It's well documented that it is about money. He wants to stay and be paid.
Is it? I've seen some Liverpool-supporting journos peddle that. It usually goes with blaming his agents for all of it.

In reality I would imagine he's perfectly happy to stay once he gets paid what he wants. If that doesn't happen I imagine he wouldn't he heartbroken about the idea of being paid more to play for a better side. Like most footballers he seems happy to allow his agents be blamed for what are his decisions.

Sterling would start for every team in the Prem and really anybody outside of it save for Barca, Madrid and Bayern, so I don't see why they wouldn't pay him. Sell off Markovic or whoever if you need the money.

Safe to say ourselves, Chelsea, Arsenal and City will contact his agent at some stage. This could make for fun viewing during the summer.

Sterling needs to settle down and think about things for a minute - he's looking a bit of a tit at the moment. He's not good enough for the level of wages he's after. Yet anyway.

I disagree, he's our best player alongside Sturridge and Coutinho and needs to be paid accordingly. And if you don't think he's good enough for the wages he's after, think about how good he can and probably will be in a couple of seasons. He's one of the brightest talents in Europe and could go on to become a very, very important player for us in the upcoming seasons, given that he's only twenty years old. We as Liverpool fans think £100K per week is nice enough if you look at the opportunities he's been given at the club since a very young age. But his agents just want as much money as they can get right now.

I would've thought he would accept the £100K contract though, it's a significant raise on his current contract. Giving a 20 year old £130K could lead to problems in the future though, if he develops into a world class winger, he'll want extraordinary wages at the age of 23, which might disrupt our financial structure or cause troubles in the dressing room. However, I don't think that's what we should be worried about right now - let's just make sure he's at Liverpool next year, but I'm honestly very confident about all this. Likewise with Henderson.

He needs to remain at Liverpool. He'll flop if he takes a big money move because he won't have Rodgers alongside him.

He's obviously very talented but he's hardly setting the league on fire at the moment, not to the extent where he should be in the league's very top wage bracket. Once his output consistently improves he will be.

Until then, £100k is about right for where he's at. I can envisage a structured deal where his earnings would increase according to his performance being negotiated - seems the best solution.

Just curious, do you think it's financial reasons into why he hasn't tied down a new contract or is it rather him waiting it out to see if you will be in the Top 4.

I think it's more likely to be financial reasons. Like Barney said, he wants to be a top earner at the club, in the Sturridge bracket. He'll still be at Liverpool next year. Even if we don't get top four, what's he going to do, hand in a transfer request? No way, and his contract only runs out in 2017 at the moment so there's little to no chance we'll sell him.

come off it. Yes he is worth that as there teams that are willing to pay him more than that. YOu are only worth as much as somebody is willing to pay for you.

Fair enough, I'd also be extremely surprised if he did leave. Liverpool have a strong English core of players and as much as it pains me to say it; they also have an excellent manager who can get the best out of unpolished players. He really has no reason to leave but it depends on his ambitions, we can never really know what a player truly wants, especially in the modern game.

Playing second fiddle to Henderson in the Nivea commercial could be final straw. Shocking.

Sterling would actually be a fantastic signing for us if we could pull it off - a proper winger/wide forward. The likes of Sterling, Januzaj and Nani all suit the wide positions in LVG's 4-3-3 perfectly.

I think a winger should be a priority for us at this point and the club should do everything in its power to try to sign either Sterling or Bale.

I wish I could hold my employer to ransom.

This sounds similar to the Rooney situation, he'll get what he roughly wants and Liverpool would be mad not to. You only have to look at Pogba as an example.

But I thought footballers were slaves? :P

Transfer requests are so 1990's. These days you just say how unhappy you are and imply that you're not going to be arsed if you stay. Clubs usually sell in the end.

it's pretty much cut and dried now whatever happes;, if he was happy he'd just sign. he'll either go this summer or next or sign a new contract on the proviso liverpool get in the cl consistently or allow liverpool to get a decent price for him if someone like barca, real or arsenal turn his head, ala suarez. same for us and de gea, anything else is just wishful thinking.

Think he is waiting to see where Liverpool finish this season. They qualify for the CL, he'll sign a new contract albeit with a lot of clauses.

I dare say, think De Gea may also be doing the same.

"concentrating on my football"

"I've heard rival teams want to pay colossal figures, and those will only go up as my contract runs down"

A top form Sterling might.
The tired, off form Sterling that's been around for a lot of this season wouldn't.

I've seen £50m mentioned by a few outlets, and at that price, I wouldn't be too arsed to see him leave... As long as it isn't Chelsea, that is.

Unless he tears up trees until the end of the season he's unlikely to manufacture a move, so it just becomes a wage negotiation, £100k a week in the current market seems about there.

Be careful what you wish for. You'll only take that 50m and spend it on 3 average players.

have the goalposts not moved with the new TV deal on the way........

I think 100-150k could well be the norm for average footballers so I think Sterling will get what he asks for

Probably  I see we're linked with Walcott, which would be nice n all if he wasn't made of uncooked spaghetti... I think Rodger's (hope) will see that we've got enough squad depth & potential to nurture as it is, and goes for more of the finished article in the summer.

If we sold Raheem for £50m, and free up £250k p/w with Johnson & Gerrard leaving, I'd love for us to go big on a better CDM than Lucas, Clyne, & Lacazette. If offered that now, I'd take it. (We'll no doubt have more to spend than that, but that's the base of what I'd be happy with).

I would be furious to see him leave whatever the price. He's brilliant.

So spend on a position that Rodgers usually doesn't use, an average full back and a very, very good striker? Unless the defensive midfielder is Busquets, I'd rather keep Sterling. Again, he's brilliant.

We've played some of our best football this season with Lucas in the team, so buying an upgrade on him for when we do explore other formations is hardly a bad idea.

Clyne isn't average... In fact, I can't think of a better English RB right now. With Johnson leaving, we need a new first XI RB, and I don't watch enough international football to know of any young up'n'comers I'd rather have than Clyne.

Lacazette is just exactly what we need. If we can get a few strikers off our books, bring Origi back, and bring in a forward of that quality, I'll be a lot happier going into 15/16 than I was going into 14/15.

Coutinho signed a contract, and that's all I care about  If Sterling goes for silly money, then so be it. Yeah, he can be a very entertaining player, and he's deadly on his day, but I wouldn't turn down £50m+ for him.

When the competition is Glen Johnson and Kyle Walker that isn't difficult.

I'd love Lacazette, but not at the expense of Sterling. I agree we need a forward like him though.

Lucas didn't play as a defensive midfielder when he was in the 3-4-3.

What RB do you think we'll go for, then?

Can't see Bayern signing, no this summer. He'll cost too much and have be demanding too high wages to justify the move. He would be limited in terms of game time and I don't think Sterling would want that anyway.

I reckon he'll stay this summer regardless anyway and may jump ship at the end of next season if things are not looking good at Liverpool, probably to City or Chelsea.

Honestly, Walcott wouldn't be a bad option as long as he avoids injuries, he's really up'd his finishing as well so if Raheem was to go it wouldn't be the end of the world. But I've heard a few rumours on Eduardo Salvio joining regardless of Sterling.

I agree. I do rate Walcott, and he does bring more goals than Sterling currently does which is something we're definitely lacking right now. But his wages would be too high for a player that's unfit to play so often. If we turn down £150k p/w for Sterling and bring in Theo on £100k p/w plus, our transfer committee would deserve a slap.
