Sterling is twice the the player, so yeah.
In that case your opinion of depay is much lower than the impression this thread gives. Sterling is hugely talented but half the player sterling is, is like Ashley Young territory.

Who does ancelotti manage then?

You really mean who will Ancelotti be managing next season. And I don't have a crystal ball, as for my prediction it was clear in the previous post.

The discussion was regarding the potential transfer of Sterling this summer so obviously from my post it is my opinion Ancelotti will not be managing Real Madrid in 2015 / 16. You could just read the post properly and think a little instead of taking what is written literally.

Nope. You could just write posts more clearly instead of others indulging in guesswork as to what your posts could possibly mean. If you mentioned it in some other post then fair enough, I didn't see that.

I think it would be fair to say I don't rate Depay as highly as many do although "twice the player" was an exaggeration on my part. Alsa think Sterling is more the kind of player we need. Depay is not your direct Hazard style winger but more of a goalscoring one ala Ronaldo. Young is not a bad comparison. Not the current unproductive Young but the one we signed from Villa.

I did think the post to which you replied was clear:

I think Mourinho would find a way of making use of him, he would easily get into Ancelotti's side whether as a 10 or Silva playing behind Aguero and on the left flank or even on the right flank and in Wenger's team also he would get plenty of games.

I thought it was clear because I mentioned both Mourinho (thus Chelsea), Wenger (thus Arsenal) and the other top four team is City but even then immediately after writing Ancelotti's side, I spoke of Silva playing behind Aguero and Sterling on the left flank or even on the right flank (obviously because that needs upgrading).

Putting 'Ancelotti' instead of 'Pellegrini' was just a bit of fun because I think it really could happen this summer.

 I'd missed this nugget at the time.
So presumably now Brendan will understand if Sterling goes to a more ambitious club, especially if Liverpool miss out on CL football?
Rodgers really need to learn how to stay quiet. First it was the Spurs thing about spending 100m and challenging for the league and now that Southampton quote just makes him look like a tool. I don't think I remember Fergie ever handing out stupid quotes criticising other clubs in England on how they run their business.

It is delicious how his comments always seem to bite back on his arse.

I really can't see him moving to United, but it's hard to deny that...

Rooney
Di Maria Mata Sterling
Blind Carrick

... this wouldn't be fun to watch. Or the same at Arsenal, with him & Sanchez flanking Ozil, playing behind Giroud. I rate the Ox, but he's injured too much tbh.

But yeah, Chelsea does look like the most realistic of the bunch, and that's depressing. Not because I'm some emotionally invested football fanatic who deems players as traitors the second they leave, but because, well... I just fecking hate that club  Even moreso than United, truth be told.

It's an absolute travesty that no journalist asked him whether he still holds that opinion and why Liverpool might be different.

I mean, that Spurs scenario was identical. They both sold their only world class player and POTY and then invested over £100m back into the squad. According to Rodgers, when you spend over £100m you should be challenging for the title yet there he is a mile away from it. No excuses.

Journalists only care about keeping a cosy relationship with managers now. The only way someone will ask him if we sneak someone from redcafe into his press conference.

He had such supreme confidence in his abilities back then. The quote shows that he couldn't conceive that anything similar could possibly happen to Brenda, managerial genius, Rodgers.

Chatting to Dipper this week and he believes Sterling is worth £100m and Ronaldo should now only go for about £35m "at his age."

Your friend is right about ronaldo, sterling on the other hand is a 30M player at best, 40M if you could find a desperate club, he's absolutely nowhere near the top tier of world class players yet.

Ronaldo is surely worth £40m+ for the merchandise revenue alone, despite his age.

I still don't see Sterling leaving for £40m to an English club.

He really backed himself into a corner with those comments.

"There aren't many players in the world that could improve Real Madrid's first team, so it makes sense to closely monitor the progress of one of the best young players in the world", Zidane explained, who also said: "We followed Bale for over a year and the same can also be said for Isco and Varane. We keep an eye on the best young players in Europe, and if they have something to offer Real Madrid then we contact their club and try to take the next step".

A whole year? Wow they really do their homework over there in Madrid

I refuse to believe that they scouted Bale for over a year, the La Liga signing policy seems to be signing the PFA Player of the Year.
They save a fortune in scout's wages though to be fair.

Didn't someone say Sterling had as much a chance of moving to United as Valencia had of beating his man and delivering a perfect cross?- and Valencia did that the next game.

It's a done deal surely.

I refuse to believe that Madrid scout anyone, never mind following them for over a year. Their whole transfer policy seems to be based on buying anyone who's won/nominated for awards and possibly had a good WC/Euros.

City seems nailed on to me. Obviously we would normally be the favourites to sign a top English talent, but I can't see it happening in a month of Sunday's with him being at Pool.

Ye I think he'll go City too. Take Navas's spot. As long as he plays, then I don't mind. Just don't want to see a talent, such as Raheem, go to waste like Rodwell, for example.

I couldn't care less if he wastes his talent - I'd just want him gone from Liverpool; him being at City or Chelsea isn't as annoying as him potentially propping-up Liverpool for years on end.

Zidane's comment sounds more like a Moyesque 'This club is always interested in the best players...and also Liverpool ones' routine.

What is he thinking? Sterling's not striker, he plays there because they have Ballo and Starić is made from glass..

BTW when was the last time we signed Liverpool player?

I think it's something ridiculous like the 60's. They tried to sign Heinze in 2006 but we refused. It seems very old fashioned and now every rival in world football does business so I think/hope if we do go after Sterling they will be sensible. At the end of the day John Henry isn't going to give a shit about Liverpool-United rivalry if he gets some extra £££

1938.

Though you did sign a former LFC captain (and, I think, almost assistant manager) at the end of WW2. Someone called Busby? You may have heard of him.

At the rumoured £50m fee I'd stay well clear. If he goes to City for that price I bet he flops.

Does anybody know how much City can spend this summer net?

City is probably the team where he'll do the best. Not sure just how great he'd be in the winger role for the other top clubs who are interested. These clubs will have to pay the money for what he is worth in his best role and it is still to be seen if he can reach that level as a pure winger too.

Gerrard to succeed Van Gaal then.

I don't see him staying at Liverpool. I get the impression he doesn't have much respect/admiration for Rodgers, which doing the interview with the BBC may confirm. If he's continually played as a wing-back then I would imagine he may well be gone in the summer.Liverpool also have a long history of burning out their young talent.
However, real madrid would be the worst club he could join in terms of his progression. If anything he'll stagnate and the pressure cooker of playing in front of the most demanding crowd in the world after the relative comfort of the Liverpool fans adoration could just break him.

Personally I'd love to see him here, I think he's underrated by a lot of Utd supporters and is possibly the best young winger in the world. He has more than just raw pace to his game, he is very strong on the ball for someone so slight and what has impressed me most is the way his passing has improved since he burst onto the scene.

If I had to guess I would say he would end up at Chelsea or City.

he's off eventually, new contract or not. if they scrape top 4 or win the fa cup he'll give them another year and probably sign a new deal with the clause to go for 50m next summer if they don't get top four. if they get neither he'll go in the summer. either way there's not a chance he'll come here.
