Ralf Rangnick | Austria manager

A lesson in sacking or getting rid of a manager without a replacement being lined up.

Smart from Ralf to not accept going to that chaos that is Bayern right now. Good decision.

The chaos didn't prevent us from reaching the semi final of the CL.

Whether it was a good decision we will know in 2 months time.
Having had a look on Austria's group with France, Holland and Poland, I wouldn't be surprised, if they don't reach the knockout stages and Rangnick will be without job in July.

First of all I am for the first time optimistic for the Euros because of how the team played in the last games. Since also the 4 best 3rd placed teams will go to knock out, I think this should be manageble with 3-4 points. Even if we lose all 3 games, Rangnick will also be trusted with the World Cup qualifiers. There is currently such a good feeling, when Austria is playing. I never had this before in the nearly 30 years I am following our National team.

I still do not know why it did not work out at United, but for this Austrian national team he is the best choice.

Wow does he hate bayern or something. You dont see a lot of managers turning down a job from their own country especially when trophies are almost a given

Uli Hoeneß seems extremely difficult to work with looking from the outside.

So rumors going around he has rejected Bayern.

Does anyone know what was his reservation?

It has been official for around a week now.

As for the reason(s) there's not much to go on, only rumor was that he basically wanted to usurp the job of newly appointed sporting director Eberl.

Also during their negotiations Uli Hoeneß made his "I will make myself heard even more in the future again" interview statement. I wouldn't be surprised if that didn't help to convince Rangnick to come to Bayern.

And also my favourite little theory is that Rangnick never actually was open to the move but wanted to take the opportunity to make his old foe Hoeneß look stupid. Which he did.

It's actually been confirmed he rejected them. Officially, he had personal reasons and it had nothing to do with the club although the chain of events with this sudden change of heart smells like Hoeneß' interview put Rangnick off (Hoeneß indirectly said that Rangnick is only their C solution). In the aftermath, Eberl said something along the lines of "sometimes, you're very disappointed that a door was shut before you but then suddenly, another one opens which you wouldn't have dared dreaming of before" so now Sky and co. are speculating on a Guardiola comeback if he wins the EPL with City this year.

If we stick to the somewhat realistic rumours, their search for a manager is proceeding terribly. Reportedly, they contacted Roger Schmidt, Roberto de Zerbi, Unai Emery and Julien Lopetegui but they all declined. For a brief moment, it seemed like Tuchel is open to staying but that was ruled out by Eberl very quickly as well. So right now, there is a very improbable rumour about an astonishingly good signing (Guardiola) and a very high chance they have to make do with a lesser name than the aforementioned.

It's really astonishing how obviously he is undermining his own club. So clear he has become a real liability for the club but he just can't let go and also lacks the self reflection to accept it. Not only in terms of communication. If you've heard how he completely ignores scientific facts in political discussions or how reluctant he is to everything new in general. I mean, this is a man who a few years ago claimed that he has no smartphone or even an email adress. Imagine Tuchel discussing a match with him and bringing up xG as he did in several interviews. Or discussing transfer targets and bringing up advanced data to prove your point. It is crazy to think that after all that happened, he still resides at the top of one of the biggest clubs in world football, making hundreds of millions in revenue annually.

Wouldn't be surprised, if that's what happened. Ralf Rangnick is pretty much the antipode of a Bayern manager as much as Lembke would be it as director of sports.
Even more than Klopp.

Rangnick is good coach but his style wouldn't have suited Bayern possession based football anyway.

They were great, a bit more quality and they would have won that game. I think his style works for international football and if they beat The Netherlands I could see them being the dark horses of the tournament.

I like Rangnick, his team did really well. Lets see whether this impression will be confirmed in the next games but they look really well organized and drilled. Certainly helps to have like two of those stamina monsters in Sabitzer and Laimer in the team but still.

I really like Ralf. He knew what was needed to be done here, even if his performance here wasn't great.

It's said time and time again but the players either have attitude problems or are crap or both.

I guess it helps having a team that will listen, instead of one full of checked out old people and a bunch of dross.

Also thought Austria were really good. Shame they lacked that bit of quality up front. It did make me think what would have happened if Utd had bought into his ideas and methodology entirely. I sure would have loved to have seen a Utd team relentlessly press and hurry the opposition like Austria did this evening.

On paper he was the best interim appointment we could have asked for. High pressing, intense football. If the players had bought in somewhat it would have been a better springboard for Ten Hag. But as Rangnick said, our squad would need open heart surgery to play that style of football. And it needs it again.

Some will still maintain him and ETH are rubbish coaches

I think it should be clear by now it was not the managers that were the problem. Van Gaal, Mourinho, Ralf and ETH are all top coaches.

If you look at who has left since he was in charge and the players disgraced themselves, you can decide yourself who might have been contributing to a toxic atmosphere - if you agree that while the football is poor, the atmosphere feels a bit better now. Personally, I do, since that awful run near the end of the season was as bad as it gets football wise but it still felt as if the players wanted to try at least. As opposed to simply not caring under Rangnick.

Rangnick has done a fantastic job with austria who were aimless and don't have huge quality. They were excellent this evening against arguably the strongest team in europe. Brave and hard working, clearly tactically disciplined.

For me the conduct of our players those months meant i came as close as ever to just giving up following. I can't believe some still blame Rangnick

Not really mourinhos clear was clearly heading downwards when he joined us and that has only continued since. Van goal was past his best and ralf hadn't coached in some time

I'd like to see Ralf get through the groups . He knows what he's doing . He always did .
