I think it is not a bad price for City. He is worth aroud 35-40m pounds but English tax and selling to a rival always increase the price.

9 million goes to QPR too I think. So that's on the money.

City have grossly overpaid, but so have United on several occasions for young English talent and they are desperate for quality homegrown players. He is already a good player who frightens defences and at his age there is every reason for them to hope he kicks on and improves even further. I also think he will get plenty of games there - I don't think he will be a bench warmer.

Great signing for City.

But i don't agree with you asessment of our transfers against Sterling. He will never be as marketable as is Rooney. He could prove to be a really good player for City on the pitch but not in marketability.

And about our transfers. We bought really good players in Schneiderlin and Darmian. They are not the most marketable players but will bring success on the pitch. But when it comes to Schweinsteiger we hit the jackpot with this transfer. His marketability is immense. German captain and the most successful German football player. He even has a nickname football god. Sterling would have to be on Ronaldo level if he want to be as marketable as is Bastian at the moment..

I think you're overstating things about Sterlings marketability. He has massive potential in that realm. He's young and is already a key player for club and country. The weight of England will be on his shoulders at the next world cup.

People keep saving how ridiculously overpriced he was, but there is a huge chance that the money they receive (£39m) will be spent on Benteke and Ings' compensation.

Would any Liverpool fan at Christmas have swapped Sterling for Benteke/Ings?

If Liverpool were smart I think they would have tried to deal with United for Hernandez. I think Benteke and Hernandez would be a class partnership but they wouldn't deal with United. Ings? We'll see where he is in a few years time.

Will be interesting to see what he is like next season, he was turning into a very good player during Liverpools title run, however stagnated last year. Though that could be due to his sulking.

He is overrated at the moment and City have paid at least 10m more than he is worth but if they have him for 10 years it will be as good as services as we got out of Rio

It really irks me when ex-professional and pundits alike say stuff like, 'Will Sterling get regular game time moving to City with their multi-talented squad?'. Well yes actually, he should. If you view their attacking players in isolation then he's only behind Silva and Aguero. City could decide to deploy any formation of their choosing, whether that's 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1 or two up top with Aguero and Bony and he would still feature regularly.

I know people like to use the argument of City being a potential graveyard for young talent, namely English, but the reality of the situation is Sterling would face more competition for places at Chelsea or Arsenal and United too, though he was obviously never coming to us. City is a good move for him. Exactly what the club needed, some fresh legs in the team to add impetus and pace. Likewise, Sterling will be linking up with a higher calibre of player and should still feature regularly, attitude and injuries permitting.

I think the Delph potential transfer was a pretty transparent attempt from City to get someone in who would count towards homegrown status and was relatively cheap. I think he probably would have gone the way of Rodwell and Sinclair.

Sterling will be different though. He's well better than Navas for starters.

Yeah, even if City aren't great for young talent, I think it should be a bit different for Sterling in that he's not some unknown talent who's going to in the reserves. He's already a very good player, and City will presumably give him plenty of good time. Of course, he's still got a lot to develop and improve on, but I'd surprised if he's not a regular player for them.

I think Kane will be the man.

Meh, I've always rated this guy since I first saw him, he was selfish as any top striker, and he'll score goals. But something about him, maybe just that he was at Liverpool and they have the warm squishy feel of a rotting corpse, seems off and I'm half glad we didn't pay that fee for him.

For that kinda money you can get just about anyone.

I know it sounds shocking but then again I bet they thought Delph would sign for them :) Everyone knows that they only want to sign English players because they have to. If that requirement wasn't there, would they have gone for Delph? Don't think so. Just wait and see. I would think he's more likely to stay at Pool then join city. I'm sure United are still interested but you'll see even pool fans backing off their 'hate' if they thought he would play for them next season. Blame will be palmed off to the agent
Thanks :) Anyway Sterling won't be signing for City. I think we can all agree on that.
