If I were a Liverpool supporter, I wouldn't be too worried about it. It seems like it's a money issue rather than him wanting to play elsewhere, so in that sense there's not much to be concerned with.

Once you get him to sign a contract, Liverpool will be in a great position to keep him long term. I don't doubt a lot of clubs would want Raheem Sterling, but not at the price English players go for, when they could probably get someone just as good for a fraction of the price.

Liverpool would be crazy not to give him 150k p/w if they can sign him up for 5 years or so.

Hopefully, they are...and i am not even a massive fan of his

How would people feel if he signed for City or Chelsea? On one hand he'd be an important player for a side in the title race (hopefully with us) but on the other hand he'd have f*cked off Liverpool...

If the money is right (assuming the £50m City bid is true), and we replaced him well, I'd be disappointed, sure, but I'd get over it. I don't think I could forgive a move to Chelsea, though :nono:

£50 million is a hell of a lot for the kid, but he's probably the best young talent in the world right now.

If you sell him, maybe Ibe can take his place, dont think he is far off Sterling just like Markovic he can find place only on wing back.

Not sure about that.

Ibe and Markovic are both very talented young players, but Sterling is a step up (at least from what he's shown so far).

As both a United and Wycombe supporter, I'd love it if Ibe developed as rapidly as Sterling has, and then you sold him for colossal money too.
Not sure what sell on we have at Wycombe, but it'd probably keep us afloat for a few years!

According to Di Marzio Bild was right last year. We have him on the radar.
Bild and a respected sport reporter who I remember as being right most of the time agreeing about our heavy interest.
I now believe that we are very much interested.
But I cant see us paying more then 50 million euros. Would love him in München. Already known around the world, just 20 and someone for the wings when Rib or Rob arent superhumans anymore.

It would be interesting to see Raheem go to Germany, well to Bayern only I mean, to see how he can do. I think it would be great for his career and English football.

it's pretty much cut and dried now whatever happes;, if he was happy he'd just sign. he'll either go this summer or next or sign a new contract on the proviso liverpool get in the cl consistently or allow liverpool to get a decent price for him if someone like barca, real or arsenal turn his head, ala suarez. same for us and de gea, anything else is just wishful thinking.

Unlikely as far as Barcelona are considered

Rodgers is batshit crazy playing Sterling as a wingback. Completely limited his attacking play against us, I loved it

Yeah, it was nice having him at wing back. He's the player I feared the most going into the game. The thought of him running in behind the likes of Jones, Blind and Valencia was quite worrying. Every team fears players who can do what he does, but from wing back... not so much.

Played the bulk of the game at RWB and then at LB. He didn't do enough but Rodgers certainly didn't help him. Must be frustrating for him. Certainly wouldn't find himself playing in such positions for City or Chelsea.

No idea why he played wing back and Lallana had his spot behind Sturridge.

Cheers Brendan.

Was that Brentan's way of encouraging him out the door? What an odd way to use maybe their best attacker. If Bayern are actually interested in him then I can see that becoming a more enticing prospect every minute he plays at fecking full-back for Liverpool :wenger:

He'd be spending an awful lot of time on the bench at Bayern.

yeah, right... He's far from that. For one he had a better season last year than this one.

I couldn't understand why Rodgers played him as a wingback and then brought Balotelli on instead of pushing him up top and moved him to LB.

It's nonsensical to say the least. We'd be better off with Johnson at RWB, and that's saying a lot

Im glad I wasnt alone thinking this. Ridiculous from Brenton, not complaining though.

I don't think this guy will be at Liverpool much longer (at least, if they don't look like making big strides.)
He doesn't strike me as having a real affinity to Liverpool.

Heck, he strikes me as the kind who'd transfer directly to United if the deal was right. Whereas you don't get that impression about Sturridge, for example.

I've seen Sterling many times for our reserves before he broke into the first team. From the age of 15 he either played left wing or right wing. Never, or hardly ever, in the middle. So wing play is not an alien position for him, its his bread and butter. He should have taken Blind to town but instead cacked in his nappies. Rodgers puts him in a position to take full advantage of that but he didn't, can't blame Rodgers for that.

He was deposited at left back thanks to Stevie G, not Rodgers. Plus the fact he played like turd where he was anyway (despite it being his bread and butter). Had Sterling played where you thought he should have, and put in that turd performance, how many of you still wouldn't have blamed Rodgers? None.

Sterling showed why he is a great 'talent' but not a £150k per week player yet. If he refuses to sign in the summer and we can get £50m to buy Pjanic and one of Lacazette/Vietto I wouldn't be too upset. However, I'd like him to stay if possible.

I really don't think Pjanic, Lacazette or Vietto would see Liverpool as their next move. Especially without champions League football. If you sell him for £50m you're more likely to get a player or two from the bracket below them.

Who'd give you £50m for him like? None of the Spanish teams would want him, Bayern don't need him and wouldn't spend that anyway.

PSG? Nah. Chelsea, Us, City or Arsenal and none of us would pay it.

He's young for a move abroad and doesn't seem the type to want to leave England. More likely he would keep playing in the prem.

Sure he can "do a job" as a wing back, but it's just crazy trying to squeeze him into the team to play a position he is nowhere near as effective in. As Liverpool you surely want your best players playing as close to the goal as possible, it's exactly the same mistake we made with Rooney over and over again.

Having to track runners and cover the defense when we had possession was killing his stamina, which meant when he did get the ball he wasn't at full power to attack us. I don't remember 1 scenario where Sterling blazed passed Blind, which was what I was worried most about all game.

First two minutes, he ran around Blind and got a nice ball between him and Jones. I thought here we go, then he disappeared for the whole match. If Sterling doesn't have the 'stamina' to out-stamina Fellaini/Blind then maybe we should take the money now. He is fundamentally a winger who was shoe-horned into playing in the middle/up front this season. Out of all the players I was disappointed in for various reasons, he was top of the list.

He is one of the players I would consider as a possible replacement for Ribery or Robben in the future, there have been rumours about him in german tabloids, too. Let's see what will happen in the summer.

I think it was a tactical limitation of the 3-4-3 tbh. The risk you take with that formation is that the opposition could overload the flanks, which forces your wingback to act as little more than a full back. That's exactly what happened. Stering's a fine player, but he's not a full back.
