Can someone explain to me why Liverpool are the best place for Raheem Sterling to be? A player with great potential at a club going nowhere.

Brilliant. Woody gives me Woody
Fixed that.

Although I don't doubt we're interested. The universe would implode if a transfer between Liverpool and United, it won't happen. But the fun we could have with the scum will be fantastic.

Sterling would be worth getting just to piss Liverpool off. Even enquiring for him will ruffle them up.

Seriously though I think he still has a way to go to be classed as right up there - certainly consistency wise. The potential is evident though.

Perhaps it's the size of the stage he needs and with CL looking unlikely for next season he will want to be showcasing his talents further afield than just Swansea, West Brom, Stoke etc....

There are two certainties in life. The earth is round, and Liverpool will never sell Sterling to Manchester United.

But he could go on a free transfer to us in 2016. I've read that he is a United fan, but then again I have read that he has 29,5 kids with 56 different women.

Won't happen but would love to seem him in a utd shirt. Given the profile of this contract debate, its definitely tainted his relationship at Anfield and I expect him to go......could end up at Bayern?

Whats the deal with buying out contacts. I don't know the full ins and outs of that rule, so would be interesting to know

He's not better than Memphis Depay at all. Anyway Chelsea bound I reckon after the Cudrado failure.

I'd take Sterling in a heartbeat. Liverpool will not sell him to us though and City will be desperate to snap him up -they are short on homegrown players and their attacking players bar Silva and Aguero haven't been all that impressive.

Specifically, it states that any player who signed a contract before the age of 28 can buy himself out of the contract three years after the deal was signed.

I don't know when Sterling signed his contact, but lets say it was 3 years ago for example, that means at the end of the season, in theory, he could buy himself out of his contact.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20792252 <-- According to this, December 2012.

So lets say United do make a 30m bid for him in the summer, and he does want to come to us, then Sterling could come out and say that if you don't accept the bid, in December he will buy out the remaining 1.5 years of his contact and leave on a free (2.34m to buy out his contract)

Don't think that would happen, but if he is a United fan, you just never know

I dont think its reasonable for Chelsea to go after him, but then again Chelsea and reasonable hardly go hand in hand. They've done surgery to their wide options this season so they should want to give playing time to those players and already have Hazard

I think it seems more likely that City would be his destination with Silva, Milner and Navas all 29, Nasri in better form this season but Sterling an obvious upgrade and City will have like 1 English player if Milner is allowed to leave like he seems to want. So they'll be desperate to take someone like Sterling.

If Sturridge wasn't injured 24/7, I'd rather sign him - even half-fit, like yesterday, he was more of a threat than Sterling.

Imagine him gets out on Webster ruling,oh boy...media would eat him alive, specially due main medias are full with ex scousers. Loosing him for amount just above 2 mil.,not sure how Tommo would take it.

 I personally don't think it would happen, but it is a bargaining chip that Sterling could use, if say, United came in for him, and matched the same bit as another club.

Imagine City and United both bid 30m, but Liverpool only accept City's bid, but Sterling wants to come here, he could threaten Liverpool with that rule

It would be great to watch the very pro-Liverpool media have a meltdown, that said I couldn't tell you the last player who has actually left a club under the Webster ruling, especially not in this country.

Don't the PL clubs have an informal agreement that none of them will take advantage of that ruling?

Dont think he gonna pick that path but WR is such a strong concept from players point of view. So much power that when time comes you can say something like you better accept X amount of money,or will send you 2 boxes of Mars in 5 months, cya. All in all Webster ruling is for another thread.

Its a good solution in that scenario, otherwise it could be chaotic, where agents who are powerful enough would practically stand on club`s necks.

Liverpool should sell him to chelsea in a deal that includes salah and cech going the other way + cash, that'd be a good deal.

Is it possible that Rodgers would quite like the £50m he might raise if they sold him for another rebuild this summer? Hence why he seems to be pushing the contract issue and unsettling him...

I hope so.

Never understood the hype behind Sterling. He's a promising young player but certainly not worth more than 25m.

^^^ Agreed. In England you can't buy potential. The price seems always (for us at least) to be the cost the player will have if he reaches max potential. He might develop into a £50m player with time but he is worth nowhere near that now. Crazy figures.

Would you want us to have a real go at getting sterling if it meant losing out on depay?
No!
I don't feel Sterling deserves the hype and attention he is getting, he is good for his age but hasn't proved anything at all yet.
Depay after having followed him more in the last few months (haven't really followed him much before) all day long.

Do not want. Melodramatic and seems way too influenced by his agents.

Like Ive said previously, Rooney has or at least had proven himself to be one of the best players in the world before all this happened. Sterling still hasnt even proven himself to be the best player in England.

I'm not being serious to be honest, I'd love Sterling here though for more than one reason.

I'd have De Gea over Sterling if it was possible, to be honest. At least ten years that you don't have to worry about a goalkeeper because you've got one of the best in the world? I'll take that. Sterling is an exceptional talent but such wingers are a lot easier to find or produce yourself, we've already got Ibe right now who of course isn't as good as Sterling but it just shows you that world class keepers are much harder to come by than wingers. And I disagree that a keeper can't have a bigger impact on a team than a winger.

No we don't, definitely not this summer. Sterling's value to our team might be higher than losing out on £10 with his transfer fee. Dortmund didn't even want to sell Lewandowski in the last year of his contract because his value to them was higher over the course of that last sason than the transfer fee they'd get from Bayern.

10mil? Does he have 2.5 yrs left on his deal?

Chatting to Dipper this week and he believes Sterling is worth £100m and Ronaldo should now only go for about £35m "at his age."

Lallana kicks up stink at Southampton and gets his move to Liverpool-he has ambition+ gets CL football and nobody mentions the fact that he most probably got a big wage increase.

Sterling does the same and the media go crazy and call him greedy.

Liverpool are a protected species when it come to the media. They are biased or afraid to call it as it is-Liverpool are no longer a big club. Probably down to the fact that their are so many Liverpool fans among them and newspapers are mainly read these days by the over 40s.
