Rashford | Villa | Loan with option to buy

Do you guys genuinely think he can turn it around there? I haven't watched too much of him recently (I suppose neither have you guys) but was there any signs of life at all before Ruben gave him the boot?

Curious to see when the NY Knicks play again. If he's off to the USA for that before he starts for Villa...

The fact that this is even happening says so much about the state of the club right now.

Loved him once and then another time but now can’t wait for him to leave.
Jog on mate and don’t buy a return ticket back then Manchester

Now we all know where this dude got all his team news leaks from.

If I remember correctly, before he was SamC_reports he was samC365 or something and always got team leaks before games. He was pretty well known in FPL twitter circles who hang around twitter before FPL deadlines for team leaks. I don't know when he got affiliated with the United Stand but him tweeting that picture as worldwide exclusive confirms to me that Rashford was his source for the team leaks over the years.
Just so people don't forget it, he pretty much confirmed he was behind the team leaks which for me which is very sad seeing as he was a local lad and all. Unprofessional as feck with all this team leaks, going out before games and calling in sick next day and the ambling about on the pitch. He has let himself down but more importantly he has let all the fans down who constantly tried to back him because he was an academy product.

Nah. I think for whatever/various reasons his career has sort of flatlined. I think he got too much money too quickly with his age versus the money we gave him. Seems to have lost all form and hunger. Already much declined from the player he was. He was really good at one point.

Dont see him turning it round at Villa. He reminds me of Dele Alli a bit. The way he has gone from an extremely good player to looking incapable in his mid 20’s. Moved on to Everton where the decline continued. His heads gone, his hungers gone.

He lost me totally when he played like a pub team player for months on end and had a pathetic stats tally, wouldn't even run or jump for aerial balls etc then turned round and played victim because some fans who earn what he earns a week per decade said he was shit on social media. Mentally fragile.

He’s one of a few players of highly questionable ability, form, fitness, attitude and injury record who have been here for far too long through far too many managers - i’d add Shaw, Lindelof and Dalot to that list too. Its one thing having ETH’s dregs left here but when you’ve got players who werent up to it under Mourinho, Ole, Ragnick, ETH and now Amorim still stinking the place out its beyond a joke.

I can't see any mention of a loan fee at all - which pretty much every loan between top flight clubs involves (and we always seem to have been charged one for our loan signings - and no doubt will be if we sign a loan tomorrow).

I assume that's because Villa's contribution to his wages are higher than expected. But the lack of a loan fee of a good few millions that you'd normally expect in a deal like this needs taking into account when praising the negotiations of the wages contribution.

Basically we've given him to them free for the rest of the season, and just negotiated that they'll take over most - but not all - of his wages. So there'll be no actual money coming in from the Rashford loan deal in terms of a decent loan fee, and still some going out on part of his wages - so we'll still be making a loss after offloading a player, just reduced the amount of that loss rather than making any money out of a player departure.

We've really got to hope that they opt to make that transfer permanent. At the moment it's like giving a player away free but negotiating a big sell on clause and just hoping, fingers crossed, that you get some money from the deal further down the line because the initial deal solely benefits the other team.

I think we can make any player look dogshit within a few weeks of joining and so the opposite is also possible.

I'm always in favour of a loan before selling for this reason. Their value can only go up.

Shows his level though. People genuinely thought we could sell him to PSG for £80m last summer. Cant even command a loan fee from a mid table premier league side.

It all depends on how much was 'physical decline' and how much was mentally clocking out for whatever reason.

If it's the former, then you'd think he'd continue to struggle anywhere. If it's the latter, then it depends on the reason why he mentally clocked out here. If it's to do with overall attitude, lifestyle and priorities, etc, then, again, those will probably rear their head wherever he goes. If it was an ongoing problem he had with the club, and a change of environment will change that mental process and see an increase in effort and desire, then he's likely to perform much better for as long as that change of attitude lasts.

His purple patches have never lasted too long here - even before the dramatic decline he was prone to inconsistency. Just not as low lows, and for as long, as we've witnessed in recent years.

So it's anyone's guess really. My guess, for what it's worth, would be he'll put in more effort in his short loan spell - but wherever he ends up permanently, his form will continue to be patchy and examples of off field issues / questionable effort will occur again either side of some purple patches.

He looks very troubled in them signing pictures, very strange expression.

Guess he didn't expect this as the new experience.

What has he done to his face? He seems 37, not 27.

To be fair he always seems to look way worse in contract signing photos for some reason, the ones in 2023 he looked odd too.

He deffo looks like he could do with a trip to the barbers and a good night’s though, shades of Homer Simpson’s yearbook photo in the latest pics.

Monchi looks like Ben Kingsley in Sexy Beast in that photo.

I hope he turns this £40m option to buy opportunity YES

He will turn it back on as he now has some motivation, he will want to show what we have let go.. yes his ego is that big.

He will be decent for a few months, maybe the rest of the season but will go back to his ways soon enough.

I am so glad he has gone, just Luke Shaw left to ship off now.

This was the worst thing I saw in him too, like he just seemed to be half hearted, letting players run by him and like strolling around like Messi does without the ball and the part I was most curious on. If some level of hunger still remained. It would be such a waste to see him go the way of Dele.

I always found his stats baffling. He'd be putting up unplayable numbers at time (I think post Qatar was his best or at least I remember thinking "This dude is turning into Mbappe" but his droughts were huge. Almost reminded me of United themselves under Ole where you'd like be unbeaten for 7 or 8 games and be right on the cusp of looking like a top team, and then inexplicably get hammered by Brighton and fail to win for 7 or 8. I always wondered if his form was tied to the team momentum etc...

Hopefully its the latter and he can sort his shit out cause it would be really good for England to have him back flying and you guys might make a decent little profit for PSR given he's one of your own (which kinda sucks to say, that selling club trained homegrown players is the new PSR meta).

Missed this one sorry. Fair, seems thats spreading to the other club in Manchester now too, so I feel that pain.

He'll play well for the rest of the season but I don't think talent was ever his issue. It was his attitude and not being fully present on the pitch or in training. Leaking team news. Shirking headers and pressing. If any manager can get him doing those things and stopping all the BS they've got a top player for a song

I think there is a decent chance that his body is far more crocked than we know. Hopefully I'm wrong.

If all that it is true then Rashford isn't United through and through. That's nuts tbh. Should hang his head in shame.

Would love some teammates in the next few years to confirm this. Surely if that was going on the whole time someone would've (teammates) leaked something themselves about his shitty antics

Bertie mentioned something similar about him being physically done. That would be a tragedy at his age and you'd have to wonder how it happened unless there's some health issue we don't know about. He had a big injury a couple of years back I think. Could that have played a part?

I think it's a combination of his various back injuries, being overplayed through them and then not looking after his body properly.

I don't know that it's catastrophic in normal terms and I'm not doctor but I think for a player who relies so much on fast twitch movements it is a huge issue.

One of those players you have no fecking clue how he is going to kick on. Good luck either way, best scenario is he smashes it and they take the buy option, as I dont see him being here after

That's fair. Feel like he's not a player who can adapt his game to issues with that either like say Aguero did. His stature gives more Fernando Torres vibes.

Glad we've finally moved him on, hopefully permanently. In retrospect, he was a good winger when on form for us but in reality was below the level of the likes of Nani and Valencia. Not really too concerned with how he performs moving forward apart from hoping he does enough for Villa to buy him. All that matters is that in his roughly 10 years in the first team he had a couple good seasons, a couple frustrating seasons and a decent amount of poor seasons. He just never was that player that people/we thought he would become.

Crazy to think he's 2 years younger than Ollie Watkins.
Thats mad, I always picture Watkens as 25 though for lord knows what reason. And Rashfords been around for what feels like forever (since he tortured Martin DeMechelis in the derby).

I wonder if it was a case of too much football too young. 50 games a season or so since he's 17. Maybe the intensity of modern football is seeing more Rooney style fall offs before their 30 for players who don't live a Ronaldo type lifestyle (the healthy Ronaldo).

Will be weird seeing him there. Honestly I'm a bit bitter at him for how things went th last few years but I try to remind myself he is human after all and there's external factors in life that may have caused his lack of effort or focus.

It's in everyone's best interest to see him do well, unless it's directly at our expense.

Yeah it is a tough one. I used to love him so much and it is hard to take how bad it went.

Now we know what he really is worth. In real numbers.

His image - trash level.

His fee - 0 million

His wages - 180k week

His memories - still very nice

His fanboys - still delusional

Interesting times ahead.
