra existed, instead of the next player in line.

It's pretty obvious that Suarez was never gonna shake Evra's hand, goes straight to DDG like Evra isn't there.

It may be true that Evra didn't stick his hand out as far as he did with the other players, but claiming Suarez made an honest attempt to shake his hand but couldn't (as some Liverpool fans have) is just laughable.

That's my point. Evra lowered his hand and it would be interesting to hear him say why. But in view of the circumstances, you can't blame him. Maybe he was reluctant, or unsure, or just wanted to show that he was doing it, but not keen. The Liverpool fans are saying that he tricked Suarez, but the onus was still on Suarez to take Evra's hand, and it would have made him look a darn sight better than he does now.

I do tend to agree that Fergie shouldn't have spouted off about what Liverpool should do with their players. He wouldn't have been pleased if the Liverpool manager had said it about Eric over the Crystal Palace incident.

Can't believe the scousers have twisted this around and made Suarez the victim again.

Forget North Korea, we've got a deluded brainwashed cult right here in the West. It's getting close to frightening now.

It really is a fecking joke is in it, we are in for another week of this bollox. He didnt shake his hand ,so what. The little prick pulled his hand back then put on his little show for the camera.cant beleve that he is not being pulled up for the shite at the end of the match either .He was trying to provoc a reaction from Luis, dont know how he kept calm , i would have opened the c*nts nose with a loaf.
This prick Taylor opening his gob now at every opertuinity . feck the lot of them. If we win at wembly i would send Luis up on his own to collect the cup ,that would really piss the lot of them off.

Just a pity we didnt win yesterday

Absolute nonsense.

Absolute nonsense.

About the pulling the hand back bit, as Chris Kamara said on 'Goals on Sunday', if he had been racially abused that the onus would have been on the abuser (Suarez in this case) to shake hands and not him. He can understand why Evra was reluctant and would have done the same if he was in the same situation.

As has been said several times in various threads on here, Suarez didn't even pause like he did with a few other players, he just moved straight for De Gea and shook his hand, pretending that Evra wasn't there at all.

Fair enough then, seems I've got the wrong end of the stick.

"fecking hell"

Sky Sports
Luis Suarez has issued an apology for not shaking Patrice Evra's hand before Liverpool's game against Man Utd.

Get this over to RAWK.
