If true, it still doesn't make sense to me for him to want to move to Arsenal unless living in London is his biggest need. They and Liverpool have similar chances of winning major silverware (very little) so going from one to the other seems like a side step. Arsenal don't pay wages far beyond Liverpool do they?

The only moves for him that make sense within the PL are ourselves and City. United are out of the question for obvious reasons.

Heard he was a United fan .Then again that was on Tribal Football.

Loyalty should never be combined with Football, it's a business.. we develop/buy players... use them for their skills and get rid of them. That's it!

So whats wrong with a player doing the same!

Not saying players can't be loyal.. I hope all of ours are, but at the end of the day means nothing.

When you support a team, you support a group of players who embody the ethos and tradition of a club. It's their duty to carry that on. If the players you have don't embody this ethos, then what are you actually supporting? Very little.

Yes very rich clubs seem to attract more loyalty than poor ones. Funny, that.

Giggs was at Manchester City and then signed for Manchester United?

Put into context, what your saying is a stupid idea. I don't see Madrid fans having a lack of love for Figo.

The rivalry was nowhere near as intense. Anyway, we signed him when he was about fourteen.

The culture in Spain is definitely somewhat different, although Barca fans certainly didn't like Figo very much. Pig's head and all that...

What's stupid about it? You've failed to put my comment into any form of context, and have actually dodged my argument completely.

Okay... Simply put how do you explain Sol Campbell & RVP? Us and Arsenal fans are very passionate.. I didn't see any protest by the fans when RVP got here. Like I would expect if we signed Sterling, just a lot of gloating.

Probably Coutinho.
On recent evidence I would say Coutinho too. I worry that Sterling is going to take the typical English route of failing to live up to the promise/hype, like Walcott for example. It would probably do him good to play abroad for a while, develop his ability.

Again, the rivalry with Arsenal was massive from late 90's to about 2006. Hasn't been anywhere near that level for nearly a decade now. Historically, it's not even close to Liverpool.

Campbell's move was ridiculous, not the sort of player I'd want to have anywhere near United.

Worth pointing out that FSG have made a habit of leaking crap about their players at least when it comes to the Red Sox. See their fried chicken and beer smear campaign they had against Lester, Lackey and Beckett in 2011.

Your living in a patriotic fantasy. Campbell would have been loved by you. The same way you still support Rooney even though 4 years ago he was ready to go to Manchester City who was pushing us for the title (Sounds like Rivalry to me).

Arsed if he wants to leave Liverpool. As long as we don't buy him he can go wherever he wants. He'd be perfect for Citeh. I think he's overhyped anyway and it would be a waste of money. Needs to prove himself before running his mouth off imho...

the worrying thing is he'd had a pretty average season, long spells off form and being "tired".

And for the game as a whole it's a huge worry when a 20 year old who has won nothing, starts thinking he can demand the highest figures a top club has ever paid.
Horrible really.

Him and Walcott are like two peas in a pod.

I'm sure we were continually linked with him at the time.
It was incredible he picked their hated rivals, and for a free move too.

He doesn't strike me as the most intelligent bloke though, just massively underestimated the hate it'd cause.

I'm not patriotic, just think a club should have a certain ethos, otherwise there's nothing to support. If it isn't history, and heritage embodied by players on the pitch, then what is it? And what would be the point?

I wouldn't have "loved" Campbell. The Rooney situation is different, although, I don't "love" Rooney either. I just love what he's capable of doing for the team.

I don't get the vitriol aimed at this kid from a lot of the British media/supporters over this.

The Liverpool of 2015 aren't much bigger or more attractive than Spurs, nobody was questioning Bale's judgement when he wanted out for Madrid.

Good luck to the lad, he actually seems to have more of a head on his shoulders than I assumed earlier in his career, and if he doesn't like playing for a club full of losers then why should he? All I see is a young English player with all the potential in the world, and genuine football ambition to go with it. About time.

My thoughts, too.

Exactly you don't love the players just how they make you feel when they help United. It's never been about the players personally... Ronaldo was a demi-god here. Now we hardly mention him. We move on and support the club. To really be bothered that a player moved from a rival I don't get it. If anything it adds to the ethos... He would have done the unknown.. That would lay more in the history of both clubs than our rivalry has seen in yearssss, providing he achieves success.

Imagine next season Liverpool vs United with Sterling moving across the divide. Who's going to forget that? Thats rivalry.

We'll have to wait and see I suppose. I don't think he's going to come here, if he does, it will be interesting.

I really hope we get him. I think he is fantastic.

This is the Suarez / Arsenal debacle coming back to bite Liverpool in the ass.
Release clause contractually agreed, Suarez wanted to leave and Arsenal matches the clause.
Liverpool say no, were not selling so what are you going to do about it?
Why would a player who isn't sure about the clubs future sign a longterm contract with them?

So if we'd let Suárez go, Sterling would have signed an extension? Hmm, don't agree with that.

Respecting contracts is what I mean.
Since then, Gerrard / Sterling and Henderson have all had issues negotiating one way or another.

Sterling is just waiting to see how active Rodgers becomes in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool signed him from QPR. Someone else will sign this lad from Liverpool. Liverpool will get a good transfer fee for developing him. It's the way the world works. That interview though, 'I will evaluate where I am at the end of this season', 'I want to win trophies and improve as a player'. You are 20 years of age and you are playing at a club where you are in the top rung of player talent. Shut up and play man, you are just starting your career.

If he sees himself as valuable asset to the company that he works for, and asking for a pay-raise, I don't see why it is a problem. If Liverpool doesn't think he's worth the raise, they don't have to renew the contract. I don't see why it is horrible for a professional asking to get paid extravagant, if circumstances allowed. It's not like Liverpool is a charity company that help poor peoples.

Why wouldn't he say and think those things though? It's just common sense.

Why sign a contract now when much better opportunities may arise soon?

Kid has ambition. Fair play to him, why would he commit himself to a 5 year contract with a club that has virtually no chance of winning the league/CL anytime soon? He probably looks at Gerrard and doesn't want to make the same mistakes.

This was the first thing I thought when I read the interview. Liverpool are going to need to win the FA cup and make some strong signings, especially if they don't make the top 4 to have any hope of making him commit to them at any price.

I think that's more likely to be down to FSG and their wage structure than the Suárez clause saga.

I don't think he's done it consistently at a high enough level to justify the hype, I agree he's in danger of not living up to the hype. The hype is too much at this stage, the type of big club move he seems to be angling for would not develop him as much as staying at Liverpool where he's playing every week and pretty much first name on the team sheet.

A footballers career is too short. If he doesnt think that Liverpool will be challenging any time soon, he should waste the next 3/4 years just playing?

If he was shit, Liverpool wouldnt hesitate to move him on. He is doing the same thing.

That's because he's been played as a wingback and a lone striker for most of the season.

Liverpool is not the only club that can nurture young talent, though.

He said he would have signed a contract for less money last year. He had two and a half years on his current contract then. If he implies that he would have signed last season because of the title challenge and now he's thinking because Liverpool is going nowhere, he's just thick about Liverpool. It may or may not be about the money, and I'm not sure about the behind the scene mechanics at Liverpool, but surely this is a waste of an interview? 4 days before they play Arsenal in a must win game, this is like a distraction? Don't get me wrong, I'm loving this because it's happening at Liverpool, but he does come across as crass. He's not Lionel Messi at 18, playing Champions League and winning leagues, he plays for Liverpool.

To me, it sounds like him getting back at Liverpool because Rodgers said that Sterling is the one who wanted to hold off on the contract till end of season. It's just poor management all around, compare that with De Gea, sort of similar positions, but manager doesn't say a thing, player doesn't say a thing, RedCafe goes nuts about no confirmation. I like United's way of dealing with these things.

Yes, that is why I said he went from QPR to Liverpool and he'll go from Liverpool to some big club.
