Rashford | Villa | Loan with option to buy

Sancho goes on loan from United to Chelsea and is now doing better. If Antony and Rashford are going to be great, when they are out on loan, is this then an indication that the problem does not necessarily lie ONLY with the players?

Let’s wait and see what happens. Sancho is doing ok but nothing to suggest it was a mistake to look to sell (albeit Chelsea might potentially be getting a decent deal with the obligation to buy) and Antony has played one match.

Wow just seen his interview.

No where near as assured (contrived?) as his recent ones whilst with us. Seemed to stutter and lose focus. Distracted spring to mind

Unless he is having a change of image, as in growing hair to get braids or something, looked messy. Face looks bloated and puffy.

Weight of the world on his shoulders.
On the roids maybe

Rashford suits the Villa kit well. Just shocking how he is going to be playing in the Champions League again after the past two abysmal seasons.

Good luck, Marcus. Make sure you convince Villa to make the deal permanent.

Given the state of this club, it's probably a good thing that there's a rule that players out on loan can't play against their parent club, because if that rule didn't exist, I think it'd be written in the stars that on the final day of the season, Marcus Rashford would score the goal at Old Trafford that got United relegated.

Yep...I think everyone involved is to blame here.

Rashford for, for whatever reason, giving up at the end and stop trying or being professional enough. Unforgiveable as a local lad and on such huge wages.

The club for not managing him proberly, burning him out at a young age while making him the face of the club which didnt quite match his ability at all. And giving him this ridiculous contract, which we cant pay anymore now because of a decade of missmanagement.

And also the Fanbase imo. A lot will disagree with me here. But a lot of fans were constantly at his back after one or two bad performances from the very beginning because everyone expected him to become CR7 Level. After it became clear he will not be able to perform at such levels it turned toxic quite often. It clearly affected him in the longterm and I'm sure was a reason why he downed tools with us at the end.

Our club has been (and currently still is) an absolute mess and this Story is highlighting that. I wish him all the best, i hope he finds joy again for the beautiful game at Aston Villa and helps us free up money in the summer which we hopefully will invest wisely.
Christ, where to start…. Everyone didn’t expect him to become cr7 and abandon him when he didn’t achieve that level. Who the feck put that into your head? His levels were fine as they were. The fans became angry when they are struggling with increasing prices all over and particularly the £66 fiasco, while he flaunts his ridiculous wealth, while putting near zero effort in. We’ll forgive loss of form but never lack of effort. If anything, the fans have been too lenient with him. If it was Madrid, they’d have got the white hankies out long ago. That’s just the fans… as for the club; I’d agree they’ve indulged him to a fault but really, poor little waif.

His comment that he is just there for a short time implies he is using them as a platform for better options. Dream on, lad.

He looks ill to me? Something doesn’t seem quite right in those photos.
I know what you mean; but I think he's just nervous and possibly very self-conscious. Physically he looks fine in the interview.

Wish him well. A shame it ended so badly but I think the people that surround him didn't give him the best advice possible.

there’s a chance this might work out for him. apparently he was out celebrating the move yesterday and called it a night early, at 2:00am, saying he didn’t want emery to smell the alcohol on him, when he turned up to training at 11:30am.

Huh? If Sancho's output had been the same for Utd this season as it's been for Chelsea, fans would be fuming. He's having an incredibly poor season by his hype pre-Utd transfer and it's only being covered up by the fact they have loads of options in attack/Palmer to cover their frailties.

Antony is playing for Betis - any good season has to be put in context that he's playing in a zero pressure environment. Rashford is the only one that could indicate the problem being in-part cultural at the club. I expect the Gabby Agbonlahor 2.0 regen to be a more likely outcome.

Really sad to see him leave and not become the player we thought he could at this club. People have short memories, but during the boring times under VG he was the only one giving us hope. Then he had couple of very good seasons under Ole and an excellent one under ETH too. Too bad he couldn't follow them up and had one or the other issue after each big season. Scoring so many goals as wide forward is not an easy task and he did it in multiple seasons carrying the weight of Manchester United on his shoulders. That deserves a lot of praise.

I'll always wish him well. Hope he is able to get his career on track again and finds himself a place in the England squad for the next World cup.

From his interview you can tell that he has no intention of staying past the initial loan. He was keen to stress that he's only here for a short period of time in his first interview. This delusional fecker is going to come back here thinking that Barca or Milan will want him come summer. ffs.
I mean it's probably not wrong. If he plays well enough to convince Villa to fork out the £40m of the buy option, he'll likely have been good enough to draw genuine interest from bigger clubs. If not, Villa won't trigger the buy option

Moving to a half decent team instead of giving enough of a shit to put a bit of effort in for you childhood long term club, that you allegedly love, makes sense.

I know I'd struggle to give a shit for only 375,000 quid a week.

No big club will touch him with the wages that he's on.

Thought so too, puffy face and the eyes look funny. But he looks normal in the video, so idk about that.

As for the move, will be very interesting. They've got a such a good team and so much talent in the attacking positions, plus Emery is someone that demands a lot from players, let's see how he gets accustomed to that.

Hopefully he wants the transfer badly enough that he engages his contract negotiation form thus tricking Villa into exercising their buy option.

I think he's depressed that Villa was his best offer. The ass kissing team he's surrounded himself with had him believing Barca or PSG.

His own words "obviously it's only short term I'm here" sounds like he has no intentions of joining them permanently if he can help it.

No, buy options are tied to pre-contracts. Hypothetically, if Villa decide to ignore what he wants and trigger the buy option, there's nothing he can do about it. They don't need his agreement, it's just stupid to sign a player who doesn't want to play for you. That said, if there's a third club willing to sign him and go over the £40m fee, Villa can trigger the option and then sell him
Are you sure about that? I wouldn't have thought that was the case, but I could be wrong. If that is the case then all the contract decisions (base wage, bonuses, contract length, possible release clause, etc) would all have to be agreed at the start of the loan, which seems unlikely to me.

The "obviously" will make him popular with the villa fans! - if he doesn't get a few quick goals he will wilt. His eyes looked very flat and disengaged apart from when talking about knowing Mings and Watkins.

Yes, that is how it works. Romano reported a 3 and a half year (pre)contract with Villa

He's almost certainly already agreed a paycut with Villa, and anyways, if nobody matches his United wages, what would his options be? Unless he plans to go back to United to not play?

i mean, other than the fact he has the self-awareness of a fence post, how hard is it to say “i’m focused on my football and helping villa achieve their goals for the rest of the season,” rather than “welp, i’m only here for a short while.”

pretty obvious how it’s going to go. he thought he was bigger than united, so feck knows how he’s going to treat villa.

Did he really say that? What a bellend!

Where the feck is the punchline/innuendo?

Well if that 80 mil offer from psg was true it would have given us 160 million to sign a striker, right? Since rashford came from the academy.

We should have done it

The guy is completely delusional.

I'd love to see the likes of PSG come in for him though. He'd have to do well at Villa for that to be the case and that'd mean a much larger fee for us.

To be honest, just looking at his whole demeaner recently, he's finally become exactly like his mentor Lingard.

100% agree.. hopefully they overpay for him, like £60-70m. Would help us out tremendously

Also agree that he's starting to remind me of Lingard, specially the situation he is in and how he thinks he can do better(like Lingard at WH).

PSG just signed Khava and have Barcola who can play on the left. They have no space for him.

Anyway, I wish Rashford the best. I think people mocking his appearance are way out of line.

He's better than Raphinha, Lewandowski and Lamal, Flick must be livid they couldn't get him this January.
