Rashford | Villa | Loan with option to buy

Yes, saw this info after the loan was confirmed. That’s probably about right, considering his form the last 18 moths or so. I actually think he’ll do quite well there but we’ll soon see.
The option isn't great for us, there's no angle we benefit from it.

But I suppose it was a demand of Villa's, a bargaining tool to have them pay the majority of his wages

This is very wholesome

Not sure it is.

Rooney mentioned him, Marcus, training near parents watching youth games. Some of it was to do with our facilities currently Roo ey said, but overall Rooney wasn't happy about it and seemed to think it was embarrassing

Yes, I agree we’d like more than that (should he do well, which is the only case they’ll want a permanent deal, so I get the ‘no win’ situation). There is no way we could ask for much more than that, though. His form and the public manner in which this has played out with him not in the squad every week, him setting up an interview as soon as he was dropped, Amorim saying he’d rather have the 63 year old coach on the bench etc. all ensured that.

You're forgetting his wages. If we sell him and he isn't happy to take a sizeable haircut on his wages then hes never going to sell for that much. £325k/week is absolutely world class wages and Rashford is not and has never been worth that sort of money. The only way clubs would pay him that much is if they think they are saving on the transfer fee. Thats why free agents often get much higher pay than players sold by their clubs.

The more disparity between the wages you are paying a player and their ability, the more you have to eat that in the transfer fee if you want them to leave. Usually. Obviously the player can take a pay cut to leave and you can perhaps get a better price for them. .

He looks like a bloated 40 year old Uncle.

This ‘one of us’ sentiment is bollocks, he’s living the dream in what should be the prime of his career and can’t be arsed. I only hope he does well so we get a proper fee for him, once he’s officially not a United player I don’t give a feck about him.

I wasn't talking about the amount, just the mere fact an option never benefits the loaning out/selling club

Yeah I really didn't understand where Rooney was coming from on that, he seemed to explain it really badly and (as is so often the case on the Overlap) it wasn't really picked apart. It didn't help that Keano was interrupting every three seconds either.

Lose lose situation….

If he plays well he’ll be accused of downing tools at Utd

If he plays shite for he’ll be regarded as overpaid crap

8th place is worth millions though. If you're gonna do it, there needs to be some movement transfer or academy-wise. Else we are just freefalling, we are in relegation form right now.

Not that lucrative though right? The big difference financially would be to play in CL, which we can only do from EL this time. And I doubt Rashford would make that much difference anyways. In recent years, he has been a player who does well when the team is doing well and vice-versa.

Thought it was badly edited.

Did leave me wondering if Rooney said a lot more which they felt couldn't stay in.

I think the implication with Rooney was him being a role model/example in a negative sense, having been exiled to train alone. Rooney, Keane etc, would expect Markus to feel mortified by such a circumstance (and want to do his lonely run out of the view of visitors); it seems to be his indifference as much as his lack of application that horrified the old pros.

You could be right.

As I said above the show felt badly edited to me. Rooney seemed to want to go into it more and maybe he did and it was edited out.

He seemed to know a lot more to the situation than we have information about. His whole 2 years ago I told him to leave then adding but not now.

Initially I assumed it was behind the scenes club stuff but am wondering if it was in fact behind the scenes Marcus stuff

Looks like he just woke up.

Seeing these announcement photos, he looks like he's aged a decade in the last year.

Can't shake the feeling that something's going on with him. Hope for his sake he's able to put it behind him, and get back to performing at a decent level.

Rashford is a cautionary tale about handing out long big money contracts. Similar to us with Raheem and Chilwell.

If you then want to shift them you're probably stuffed. No one else will pay them 300k a week so they end up on loan then running their contracts down.

Saw his Villa interview on youtube. Didn't really look chuffed to be there with the usual PR questions. I think he always wanted to stay at United but the club wanted rid of him

Getting 40m for him would be class, I hope he tears shit up there for the rest of the season.

"I was lucky to have a few clubs approach me'.

Strange thing to say. That's a man who is embarrassed the big boys weren't desperate to bring him in.

I mean he's going to a club in a far better situation than United and still in the champions league, I don't think he minds too much ....

Doesn't have the ability or mentality to make this work. I'm just in it to watch Rashford FC squirm and try to make new excuses as to why that's the case. He'll be retired by 30.

You are joking… I mean, had Villa put that pic out already??
I don't understand?? That SamC_Reports guy was samc365 before and was well known for team leaks. Him putting out that Rashford pic as worldwide exclusive most definitely means his source for team leaks was Rashford all the time.

We cancelled our staff Christmas Party ffs. Every penny counts seemingly at the moment.

On Rashford, a loan with only an option buy seems an odd decision tbh. Given Villa have just received 70 million pounds from the Saudi team, surely a permanent transfer was possible even with PSR/FFP regulations

It just feels like, this saga will just return in the summer if Villa don't qualify for the Champions League and have to make some cutbacks. Maybe a straight swap for Watkins would be a decent shout? That way, both clubs can bring in addition without it costing anything.

He's a cautionary tale about expecting lads in their early 20s to lead a front line for a big football team.

Hopefully this will be the last mouthpiece article about how it's someone else's fault.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cqld41124n3o

In public, Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim tried to counter the view that he wanted to jettison Rashford.

But United insiders believe the former Sporting boss felt it would be better for everyone if the forward was no longer around.

Even towards the back end of last week, there was still hopeful talk of a resolution on Rashford's part. Now the reality is sinking in. Amorim has got his way.

What has been very difficult to pinpoint, even though Amorim has given some frank interviews, is the detailed reasoning why the coach was so willing to let him leave.

It can be both his fault and other factors
That's very true. Maybe someone should tell Marcus - sorry, I mean whoever the club insider is that keeps feeding journalists these stories about how he's done nothing really wrong and it's all someone else's fault.

It can be both his fault and other factors
Or you know, he has stopped giving a feck for a long time? When every manager you have played under have had issues with you, then maybe it's just you who is the problem.

It was a conversation with Ruben Amorim at the start of December that goes some way to explaining why Marcus Rashford has been absent from the Manchester United side for nearly two months and why he is close to leaving the club.

United had just beaten Everton 4-0, with Rashford scoring two of the goals in a vibrant display on Sunday, December 1. But after that game, Amorim heard the forward had been out in Manchester on the Friday night, November 29, less than 48 hours before Everton’s visit to Old Trafford.

The United head coach does not want his players in bars so close to games and asked Rashford about his movements. The England international assured Amorim he had been misinformed about a late night.

Since their talk after the Everton game, Amorim has given Rashford 118 minutes of football out of a possible 1,350.

He played the final half-hour at Arsenal and in the following match at home to Nottingham Forest, then started against Viktoria Plzen, although Amorim substituted him in the 56th minute after a poor performance.

Two days later, on Saturday, December 14, in the final training session before facing Manchester City the following afternoon, Rashford put in a lacklustre display at United’s Carrington base, according to multiple sources, some of whom said he appeared fatigued.

Claims circulated that Rashford had gone out the night before — on the Friday, 48 hours before the game with accounts reaching people at United. This, however, is strenuously denied by people close to the player. Rashford also feels he does not behave differently from other Premier League footballers but faces much more scrutiny over his social life.

Amorim makes his decisions based on what he sees with his own eyes, in complete consideration of all aspects, and when United’s line-up and squad for the derby at the Etihad Stadium was posted in the team WhatsApp group that Saturday evening, it was clear to the players that their new head coach had taken strong action in a bid to jolt Rashford.

I question if Amorim and his system are good enough for us and for where we want to be but not on how he handled this situation. Amorim left the door open for him until the end and always said if Rashford changed his ways he will be back. He chose to leave rather than work hard at staying his childhood club who he apparently holds very close to his heart.

He's gone.... We don't need to vilify him. We are better than that right? All I wanted to say is that it can be both

@saik I agree this is not an Amorim issue

I just meant it's wholesome that a 14 year old kid made a nice comment being grateful that a big name player spent time practicing penalties with him.

Relax

Sorry if it came across wrong fella. I just thought it was a talking point that it was even as wrong/embarrassing by someone like the Roonster.

I suppose it is how you look at it. Personally if I hadn't heard the Rooney bit I would say it was wholesome and really good that our pro's spent that kind of time with the kids.

I could also be wrong and this but wasn't what Rooney was specifically referring to. However he made a lot about Marcus being alone practicing near kids and parents.
