A footballers career is too short. If he doesnt think that Liverpool will be challenging any time soon, he should waste the next 3/4 years just playing?

If he was shit, Liverpool wouldnt hesitate to move him on. He is doing the same thing.

Shut up, De Gea might read your comment!

I don't get the vitriol aimed at this kid from a lot of the British media/supporters over this.

The Liverpool of 2015 aren't much bigger or more attractive than Spurs, nobody was questioning Bale's judgement when he wanted out for Madrid.

Have to agree 100%, just look at their signings and it proves it. Yes they have a huge fan base are impressive history but so has AC Milan and no one will think about going there even for money.

Liverpool is not the only club that can nurture young talent, though.

True, just think he's very well placed there to develop over the next couple of years. Not that I actually give a flying fig about his career, have watched him following England, majorly overhyped.

Your living in a patriotic fantasy. Campbell would have been loved by you. The same way you still support Rooney even though 4 years ago he was ready to go to Manchester City who was pushing us for the title (Sounds like Rivalry to me).

Rooney was never 'ready to go to Manchester City'. This is utter nonsense.

I'd take Sterling over any of the other wide forwards we are linked with, plus he's English and Dyke is going to make that an issue in the next season or 2, we need to grab the best options.

Abroad, as he stated from his own mouth.

Where do you get the idea he was going to City?

His agent was actively talking to City... Saying abroad publicly is very nice...

But where exactly abroad was he going? Madrid? Barcelona? Neither wanted or needed him at the time.

Maybe he had a deal lined up with AC Milan ;)

Nothing quite like saying your flattered by Arsenal interest, before a massive game at the weekend that'll have a huge bearing on your CL ambitions. Could of avoided that, but he didn't. Up front as well probably .

Maybe he looks across the dressing room at the departing captain and sees what a hollow shell of disappointment he is and doesn't want to end up like him.

Anyone noticed he's suddenly a dick according to the media, now that he might leave the nation's sweethearts?

RAWK appears to believe that spunking £100 million quid on absolute garbage is the moneyball system.

They can't attract big players even with European football so them missing out on CL and selling Sterling for £30-40m won't make a difference, they'll just spend it on shite again.

Slightly off topic but why is this thread in the transfer forum?, we have ZERO chance of getting him even if we wanted him.

Which will be hilarious to see and why I want it to happen.

Transfer forum is not just for United related transfers. It's in the transfer forum because it looks like he might be leaving Liverpool. Simple.

Think that lad misspelled La.

I watched his interview. What an odd interview.

He basically contradicted himself throughout and it just came off as him pretty much saying that he's open to leaving.

Sounds like another PR disaster for 'Pool. Expect a cringey statement and t-shirts soon.

Probably being biased but I see this guy being one injury away from being the new Wlacott, Lennon or Downing.

Walcott is a much better player than the other two mentioned. Though we are yet to see how he will really recover from his injury.

Yeah, I share that sentiment. He's definitely open to leaving if you hear him talk about Spain or winning a lot of trophies. At first, I was conviced he'd sign the new contract eventually but right now I cannot make my mind up about it. Maybe we should've extended his contract last year when we were flying high and everyone was happy. The sale of Suarez and the immenent Gerrard departure are certainly factors here. Simply but, Rodgers is going to have to bring in some quality players in the summer in order to convice Sterling to stay. I still believe he's willing to stay at Liverpool if we prove that we're able to challenge for the title or at least be a very strong top 4 side - which isn't an easy thing to do of course...

Also, I love him as a player but there are times he comes across as a tad.. simple, by lack of a more suitable description. Of course he has ambition and all that but he doesn't seem to be one of the brightest or most intelligent footballers off the pitch.

For a player who came through the reserves (even if they did buy him at 16 I think), he really doesnt care about Liverpool does he? Imagine if we somehow managed to bag him, I'm sure we'd be capable of offering enough money for Liverpool to accept it eventually as well. Would be even better then taking RVP from Arsenal, the meltdown would be amazing from pool fans

Think he's definitely become a bit too big for his own shoes though. He has been pretty disappointing for the most part this season but he talks as if he's outgrown Liverpool already and should do better.

He's clearly disappointed at being sacrificed to be playing wingback ahead of Lallana and Coutinho. Looks like Brendan didn't even explain why he's playing there as well.

I think this guy should have a little patience and appreciation for the team who gave him the chance to debut. It must be frustrating for Liverpool caring for a player, watch him grow and when it's someone in football, see how he refuses to renew, even offering him more than he deserves

My girlfriend thinks Sterling is easily the best looking footballer on the planet, I possibly agree.

God I'd love it if we signed him.

He's not even the best looking Liverpool player :wenger:

Yeah, I never did understand that decision... Hell, Glen Johnson would probably be better than Sterling at RWB, and Glen Johnson shouldn't be better than anyone at anything on a football pitch.

Isnt that how it goes for most clubs when they develop a top prospect?

I can see where hes coming from. What surprises me is how little positive words he has to say about Liverpool and Rodgers.

This interview is pretty strange. Doesn't actually clarify anything and I would say he's actually made it a little worse. So many ambiguous answers.

He says signing a new contract is not really about top four then later says if they offered him a contract towards the end of last season he would have 'definitely' signed for less money.

Talking about how flattering it is to be linked with clubs like Arsenal etc

I never thought he would actually leave but after hearing this interview I genuinely believe he could be leaving in the summer window.

This interview wasn't a good idea. He needed his agent in there to help him!

He is not very smart imo,nor is smart idea doing this interview. He talks a lot about his future, trophies and then he says how in this time last year he would sign a contract under 100k ,he is like a football fan, fickle. Last year things looked great so he would sign, this year no so much so he wont i mean how stupid can you be. If he signed last year wonder what he would do now, also who knows what Liverpool gonna win or not in the future.

It's pretty clear now that it's not about the money, he simply fancies himself playing for a top club challenging for titles with regular CL football, the money will follow accordingly.

He's certainly off, and the sooner the better for liverpool.

Think that lad misspelled La.

That lad is a girl.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. I imagine it will go like this.

End of Season:
LFC -- So Raheem, about that contract?
RS -- Dude. I'm on my hols. Seriously. Show some respect.

Two weeks in Benidorm later:
LFC -- Um?
RS -- Let me see some ambition in the transfer market. I want to be sure we'll be able to compete. Don't you know who I am?

Pre-Season
LFC -- Err?
RS -- Plenty of time left on my contract. No need to rush. Let's sort this out next summer. Like Steve McManamanamanaman and Michael Owen.

And so on ad infinitum

In my world, if it isn't sorted before the transfer window opens, we should show our ambition by immediately buying a replacement - who should have been lined up for at least a month - and then selling Sterling abroad. But given our recent form in the transfer market, that's the very last thing that's going to happen.
