Ralf Rangnick | Austria manager

There were some of us who said he was a good football man and was the progressive thinker we needed . Should still be our DoF imo

He was never our DOF
That was because Ten Hag made it very clear early on that he didn't want him around. He was very dismissive whenever reporters asked about Ralf just after he joined us. I highly doubt Ralf would have allowed us to sign the amount of shite we have under ETH had he been the DoF.

No, he was going to take up a consultant role with the club, which is very different from a director position. I would've liked having him on board, but there was never any point in time where he was going to be a DOF for us.

Consultants advise and provide expertise, but don't have any actual decision-making power.

If we can make excuses for ETH we can admit that he was provided with poundland coaches and a squad that completely checked out and werent capable of playing the football he trains.
i wonder what Ralf could have done with 400m to spend

Firstly, speak for yourself as I and many others are very critical on ETH, and secondly he had an assistant WFH and not much else he's only got himself to blame there....

The players downed tools. Not that I want to defend him, but it’s impossible to judge in the situation the club was in. Everyone had given up on the season.
How do you know players downed tools?

People talking about players but forgetting the shit tactics, the 4222 and the rest of it ..... I'm not doing this again

The whole consultant role was never fully detailed, it was put in place as Rangnick had a 2 year contract in his previous role which he was reluctant to walk away from for a 6 month caretaker role. Hence, we matched the length of the contract he was severing.

Actually a decent manager, players massively to blame really during his interim spell here.
Glad he's doing well with Austria, not sure what non-big manager could do with those egos at United

I put the blame on the upper management that signed Ralf as interim. He doesn't have a big name to demand respect from the dressing room in a very big club like Utd filled with big name players. The same happened before in Madrid when Benitez was the manager.

I mean, it's pretty obvious he's made Austria playing good football and do well, but some people are convinced he is shite because we played shite under him even though he took over what was probably the worst United team in the last 20 years.

All well and good but he was utterly shite here.....
Did he really have a chance? Players decided they didn't fancy his high pressing high intensity stuff and just freelanced it instead. Board didnt want him because he wasn't a yes man and called the club and glazers out for being shit and unambitious. Ragnick is a fantastic football man and a great coach how can you even think he lost a modicum of respect for his work at United? Its like appoint a captain of an airplane that has no engines and then blaming him for it crashing.

Got the Austria team playing well. He's obviously renowned for having a certain playing style and when he has the players it can work.

I never understood why people get so irrationally stroppy about his time here. He was a temporary manager and consultant that was brought into analyse a problem in what was already looking like a nothing season. There were so many player issues and I think it was literally three games in that he decided that he couldn't get these players to press correctly. You had Lingard, Shaw, Rashford, Ronaldo, Greenwood all having problems with form and bad attitudes, Pogba leaving the club at the end of the season, Maguire having the worst season of his career. Was just an absolute mess.

I don't think the players 'downed tools' last season but some of them definitely did that season. His open heart surgery comments and German directness might have annoyed some but it's proven to be quite true.
