Was delighted when we signed him, but I really hoped we would sign a competent second striker to ease the pressure on him. Glad to see that he isn't sinking under the weight of being our only real option at #9.

Also delighted with some of his vision and link up play around the box. He's created some really good chances for people in the last few games.

In really good form at the minute.

I can't decide if he needs someone experienced like a Martinez or someone of a similar age in Zirkzee

Very good forward. Not one dimensional, knows how to lay it off, makes good runs. Back to goal front to goal. His a complete forward.

The problem is the players around him being blind and I’ve been saying this all season.

Yesterday showed the perfect case on point. Around the 57 minute mark. United broke through on the counter. Bruno had the ball,
Hojlund makes a run in between the two CB and a through ball into space would put him through on goal, given him 20-40 yards to run and boom. Bruno ignores him and passes it wide. You even see the frustration in Hojlund straight after. As his run and movement was for nothing and the best option would have been to play him through.

I remember the scene. It was infuriating because it was so easy to see the through ball. I would have screamed at Bruno if I had made that run for nothing...

Ideally neither he needs to play regularly to develop , bringing another high profile Forward in prime in theory could limit his game time significantly unless they are played together .

What United need to do is bring another striker who is still in his prime but isn't exactly high profile name who wouldn't mind getting rotated with Hojlund .

Who fits that bill is the question?

said it multiple times in this thread but he’s got everything. Our attackers are absolutely trash at finding him - yesterday he made multiple great runs in between defenders and the simplest ball would have slipped him through on goal and yet we always went wide for no reason. It’s like they can’t look in a straight line sometimes!

Still worry about his fitness over 90 minutes. He had Dawson on toast for the first hour or so, but then when he started to fade you could see Dawson start to get comfortable with him. I look forward to him working out how to get through 90 minutes.

He'll learn how to start conserving energy with experience. Always remember when we used to come up against Didier Drogba back in the day, and he'd be almost strolling around one minute, and then comes alive in the blink of an eye. Suarez did the same thing. It's about choosing your moments.

One interesting thing about him is that his upper torso is quite long relative to his legs, so it makes him a bit more agile than he should be for his height, with a lower centre of gravity.

I noticed in the post match interview that he's taller than Rio, but doesn't look it on the pitch. He looks more like 6'1 or 6'2

It was clear even when he wasn't scoring that hojlund is a great talent. Hes fast, very strong with a great attitude and very good hold up play for a 20 year old leading the line. Goals will keep increasing from here hopefully he gave dawson an awful time last night, who is a very experienced very physical PL defender

I played as a defender and I think he'd be a handful to mark as once he gets his body in front of you, you won't get around him.

I think we'll see his real potential next season. He's probably still adjusting to PL pace and physicality.

He can be as good as prime Cavani in the future. There are lot of similar aspects between the two.

I’m not worried about this guy making it at all, to me it’s plain to see he has all the ingredients to be a top striker, can’t wait to see him progress.

With this lad, Mainoo , and the new regime currently unfolding I’m excited for the future for the first time in a long time.

Yup. Exactly my thoughts. You can tell he really thinks hard about the game. Some great observations. Will make a class pundit in 2043!
You’ll be long gone by then Gen-Xer

I hope ETH singles out that moment and shows the team a clip and says “in this situation you play through the middle”

Give him the chances that his runs create. He might not even have scored but the more he gets the more likely he will become prolific over time.

Dawson is a cnut, always leaving a bit on, roughing them up and generally being a cynical so and so, but he knows how to handle a big centre forward. He did this to Haaland too, when Wolves beat City earlier in the season, Haaland didn't want to know about it.

Besides the obvious football part, i think his mentality and intelligence are going to get him places. Will make the right decisions on and off the pitch and seems very confident and level headed. Something a certain MBE on our left wing lacks, while having loads of talent.

His build-up play against Wolves was absolutely superb. This kid is very talented and he is driven. I have no doubts that he will be a very good striker for us.

he needs someone experienced for me. Hojlund is the long term striker for the club (hopefully he makes the position his). He just needs an experienced striker to learn from and to take the pressure off Hojlund. A 19 year old kid can not be under the pressure of being the immediate answer to all our final third issues. He can be helped by a more experienced striker to become one in due course.

It's still essential, especially if we get into some kind of european schedule. The fixture list for multiple competitions is heavy. The ideal competition and forward cover would be MG. But he is almost certainly going to be sold.
A 30yo + striker is now also not a bad idea; if Hoj is playing the majority of games.

He's about to turn 21

What's up with his stats at the top of this thread, he should be on 9 goals and 2 assists, but it only says 5 goals.

It's incredible how ETH manages to build a team with so many promising players like Hojlund and Mainoo. Totally awesome!

Yeah, not to say that dominating dawson is any test of greatness but it's a good type of test for physicality and coming up against experienced defenders
He did great for a 20 year old. I think he's really coming into his own now

Yeah, he's showing he can handle himself physically after 6 months, which is a good sign. Ideally he will grow into that role, turn the tables and start bullying defenders. Have really missed having a good physical presence up top.

Ffs.. he's nearly finished. Get rid.

The exciting thing about Hojlund is that at various times he's shown a bit of everything. From his very first appearance against Arsenal you could see his pace and strength to worry defenders, which I personally think will only get better over the next few years.

But against Wolves he showed some excellent ability to just drop into a space and provide for team mates and he also showed good desire and drive in the box to get a strikers goal.

The issue is he's young and inconsistent, sometimes he brings one aspect of his game or another and doesn't bring it together. That's the challenge for the coaches.

Yeah, he's got 9 goals in 23 appearances. Which is pretty decent. Even when he was getting hammered by people more obsessed with goal stats his general play and ability to bring his team mates into play has looked excellent.

Ya, I was never worried about him, and still am not. Obviously players can end up disappointing but all things pointing in the right direction for Hojlund to become a top player for us

For those asking i'd definitely suggest we should look for a more experienced forward upwards of 29 or even 30 to sit alongside Hojlund and take the pressure off, someone who won't necessarily mind sharing the burden and can be somewhat of a mentor for the lad. I think it would be a mistake to sign a forward as young as Hojlund who both need to play in order to further their development, if in a couple of seasons Hojlund hasn't improved and doesn't show the ability to be our longterm answer then we should invest in another young forward. For me it would be a waste of money to do so now when we have a promising one already.

I watched his interview on TNT following the game and I’m really impressed with his personality. It can’t be easy being expected to carry the burden of being United’s striker at 20 years old but he has the perfect attitude. Ambitious, determined but humble without any hint of getting carried away. I liked hearing that he is challenging those around him to give him better service but also accepting that they will challenge him back if he’s not getting on the end of things. It sounds like a healthy tension to have between teammates.

Delighted to have him, Kobbie and Garnacho in our ranks.

There were a couple moments like that where it looked on and the ball wasn‘t played. The same thing happens with crosses.

We are not getting the most out of Hojlund.

Any suggestions at all?

Happy birthday Hojlund!! Really hope he scores today. That would be special on his birthday at OT

Love him. What a warrior. In 2 or 3 seasons this team will be clearing up trophies. Exciting times. Trust the process.
