Raheem Sterling | Signs for Man City for £49,000,000

First two minutes, he ran around Blind and got a nice ball between him and Jones. I thought here we go, then he disappeared for the whole match. If Sterling doesn't have the 'stamina' to out-stamina Fellaini/Blind then maybe we should take the money now. He is fundamentally a winger who was shoe-horned into playing in the middle/up front this season. Out of all the players I was disappointed in for various reasons, he was top of the list.

To be fair, he was almost used as an out-ball for the majority of the first half. It kind of reminded me of Smalling being out there, in terms of him being passed the ball (often at knee height) completely isolated. Being expected to control the ball and be positive as a man closes him down immediately.

You say he was "shoe-horned into playing in the middle/up front this season" but wasn't he central last season? Effectively playing that bridge between attack and defence, and causing havoc by turning and carrying the ball on the break?

Sorry, but he's being wasted at wing-back. You failed to sort out that right-back slot, and he's suffering for it. Winger is not wing-back. Especially in a game like Sunday's.

You make Blind sound like a complete donkey. Blind was very solid at LWB in the World cup against teams with really top class wide players.

Also its very harsh and reactionary to be so hard on a 20 year old.

Still would like to know who'd pay £50m for Sterling?

Bale will cost £60m max, and is far more proven talent.

City would be in for him at £50m I think. He'd be a massive improvement on Navas, who'd they'd presumably sell for around £15m.

He's massively overrated. Heard somewhere they offered him 150k/wk and he and his agent are apparently holding out for 225. That's laughable.

They need to rebuild a lot though, and can't afford to splash so big on one player, who they don't overly need.

Very much so. A player that is difficult to describe only to say he's unquestionably the most thrilling player to come next from the cantera with limitless potential

Not really. Was shit for Barca B this season and seems lack of footballing brain. And that's not only come from me but Barca followers as well. You have better talents in the 1998 born generation.

Apparently not, hes on around 35 according to most sources, 70 was Liverpool's first offer, then 80, he wanted 'over 100', is what most are reporting which in line with some others isn't unreasonable considering his contribution and potential

I was gonna say: £225k would completely smash Liverpool's wage structure. I find that hard to believe.
I heard he wants to be on the same as Sturridge, at around £125k.

I wonder if Rodgers playing him at wing-back is playing on his mind too, as well as the potential to receive a truckload of money.

Bear in mind that they are already struggling with the home grown quota and Sterling would perfectly fit the bill. Pellegrini recently said:

"Can you get Sterling? Maybe if you go to Liverpool with £100m you can. If I want an English player in the position of Silva who is there? Maybe Rooney, but who else?"

I'm sure at £50m they'd be seriously interested, especially considering in the Summer they spent £42m on an unproven Mangala.

One of the announcers during the game this weekend reported the 150/225 numbers, which I thought were laughably appalling for Sterling. 100 would seem reasonable given his potential.

I heard that too and assumed they were talking dollars for the US audience. Those numbers are consistent with the reports that he wants 150K sterling.

You can't judge anything from the disaster that was Eusebio - not one talent developed under him. The fact that he already debuted under Tata & Lucho and scored says plenty

I think Samper is more of a 'sure thing' as potential talents go but the ceiling on Adama is arguably much higher - whether he ever gets there is something we'll have to wait & see

I was shocked he started there. Is Manquillo useless? Rodgers could also have thrown in another CB to play RCB and let Can play as the RWB in an attempt to deal with Fellaini better.

More long-term (and with hindsight of course), you have to wonder if Liverpool should have brought in a right wing-back on loan in January. Could have been paid for by loaning out or finally selling off Glen Johnson (who will leave for free this summer instead). I presume they'll do so this summer and have this new right back compete with Ibe.

Will have to run down his contract to get a move because I can't see anyone paying big bucks for him. Good player for his age but a bit overrated I feel.

Neil Ashton saying even if Liverpool offer him 180k a week he would turn it down. Crazy figures but not surprising IF true, he's ridiculously talented, he's in a very strong position and he hasn't grown up supporting Liverpool so has no loyalty to them it should be no surprise that he wants a shitload as he'll surely know that he'd likely be better off trophy wise and be on just as good money if he moved elsewhere.

He strikes me as the kind of person that wont show any loyalty to Liverpool (no evidence to support this, just a hunch). But I reckon any of ourselves, City, Chelsea or Arsenal could end up nicking him. My money would be on City.

Hope he has some unreal games towards the end of the season and LFC finish outside the top 4. Force Madrid to splash the cash and make Bale available for us. It would be deja vu for LFC from last season when they sold their best player which directly lead to the strengthening of a rival (Alexis).

Dont think it's because of the money, more because of him playing wing back and him wanting more guarantee of trophies.

If he has ambition he wont stay. It might sound harsh, or like I'm wumming, but its true.

If it's true that he turned down £180k pw then he obviously has a bigger issue with Liverpool/Rodgers. That's a huge offer that won't be beaten elsewhere. If he does leave I can't see it being Arsenal with their wage structure so it would likely be us, Chelsea or City if he wants to remain in England. I'd love him to come to us, great young player who could easily become world class. Plus he is a Unitd fan. Liverpool would rather sell him to the other two I'd imagine so very unlikely to happen.

He's a London kid isn't he? Maybe his agent or representatives have received word of interest from one of the London clubs and are holding out for a move to one of them.

News to me.

It really does sound like he's gone. Probably this summer as they will want a fee. It would be hilarious if he forced a move to us, being a United fan and all that. I wonder if they could smuggle a pigs head into Anfield.

If he's on 35k and rejected 100k or more, I don't think it's about the money. He probably wants to leave, or maybe wait and see if Liverpool get in the CL?

News to me.

He admitted it in an interview with the Liverpool Echo. Said that it changes when you start playing for a club though and the clubs interests are the same as your own or something like that. To be honest it didn't sound very convincing, hardly carved Liverpool into his arm.

Don't think Raheem be at Liverpool next season. As an England fan, though, and someone who wants to see English talent, such as Raheem Sterling to progress, then staying at Liverpool will probably be his best option. I mean, he's one of their main players, gets constant games, he's continuing to grow as a player and the fans love him. If he was to move a City, Arsenal, etc, I'm not sure he'd have that luxury.

John Cross is saying Arsenal have asked about him for the summer. Maybe 40 mill and 2 pound will do the trick this time.

why should he not get games at Arsenal......not saying he will move there mind...

I didn't say he wouldn't get games, just nowhere as much as he does for Liverpool. They've got Walcott, Sanchez, Welbeck, Ozil, Rosicky, Gnabry and Oxlade who can operate in the wide areas. The latter who is arguably just as talented as Raheem, and even he doesn't always get games. At Liverpool; however, Sterling is a guaranteed starter.

:lol::lol:

I hope Liverpool lose him. He's the only player that can take that team to another level when reaching his potential. Honestly speaking, I don't mind a direct swap with Di Maria.

Firstly...he is never coming to United. If he leaves it will be City or Chelsea...but most likely one of the Spanish giants.
He's not nearly good enough for either of them though. And there are already significantly better players in his position.
