Queen Elizabeth II | 1926-2022 | Rest in Peace

I can't understand some of the crap on here. My word the woman is no longer here. I'm not a royalist by far there's a difference in not being one and having RESPECT for a woman who didn't ask to be Queen wasn't born to be one .

Great Britain is that because she put the Great back into it. We have in Great Britain a Royal family get over it and used to it there not going anywhere and if they did , this fecking country is already split with useless devolved governments it would get even worse . I can put up with a 12 day hiatus of doing feck all, she did a job for over 70 years. ... jury's out on King Charles the 3rd. ..

What do you think a royalist is?

A quick google says Ptolemy used the term Great Britain 2000 years ago, she wasn't that old.

Great Britain is great because it’s the larger of the two British Isles. Nothing to do with the Queen.

What are you even going on about? Hardly anyone has sad a bad thing about her. Weird post.

Finally, we are actually United KINGdom. Bloody woke lefties.

Might have missed the discussion so sorry. But does anyone else think that for all her brilliant statesmanship and comparatively better behaviour to her predecessors, she made a blunder by not trying to stop Brexit. It was pretty clear that the leave campaign was built on lies and that the referendum promise was nothing but a ploy to gain far right votes by the Tories. There was literally no tangible benefit to Brexit and the queen should have stepped in to prevent the economic downfall of her kingdom?
I think, through the House of Lords, we had our best shot to stop the descent into madness.

As May was reaching crisis point with Brexit there was a moment when the Lords stopped her treaty and there was open talk of creating a "government of national unity" with moderates across the main parties talking of creating a "commission for Brexit" to potentially investigate it, review options etc.

However this idea seemed to get hung up because certain people (rumoured to be Corbyn and some others within Tory party) were demanding specific roles in this government.

Ultimately both sides felt an election was the best way to solve it...and that proved disastrous allowing Boris in.

So the House of Lords (over which the Monarch has the most influence) tried to give us a second chance, but the parties and the people fecked it up.

When is the funeral then? I’ve got an MOT booked on the Monday, so inconsiderate

Who doesn’t like a bit of Pomp and historical ceremony

fascinating to watch

this is only going to strengthen the Monach

in a country where we seem to lack any tradition, it’s always a nice change to see our Monach present a huge historical tradition, even if it is at the sad expense of the passing of the Queen

as much as what I think the idea of royalty is today a dated idea, it does little harm and upholds one of the few traditions we have

I’d rather see Amazon and Google actually pay proportionate taxes and the Lords of the House of Lords £300 a day earnings be scrapped baring in mind there are 800 of them!! (£240k a day!! Or £87 million a year on these lords that do nothing) than see the Monachy go

Yeah, let's get some things straight.

- We have devolved governments because the people in those COUNTRIES wanted it.
- The Great in Britain came under the Stewart family who were on the throne at the time, feck all to do with the Windsor's. And the Stewarts were from that "useless devolved" place up North, not the place you REALLY mean when you say "Great Britain".
- also worth pointing out as well that the current family wouldn't be in their position were it not for a ban on succession against Catholics at the time.

Also, apart from one person who was banned for the distasteful comment about her passing, there's been nothing disrespectful said. Unless your bar for Disrespect is anything other than unbridled devotion and any utterance that questions why we still use a archaic feudal model in a modern democracy is unacceptable. And, yes she's passed away, but it's definitely the time to talk about it since her heir was immediately sworn in. Didn't see much respect from them just immediately getting to work crowning the next person...

if only there wasn't some kind of system which made people lords in the first place. would be a good place to start if only we knew what it was.

She’d have found herself at the sharp end of a guillotine

I’m not a royalist, far from it, but I really don’t think it’s too much to ask that we all spend our lives in symbolic servile deference to a weird archaic tradition of hereditary power.

I quite like his reaction here. Dude's just lost his mum and is involved in a really high pressure ceremony, and they give him a tiny fecking table. If it was me I would've chucked the tray on the floor and demanded a servant pick it up.
