One thing that is really annoying me is the whole 'he needs to show loyalty to Liverpool, they stood by him' etc. Liverpool did not complain when he showed no loyalty to QPR, they embraced it. This is no different.

Of course he'll never be sold to United. Heinze proved the situation between the 2 clubs. But it's certainly a nice fantasy to contemplate.

I think this could be Liverpool just saying that hey we could keep him till his contract ends but then he would join United so we would much rather sell now to Arsenal or City

Sterling would be daft to join us.

Liverpool fans sent death threats to Gerrard's family to get him to change his mind over a move to Chelsea.

Raheem would have a scouse fatwa on his head if he joined us.

The story is blatantly briefed by Liverpool, trying to soften the blow for the fans for when he eventually joins Man City, which won't seem too bad in comparison.
That has conjured up images of Bin Laden in shellsuit in my mind... @Olly make that magic happen!

Yeah, was just thinking the same.
"The little scrote was flirting with United, so all you Liverpool fans should be delighted we sold him to City instead. Let's all laugh at United ( while we just sold our best player)".

Off Rawk -

If he goes to utd there will be lynch mobs in the streets of liverpool. FSG will be put in witness protection, Ian Ayre will be found decapitated by his motorbike and rodgers will spend his days in a paper factory.
As for raheem sterling, let's just say he better not go out at night.

Well, no. Steven and his family are from Liverpool. He would have had to go back home every now and again. Sterling isnt, and Gerrard was seen in much higher regard. What made matters worse is the fact that Stevie asked for a transfer just after Liverpool won the CL.

 would be hilarious if this happened. There's pretty much zero chance of him coming here though. Only scenarios I can think of is him staying for another 2 years then leaving on a free or he moves abroad. He can't hack it abroad or he gets homesick then a move from there. Even if Liverpool allowed it to happen, not sure he would have the bottle to see it through anyway.

Definitely looks like the papers have been briefed by someone regarding our interest.

Maybe Woodward/Van Gaal are fans of the Rawk meltdown thread and thought, let's have a few lols.

Sure I heard that Woodward is an admirer of how Bayern do things with regard to plucking the best talent from within Germany, and then dominating their domestic rivals.

Could be the thinking behind this, a show of strength and intent for the future maybe.

Alternately we could just be diverting attention form the Hummels 'rejection'

No. He does not match to Munich. What do we want in Munich with another "golden boy" that already wants to earn much more than he deserves? He is too expansive for somebody from whom you do not know if he can adapt to the system, league, language, country etc. and from who you do not know how he will manage his early success. He did not repeat his debut season...
This post.
Was damn hard to read.

Also:
You can say that about any foreign signing to any top club ever.
He's a 20 year old talent, and Bayern need replacements for their stars, and even if that is promoted from within they'll need squad-players to keep them on their toes.

"Liverpool have spent one season in six in the Champions League and have won one trophy in the last nine years."

Can't blame him for wanting to leave.

Maybe if we offer to take Balotelli off their hands as part of the deal they'll consider it.

I agree with most of the sentiment on here, Liverpool would prefer to shut up shop and turn Anfield into a roller disco before they'd sell him to us.

That said, what would their move be if he came out and said publicly that he has his heart set on joining Manchester United?
Their owners would shit the bed at the idea of losing him on a free. Plus they'd need to spend his transfer value on security for match days and at training between now and the end of his contract.

If these rumours of him being a childhood United fan are true, this could be an intriguing and hilarious saga!

or be stuck playing as a wing back b/c his manager sucks at buying players :rolleyes::lol:

It's ridiculous how the media are presenting it as if he's going to be making a sidewards move.

It's not even a case of just staying put. He'd be required to sign up. To sign three/four years of his career away to Liverpool in their current sorry state.
Why would you sign up for four years of having ridiculous expectations on your shoulder at 22, while being unsuccessful, and not getting paid as much as you could?

I suspect he would be taking a vacation while he's saying that, and do a Tevez for the longterm if the move doesn't happen.

We'd need to send Stam and Vidic up to babysit him!
and maybe Phil Jones to instil the fear of the unexpected!

This is Woodward having a bit of fun, surely?

As hilarious as it'd be signing him I wouldn't exactly be elated... He's been hit and miss this season, it'd have to take a lot of money for Liverpool to consider selling to us, and he doesn't appear to be the most loyal.

But it'd be worth the laugh.

I really want us to sign Sterling for 2 reasons.

1. Because Liverpool as a city and RAWK would both completely implode, and we can ensure this by winning the league next season and going to Anfield and chant sterling 1 Gerrard 0.

and 2. Because even though we would pay massive amounts for him and it would be buying for the sake of buying, i would also look forward to watching Brenton invest the money in 2 35 year old strikers and a new hot dog stand.

Chelsea would seem the more realistic opportunity to win things with in London at the moment.

All being serious, I wouldn't be surprised if this is leaked by the agent to get other clubs to start bidding.

Reminds me of the Rooney situation when Newcastle launched their bid which forced us to come in and complete the transfer.

Why do Bale and Sterling have to allegedly become available at a time when we're well stocked in wingers? :(

ADM, Young, Januzaj, Mata, Nani and now Depay. There's no way we could keep everyone happy.

Well Mata isn't traditionally a winger. Young is 30 and has been great this year but should be on the bench next season. Januzaj has been fecking awful all year and needs a loan. Nani is off. Leaves us Depay and ADM who again isn't really a winger and could be off! Might need them both!

Manchester United have tried to take advantage of the uncertainty over Raheem Sterling’s future at Liverpool by inquiring about signing the England forward.

The approach from Old Trafford featured a request for an indication of how much it would cost to buy the unsettled 20-year-old, who is involved in a contract stand-off at Anfield.

Manchester City are also pursuing Sterling and the approach from their neighbours is likely to be followed by others from Barclays Premier League clubs monitoring the situation.

Liverpool, though, are determined not to sell Sterling and United’s inquiry was rejected out of hand, without any figures being discussed. United were also left in no doubt that further communication on the subject would not be welcomed. While Liverpool’s hands-off message applies to all clubs hoping to prise Sterling away from them this summer, the ferocity of their historic rivalry with United dictates that, even in the event of their stance changing, the prospect of a deal being struck between the clubs is unlikely to improve.

Not since April 1964, when Phil Chisnall joined Liverpool from United in a £25,000 deal, has a player been transferred directly between English football’s two most successful clubs, their rivalry becoming increasingly intense in the following decades. Since then, only Gabriel Heinze, in 2007, has gone close to breaking the unofficial taboo, but he was prevented from doing so when a Premier League tribunal ruled that even though United had given the defender written permission to join another club for £6.8?million and Liverpool had matched their asking price, the authorisation applied only to foreign clubs.

Although relations between the clubs are more cordial now since the departures of Sir Alex Ferguson and Rafael Benítez, the chances of one countenancing the sale of a key player to the other remain negligible.

Aidy Ward, Sterling’s representative, is set to hold talks with Liverpool tomorrow, during which he is expected to stress his client’s desire to leave. It is also expected that he will ask Liverpool to provide him with a price at which they would consider a sale.

Liverpool, though, hope to convince Sterling to sign a new contract. Even if that does not happen, the club insist that they will hold Sterling to his present deal, worth £35,000 per week.

Jordon Ibe and Jonathan Flanagan have signed new contracts. Ibe has agreed an improved five-year deal while Flanagan, who is out for the rest of this year with a knee injury, has accepted a 12-month extension.

United have also missed out on their main defensive target after Mats Hummels, the Borussia Dortmund and Germany centre half, rejected a potential move to Old Trafford, They are reported, though, to be edging closer to signing Nicolas Otamendi, 27, the Valencia and Argentina centre half.

There's no chance of this happening.

Didn't we take Henize to court when he tried to force a move to Liverpool?

And that was our back up left back who'd suffered a bad injury which made him half the player he was. I can't see Liverpool selling us their biggest talent.

Coutinho won't be leaving.

You're right though. No chance this is happening.

Pfft, Woodwork League winners 2011/12 plus Gerrard got given that spray painted shoe the other day by a kid at Anfield. And they nearly clinched the title last year which is basically the same thing as winning it.

So there.
