Always happy to see him scoring after having to live off scraps for so long. His first goal today and his goal against Forest are great goals, those are the bedrock of 20+ goal strikers.

The most important thing is getting in chances regularly. Nobody scores every chance. He's got 5 goals since Amorim joined, that only deserves praise!
Well he made amends by a lovely second goal but that was a poor miss. 5 goals is very good.

He stays fit and he'll be a 20 goal scorer this season I have no doubt.

With the amount of quality chances he gets when out there due to his movement off the ball and workrate, he should be close to being a goal every other game scorer at least.

People keep obsessing over his hold up play, that's what EtH wanted from him. It's not his game and it's not much of what Amorim wants from him. He wants the 10s to carry the ball to keep Rasmus facing the goal and when we see that more often you'll see the best of Hojlund.

That's the kind of thing you want to see, I think. We had about 4 counter attacks at the end and fecked it every time, I'm sure all of them were frustrated after that, just like us.

Yep. We all like to talk about the SAF era and his players were never slow to get in each others faces and demand better, holding people accountable is part of making the team competetive.

Aging like milk in the sun

You would think I called him a bad player.

How crazy of me to say a £72m striker should have more to his game.

It’s best I say this now that’s he’s ridding high.

I like him but I wish he had more to his game for the price we paid or I wish we paid less so we could get other high potential talent for around the 30-50m price range.

Totally agree with this. Gary Lineker is one of the best goal scorers I've seen and plenty of his goals were from inside the six yard box. It's all about being in the right place.

It was more the claim that his signing made Martial look like a bargain. Adjusted for inflation we paid more for Martial and that is before we get to the insane salary we gave him and the last 3 or 4 seasons here when he was effectively on a paid vacation. You probably could have chosen a better example for the point you were trying to make.

No one other than "transfer fee Andies" care about how much he was paid, he has no influence on that. There are tons of factors that influence the transfer fee. You would think people would actually use their heads and temper their expectations based on what they see and not on the fecking price he was paid.

Lucky first touch for his second goal, but finished well.

Missed a sitter in front of goal.

Faffed around and lost possession on other occasions.

He didn’t play particularly well tonight but he scored two goals and was effective. Got us the win for sure so he deserves credit.

Let’s see which Hojlund turns up over the next 10 games. He’s been rightly criticised on here for his recent form. Hopefully he can step up more and more this season - personally I don’t see it but it’s up to him and our other attacking players to do their bit.

Why feel the need to bring his price tag into it, particularly when it’s widely accepted that the club has overpaid for players consistently for over a decade? Why is his price even relevant when discussing his performances?

He is always great (at least in scoring terms) in European games. Let's hope he'll score even more but in EPL.

Using the Bank of England inflation adjustment calculator we paid more for Hojlund (pre and post bonuses).

The second goal was quality, won us the game, I've my doubts about his all round play but hopefully he proves me wrong on the long run.

I know Amorim likes to change the team around a lot, but I'm hoping after the mad Christmas rush he allows players like Hojlund and Amad to play a good 5 or so games together on the bounce to get into a rhythm.

“I like him but I wish he had more to his game for the price we paid or I wish we paid less so we could get other high potential talent for around the 30-50m price range.”

His price is intrinsically linked to his value (opportunity cost)

Hojlund, Amad, and Bruno as a front three should get playing time together. Garnacho a very frequently used sub. Mount, Zirkzee, and Rashford are clearly second string based on performances and have a lot to prove.

Using my last post today to say congrats to Hoj. Great impact off the bench. Well played.

More to his game? He's trying to second guess everything with non functional no10s and WBs.

If they were predictably taing 1v1 opportunities to attack defenders or get the ball in early in instead of doubling back every single time...

Between the 3 of them (Hojlund, Garnacho and Amad) they wasted 3 glorious chances in the last 5 mins alone.

The dynamic is actually completely fine for those to clash and argue, all 3 kids learning the game. When either of them does something daft I have no problem with they fighting.

It's only an issue if one of those young players were to berate the captain or someone like Casemiro for example.

It’s crazy how hard this guy has to work to win over fans. He’s a top young striker and is getting better.

His price is really not relevant when discussing his performances, to be honest. He’s here and that’s in the past.

Also, why are you including all of his performance and achievement based add ons when using his price as a stick to beat him with? For added effect?

Positives: Two goals, not satisfied, work rate
Negatives: Seems less confident in his general play and decision making than last season. Luckily, he doesn’t seem particularly bothered when finishing, but I do think the lack of consistent passes from Garna and Bruno made him increasingly insecure about when and where to run during the spring - not helped by Eths system and lack of clear playing patterns in attack. Last season until spring he barely lost the ball and made some very neat passes, flicked the ball on and turned on defenders. He has struggled with that this season.

Hopefully we are witnessing a turnaround and the beginning of him fulfilling his potential - a process stalled by Eth.

What is Hojlund berating Amad for ? All the attack that he has broken down, he has no right to berate Amad
