I suppose if one of England's best young talents becomes available you should expect Manchester United to be interested.

We should be involved even if it's only to ramp up the price for City and Chelsea.

I'd rather Chelsea or City saved themselves £10m than paid it extra to Liverpool.

These are all Liverpool based hacks with this story. This is either one of two things:

1: agent being a knob and trying to stir things up.

2: Liverpool PR excercise-using us so they can say to the fans they refused us at all costs to make it feel they 'got one over' Us.

I don't think the club are actually either that smart or pro actve for option 2 at the moment although no doubt they'll try that after selling him to Chelsea or city.

I don't get, however, what the agent/sterling have to gain from doing this along with releasing the initial wanting to leave story before the season ends. Is a shite state of affairs when shot stirring and purposefully trying to piss people off gets you a better deal

Looks like some briefing has been done, can't see any chance of them selling to us no matter what happens but it makes sense for us to try.

Why? They'll only waste it anyway.

I think it's likely come from Liverpool's side, but I'd say the reason is to start a bidding war between Chelsea, City and whoever else is interested.

Raheem Sterling plays for Man Utd on my Sevilla save on FM14.

He plays right wingback.

I think this round of paper briefings have come from Sterling himself.

Consider it from his view: all season he has been listening to Rodgers talk complete bullshit for months on end, and then this morning Sterling goes online and sees LVG's awards speech - Sterling is now doing everything he can to push this move onto the agenda.

That's clearly what has happened here.

All this Sterling news has been broken by Merseyside reporters i.e reporters who are close to Liverpool FC. I don't think this has been briefed by United's side. Probably done by Liverpool to increase pressure on City.

It would be hilarious if it happened, but there's not a chance in hell that Liverpool would sell him to us.

I think United are merely testing the waters.

as a fan of the game, i wouldn't want to see him go to Chelsea. Mourinho is the worst possible manager he can go play under at this stage in his career.

It's highly unlikely Liverpool have done anything in this United link, there are quite a few fed up fans about all this already - adding to that would just make it worse.

All we know from our side so far is that we have said he is not for sale, talks planned with the club tomorrow I think.

I don't think United are the ones briefing this story. Either it's Liverpool trying to get a bidding war going, or Sterling's agent trying to drum up interest.

Even if we were genuinely interested and serious about making a bid, I'm not holding my breath. It is next to impossible that Liverpool will sell to United, not when there are other clubs interested as well. If we were the only clubs in the picture, and Sterling was adamant on leaving, then maybe. But in all likelihood, if he leaves this summer, it'll be to City.

Looking over the fact that we don't need him and that he's a bit shit, this is absolutely hilarious.

Pretty sure we make enquiries about everyone and everything though, so this is blatantly Liverpool on the PR offensive and doing it through the press (nice one lads, keep it up).

Part of me wants us to come out and actually say "we are not interested and never have been" and part of me wants us to put in a derogatory bid - e.g. Arsenal/Suarez.

this would only happen if the player full on downed tools, and United were the only club interested. Since neither is likely to be the case, there's next to zero chance I'd say.

Do not esnt him at all. If we want to add another winger than just buy Bale, the other candidates are not necessary and we should just save the money. City can have him, I doubt he will be somethimg special.

I would say it's the former, but not to drum up interest.
This entire saga is a creation of the agent to get him more money, the club knows this, the agent knows this, the player knows this.
Nobody genuinely thinks he is going to leave, they are fishing to see if anyone bites, and on the basis of who does, that's what his new contract will be based on.

Sterling is still only 20 and is nowhere near the finished article. Under the right manager, with the right coaching and direction, he will develop into a top class player. There is no doubt in my mind about that.

I think if he goes abroad it's because he wants United move (Munich maybe). He has very good potential for creativity, pace and goals. It's an interesting one none the less. I'm sure we've talked to our friends at Liverpool. Historic clubs need to stick together or there will be plastic clubs everywhere

This is a leak from the Liverpool end designed to put the price up in the event they feel compelled to sell. I doubt we're interested to any great degree.

I can see us being interested given that he's a fan and the contract situation being what it is. We don't hold the cards though as both Chelsea and city would be in for him. He'l end up at city Imo.

Based on what?

Supporters are already unhappy about this - linking United would just increase that.

Well Liverpool maybe wants to make Sterling even more a bad guy and themselves in saints in the whole story.

Can't see that any link with United would just increase any unrest towards the player.

At the end of the day we don't know - I can't see us selling to you even if a) we sell him anyway (no firm suggestion we will) b) or that you even want him

He can't have been a very good childhood United fan if he spends his career playing for both Liverpool and City.

Even if we want him there's no chance in hell we'll get him.
Its all fun and games though. :)

We should bid £50m.

If they accept:
a) The meltdown amongst LFC fans around the world if we managed to get him.
b) We could just withdraw from the negotiations if we don't want to spend that kind of money saying we couldn't reach an agreement with the player. The fans would still be pissed at the club for accepting the offer.

If they reject:
a) They won't be getting that amount of money from any other club in the world so they would be missing out on tens of millions by selling him to a different club. Hardly a sensible way to do business.
b) We would have added fuel to the fire in any case. The tension created between the club, the fans and the player would be massive.
c) The player, a boyhood United fan, would not be amused.

It's a win-win whichever you look at it. Come on Woody you sadistic muppet, work your magic!

Come on Johnny he is gone. There is no value in keeping an unmotivated player with a declining value. It is the time to cash in on him now. Liverpool FC know that, you are not really in a cash strong position to be digging your heals in.

If Figo could move from Barca to Madrid, anything is possible.

I don't particularly want him tbh, but I'd love to see the meltdown if we did sign him. I'd be happy with the club paying £40-50M for that to happen.

Yeah as a player I'm not fussed in the slightest by him, especially not for even half the reported fee but as a sheer 'add to the misery of Liverpool fans over the past year or so' troll device it'd be amazing.

I really cant see Liverpool doing a deal with United. They haven't done a direct deal with each other in 50 years, no way they'll start now so that rumor can be put in the bin. I'm not going to slate Sterling because he is a good player and got a potential to be decent for a club and more importantly for country, but in terms these outburst of him saying in public he is going to decline Liverpool's contract is down to his agent. He's a young footballer who is being a manipulated by these devious agents who only cares about the money which infects that kind of attitude into young players like Sterling... that's how i'm seeing it.

I think his career could be at risk if he goes somewhere like Man city and he'll be another potential English player ruined and then disposed which i hate seeing. I think the right club for him is Arsenal, he suits there style of play and will likely replace Walcott due to his injury problems which means he'll be guarantee game play. The kid need to stay grounded, he needs to make sure he's picking a club where he is most likely to play regular football and not follow the money and easy glory because it'll just ruin his career. I'm speaking in a neutral perspective because at the end of the day he is the future for England's national team and i would hate to see another prospect ruined by clubs like Man City who only grab these english footballers just for FA regulation purposes.

I haven't said whether he will go or not. Clearly he wants to, however the club have said he is going nowhere.
Whether that is just talk I don't know, as it stands it seems likely you are right - but I can't see us selling to United and clearly from the Suarez situation we are reluctant to sell to any English club.
