Cole had Cantona to play alongside when he joined us, Hojlund has Mctominay. Its no surprise he looks stifled like you say.

I don’t ever remember Cole and Cantona being a telepathic amazing partnership and I lived it. He had more joy with Beardsley. Don’t just say things because they sound good mate.

Jermain Defoe never had a Paul Scholes but he managed to score goals wherever he went. He’d have more than Zero EPL goals if he was playing for us right now too.

I agree, we are back to system players who need a perfect machine place for them to impress. We should not have spent £70m on an unproven prospect if he needed lots of things to perform. Frankly its currently looking like another stupid Arnold and Murtough waste of money.

It is, we could all see you don’t spend £70m on an unproven striker to lead the line for an F’ing team that has just got back into UCL and are pushing on to be title challengers. The clear planning is always a joke.

The whole football world knows United are desperate and rich...sad truth is the club isn't even even rich anymore, but when you boast you can do things no other club can in the transfer market then you are going to get quoted fees that are hugely inflated.

Hojlund could be a decent playter, but the environment he finds himself in isn't one which is great for growth and the pressure will only increase with every match. But the blame as always is firmly on the owners and their awful running of the club.

That’s the point you are missing. He’s first touch stayed the same. He just got to the level of his new teammates. It wasn’t like he didn’t come here and not deliver. The most goals scored in a game for us is 5 and he holds that record

Berbatov scored 5 in 1 game for us as well

Get Toney in and let this guy practice on the training field. Was a criminal decision to make him our number 1. He’s now doubting himself.

I cant see how signing a Striker that hasnt played or trained in months for a daft fee is going to help us, I still cant understand why we didnt go for Marcus Thuram who was available free or Youssoufa Moukoko who would probably have been a lot cheaper that Hojlund.

I'm not. Cantona didn't rate Cole originally and it sometimes felt like he refused to pass to him. That doesn't change the fact that he came into a side with far superior players.

Probably right on Defoe.

I would agree with you if that’s how we played, we play deep and are expecting Hojlund to get the ball, use his frame to hold off stronger CBs than he’s used to then get into the box hoping for a cross. (Which never comes). We are playing off him not into him.
Cole was fantastic for us, but he had great fullbacks crossing (Irwin was superb at supporting the attack), Giggs, Beckham, Scholes etc to create chances which came by the bucket load for Cole and co.
in the league Hojlund looks stifled at the moment, we are doing little it seems to help him get this monkey off his back. Whilst in the CL were chances are more available we saw what potential he has. I think he’s got a very high ceiling but we need to support him more and a backup striker to give him time out or to play alongside him wouldn’t go amiss!
I somewhat disagree with this. There are actually a lot of crosses when we get into the final 3rd, we’re 4th in the PL: https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/clubs/total_cross

The issues are quality but also Hojlund frequently makes the wrong run, arrives too late or fails to get a good connection on the ball. He isn’t an instinctive finisher. It’s interesting, because if memory serves, Chicharito came overfrom the fecking Mexican league and immediately started banging in goals. Yes, he had better service, but SAF was very good at getting his wingers and strikers on the same page. ETH has failed to install a style and attacking patterns of play.

5 goals in 21 appearances, roughly 16 90min sessions. It’s not alarming… yet. But, wow, 75m for a striker that doesn’t score in the league is a hard pill to swallow.

We are playing a poacher with inverted wingers who are more interested in scoring than passing in the box. Then we lack creativity of Eriksen in the midfield, instead we have Bruno, who these days is more interested in wayward crossing than opening up defenses.

I am not saying Hojlund is world class but there is benefit of doubt.

Tumbleweeds blow across the goal more often than crosses from our wingers. He's dying up there.

What
I’d think most people would disagree, he became a more all rounded striker at United, he had to because of how we played.
Nonsense.

Firstly we need some context how much I did watch Cole.

During a war in my country, England gave us all TV rights for their sport for free, also we got Seria A, Bundes Liga, Formula 1, Moto GP, Touring Cars ect ect. My dad made me small room in our halway, beacuse it was safest ( in the middle of house) and closest to bathroom (run and hide in bathub when bombs hits) and I would sit there and watch football all day long. We had all games on TV all the time. Live and on replay. All that stuff saved us from insanity. I dont remmeber so much about war, but I remember where I was when Senna died or when Cantona scored that goal vs Liverpool.

Now back to Cole. Imho, he was more electric, better finisher and more composet in front of the goal for the Goerdies.
I don't say he was bad for us, but it took him some time to hit ground running with us, and he declined fast. And now I would kill for the half Cole. We were spoiled.

Cole improved after Cantona retired. Cantina was very demanding and was expressively / visibly annoyed with the chances Cole missed, quite a few laid on a plate for him by Cantona. Cole was visibly upset by this. He had a tough spell. But he got used to the pressure and became a better player.

He scored for fun at Newcastle but missed plenty there as well - it didn’t weigh heavy on him though. For most players, it is a different world playing for United than pretty much anywhere. There is a long list of good players who just couldn’t do it here. Cole looked like he might be one of them but he got through it and was really good for us.

Tottaly agree with you. Manchester United shirt always had some "weight".

He had slow start, but he found his feet at the end and ge got perfect partner in Yorke.

And in those years, everyone was demanding not just Cantona. Alex, demanded all from their players. I was in ave when he sold Ince, but man did know his business.
If he got Zanetti (tractor) and Batistuta when he wanted them, we would be different beast in Europe.

Yeah, prime Cole and Yorke was a joy to behold.

There were a few glimmers of hope that Rashford and Hojlund might develop something. I don’t know what happened to that but there’s still time.

They don't have it. United just gave too much for him.
Luka Modric, was doing his time in Bosnian league. He was loaned to that league and he had some special skills. You can tell he had it.

Google, stadions in Bosnia. They are potato fields.

United had the chance to sign Jarrod Bowen. They could have signed højlund and Bowen. Oh Well...

Modric is one of the best to ever play the game, of course. I’ll settle for some of our forwards passing it to each other and scoring a few goals between them.

I think he should hopefully score v league one Wigan or he really is having a mare - of course not just down to him.

To be honest though I could see him going the whole season without scoring again. We attack like prime crap and he is not ready, will he ever be, to frequently create goals for himself out of nothing.

Unfortunately I don't see him as natural finisher myself.

Watch him score v West Ham now…

Yeah.
I lowered my standards, I just want some good and coherent football, it's not that much to ask.

Since LVG, we are just lump it long and pray for the best. My all hope is in Jim and that he know what is doing.

Will he score against West Ham? Won't be easy, West Ham will park the bus tomorrow.

He also has zero assists. 13 PL games, zero goals and zero assists. It's a terrible start.

He’s getting quite a pasting on here. I know he’s got nothing to show for the effort he’s putting in but I think he contributes a lot. He must be praying for the proverbial goal that goes in off his backside. A few players have had droughts when they started here (some never recovered until they moved on). He’s just got to keep fighting and believe that it will start happening for him.

Having said that, we need a goalscorer (feck knows who) to come in and help the team, help Rasmus, take some of the load. Even Rashford who scored easily last year is playing like a dud. We can’t seem to buy a goal.

So far a bit reminiscent of Depay in the sense that he seems to be able to do it in Europe but not domestically, and perhaps the pressure is getting to him a bit and he's not ready for it. I think he's a better striker than Depay though so I'm pretty confident he'll get there in time.

It’s the caf. Weghorst also was the next saviour. It’s almost like the Scouse-Boom-Bust circle but where one put all their hope into a new striker after spending big in the summer only to be be mad half a year later when “realizing” everything. Next year the cycle continues with a new striker that the caf puts all their new hope into calling them “the next ____”. Repeat cycle. Falcao, Cavani, Lukaku, Ighalo, Weghorst.. Højlund up next

He needs a performance, a goal would be great but I need to see some signs that his game can progress moving forward. Am at the stage were I am really not sure what his strengths are other than being a unit who can shift.

He is really not good, whether it is at the moment, or in general(but he is showed dwcent form in CL, so can't really say it's lack of quality), but he shouldn't be a starter for us. Second to every ball, very weak positioning on headers, weak attacking positioning, he is simply not showing any quality at the moment.

Not sure what happened here, He is not great technically but had decent pace and was showing some ability to fight for the ball earlier in the season. Looks slow, looses every battle with the CB and even work rate is not there. Is he injured or not 100% fit?

Can't figure out if he's just in poor form or is seriously struggling with the league. He's shown his talent in Europe.
