Raheem Sterling | Signs for Man City for £49,000,000

I think it is a good year for Liverpool to sell Sterling too. He's not been quite as good this season as the last so his reputation is probably higher than his form of the season. If he goes another season without reaching the same heights again people will start forgetting what he did then two years ago. Even if he'll still be a top talent it won't be quite the "golden boy" fuzz that has surrounded him this year.

Liverpool should pay whatever they can to pick up Firmino who would be perfect for them and who would do Sterling's role as well or better anyhow. Then they have a much better bargaining situation with Sterling, he'd be a lot more likely to stay with such a top player being brought in who'd he love to play with too.

Also Liverpool would already have covered losing Sterling if they end up getting a big enough bid which they can't reject. The only top club who really looks made for Firmino are Liverpool and Dortmund and I think Liverpool have a great chance there after Dortmunds level this year.

Such a perfect signing for them as he can play Sturridge pace role, Coutinho's playmaking role and Sterlings pace/trickery role. So they could finally afford having either of them out injured while still having a top team. As it is now an injury to Sturridge/Sterling is a bit too brutal for them to challenge for the title.

The other top four teams should be happy that Sturridge just started 7 league games all season, I doubt we'd be 8 points ahead otherwise.

Coutinho is not better then Sterling. He's just flavour of the month, earlier in the season it was the other way around.

I disagree. Coutinho has had great games since joining us in Jan '13, and while he's been a tad inconsistent at times, to call him FOTM is a tad disingenuous (in my opinion). His goal scoring may be a notch below the likes of Cazorla right now, but he's only 22 and seems to be adding goals to his game at a decent enough rate. In 3 years time, I expect him to be a regular international player for Brazil.

Maybe it's because he's the kind of player I love to watch (the smart AM that can play wonderballs and drift past people), but seeing Cou sign a contract until 2020 made me a lot happier than any potential new deal for Raheem.

And it seems Man City want him too  £35m? It's probably a fair offer, but I really don't want us to accept it. I just love watching him play.

I think it's something ridiculous like the 60's. They tried to sign Heinze in 2006 but we refused. It seems very old fashioned and now every rival in world football does business so I think/hope if we do go after Sterling they will be sensible. At the end of the day John Henry isn't going to give a shit about Liverpool-United rivalry if he gets some extra £££

Do you literally not get how football works? We will never buy off them. Wouldn't want to either.

Didn't Ferguson try to buy Gerrard around 2001-2002? Stupid Frogie didn't understand how football works.

Coutinho > Sterling

City will probably target the wrong player

Putting aside the Coutinho or Sterling debate, no, they're targetting the right player. English talented player who's unhappy at his current club to fill their English quota, it can't get any better than that for them really.

Not to mention all the welfare cheques they'll get for his 60 children.

Coutinho has end product to his game, yes he shoots like 10x more but he's capable and confident of scoring worldies, Sterling has everything in his game but end product.

Reminds me of our Januzaj situation, I guess it takes experience to grow out of. Worked for Ronaldo anyway...

Don't understand why Sterling is constantly criticised for lacking end product. Over the last two league seasons he has made 52(10) appearances and got 27 goals and assists. Yeah he could be doing even better but those are good numbers for a 20 year old in a strong league, especially as he doesn't get the boost from taking set pieces that some others do.

He's a Liverpool player, had he played for us we'd all he wanking over him. He's a fantastic player and I would love to have him at United. Will never happen though.

I'm sure his 'chances created' stat is very high, also. He has a weak shot and can be suspect at times in the final third, but it's so clear he is an elite talent.

It's never a good time to sell one of the best talents in the world.

Not that simple. If a player really wants to go, there is no way to solve it and the price is right it is the best decision. Selling him against his wishes would be crazy tough of course.

Agree.

Although I'd add, if it were to ever happen, this is the time when it could...

Transfers are just getting more and more insane, and coupled with that is the desire to meet FFP - if Sterling was dead-set on coming here and we offered 10m more than anyone else, it's possible it could happen. Unlikely, but possible.

I personally think he'd absolutely flourish under Van Gaal, I really do. He already knows the PL well and has proven that he operates best under more technically advanced attacking tactics. His footballing intelligence would suit Van Gaal down to a tee.

His created chances stat is at 2.1 a game which puts him 14th best in the league. The much vaunted Coutinho (this season) is way down in 38th place on that count with 1.5 a game. Coutinho has also scored less and assisted less this season.

Probably a nothing story but might add fuel to the fire.

Shisha storm: Raheem Sterling
Controversial Liverpool star Raheem Sterling has become engulfed in another storm after being snapped puffing on a shisha pipe.

The picture of him inhaling on the bright orange pipe during a night out with pals emerged just hours after he upset his army of fans by snubbing a £100,000-a-week contract.

Experts warn a single shisha session could be equivalent to smoking up to 200 cigarettes.

Dressed in a white T-shirt and grey jogging bottoms, tattooed Sterling, who has 14 England
caps, drags heavily on the long pipe while partying with friends in Liverpool.

And the “1 down 3 to go” message on the picture allegedly referred to how the group had prepared more pipes to smoke.

It was shared on social media provoking a backlash against the star for putting his health at risk.

The image will shock team-mates and parents of youngsters who idolise the winger, 20.

Any word on how his army of fans were feeling, and how big the renewal offer was from Liverpool?

What a ridiculous story.

Disgusting! Liverpool should get rid, cut price £10m

"tattooed Sterling"? WTF is the point of that? Why single that out as a descriptor? "Dainty runner Sterling" would be more pertinent.

And to protect all their young fans, banish him to Man United so that none of their impressionable young fans will be tempted to follow his lead ever again thus ensuring that the only time a Liverpool teenager thinks about 200 cigarettes, it will be when he's stealing them.

I think it's to reinforce the idea of him being 'controversial'. Maybe so that the gullible tossers who read the mirror will go "Oh he wears tatoos, why am I not suprised".

As a parent of a 10 months old, i'm shocked.

Well if you do a good job raising him, he'll be a United fan and therefore will never want to follow in Sterling's steps any way.

They will sack him and let him go on a free. A club of the class of Liverpool and a man with the status of Brendan won't soil themselves by arguing over money.

200 of them!!

Wait, isn't that a movie?

*checks*

It is! An ensemble comedy. Hmmm... Maybe that's code for something.

Oh, gotcha. Yeah, you're probably right. I've been away so long I've forgotten how the tabloids over there think.

I love it when they try to write a full article out of a single picture.

*sigh* Dippers will have started printing the 'Support Sterling' shirts, and Brendan will be preparing a speech about how there's a media conspiracy against his players and Liverpool.

Raheem's Jamaican grandmother used to rip 40 bongs a day so it's perfectly fine.
