It seems like your average Xbox only consumer world rather quietly grumble about gaming being stale, than look elsewhere to see what's out.

Ps5 exclusives aren’t doing anything new at all
The games are fun, and there's been a good few. Maybe that's what you're missing. Fun games, games that are fun.

Do you think Starfield is going to be something new? Redfall was trying to be new, how did that go?

We have PSVR and people are like aaaargh! Too new, give me what I'm used to! It was mentioned in that thread, if you want innovation there's plenty of that out there.

XBox only gamers are happy to stick with what's on GP, don't buy new innovative games unless it's handed to them on GP, and won't even entertain the thought that there's good stuff worth playing elsewhere.

So MS will (and do) take that for granted and keep serving up the same shit as the expectation that they should be better just isn't there. Y'all are happy with what you have, so it seems... Don't shoot the messenger.

It's about the restriction of games on other platforms in general. Activision and MS seem to have presented a case claiming that there'd be a least a limited time they'd commit to for the likes of COD on the PS and Switch, but it appears to be vague especially when they were asked what the plans were for Nintendo's systems and they couldn't even show working tech on it. I haven't read the whole thing, but it appears the focus on the "cloud" is about the future and lack of rival set ups thus easier for them to find grounds to block, but in general it's definitely about the monopoly. They are not convinced, as none of us should be, that MS will keep their word. Well that and not enough palms were greased no doubt.

But there's a dedicated thread for this chat.

That's (the bolded) not quite the impression I got. They seemed pretty convinced that MS wouldn't benefit from making games exclusive on console anyways, and didn't seem concerned on that front.

Agree entirely that the risk which turned their decision is long term monopoly, at least in general. Agree as well that they don't seem to have greased enough palms, which from an MS perspective they probably should have done.

There really hasn't. I think xbox's exclusives might be better. Which isn't to say they're good just that sony's output has been that shit
The idea that any of them will refresh someone who finds gaming stale is pretty laughable.

I don't have either next gen console yet. I'd get a PS5 out of the two, but considering the price for the disk version is still around £500 it's not really good value for money at the moment. Would love to play Diablo 4 on it, though.

Hang on, what's not innovative about sequels to Spider-man, God of War, Ratchet and Clank, and Horizon? Not to mention that remake of Demons Souls.

I don't think you'll find many people who claim that Sony's first party output has been particularly innovative or original, but to call it "that shit", especially in comparison to MS's first party output, is certainly a unique take.

Perhaps people should take a step back and just accept that if something isn't for them, it isn't automatically shit. Let's keep that term for stuff that actually deserves it, like Forspoken or Jedi Survivor's pc version or stuff like that.

Aren't they all a bit PG (apart from God of War)? My friends with next gen consoles have been on about the Harry Potter and Star Wars games recently. It's nice that 10 year olds and 60 year olds can play the same games, but it feels underwhelming.

It's a genuinely mental take. Whatever the benefits of Xbox over PS (and there are quite a few), better exclusives is not one of them
This is what happens when you go so long without good games.... You loose all perspective and can't tell good from shite.

I've noticed a new trend on shitting on Sony's first party titles for not being innovative. How many sequels take a huge shift from what made the original popular? I can only think of Nintendo titles that do this. It's going to make the schadenfreude when Starfield comes out when funnier.

Halo had a stab at it but it didn't go so well.

Well there's part of the reason these big AAA titles don't tend to move away from what made it popular in the first place. If it were a film in a trilogy noone would expect it to be radically different to the first film, but using GoW as an example, many expected Santa Monica to change up the whole game, ignoring the fact they massively expanded on everything from the first.

I feel like people are judging sony on their ps4 output or something. Returnal, Horizon 2 and God of War 2 in nearly 3 years isn't some unassailable, excellent output. Its one and half good games - pretty shit. I honestly think MS Flight Sim, Sea of Thieves and Forza Horizon are a better selection of exclusives, I find it weird thats laughable to be honest.

You missed Ratchet & Clank, Miles Morales, Demons Souls remake, Gran Turismo - all really good exclusives.

Also Sea of Thieves is a 5 year old game.

Forza and Flight Sim, I mean fair enough they are both really well received games but Flight Sim is very niche and I found Forza incredibly samey and dull.

you actually missed easily the best MS exclusive - HiFi Rush

I missed loads, pentiment and so on. I'm not including a kids game because im not 7 - xbox has a few that no one on this site will play either. Spiderman isn't a ps5 exclusive its a short expansion to a ps4 game. Demons Souls is 15 years old and feels it if you touch any of FROM's modern games.
I included Forza Horizon because it fun. Unlike racing simulators like Gran Turismo which i find boring, I'm told theres much better elsewhere regardless.

Literally every Xbox game you mention was simultaneously released on both the XBONE and PC...

Pointless conversation, I think the fact that we all found it laughable shows his ridiculous this opinion is. I don't think even the most diehard Microsoft fans would claim the Xbox exclusives have been better.

An actual list of first party titles since the PS5's release would include the following:
- Miles Morales
- Demon's Souls
- Astro's Playroom
- Sackboy: A Big Adventure
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- Returnal
- Horizon: Forbidden West + Burning Shores
- Gran Turismo 7
- God of War: Ragnarok

Is that a list that has to blow everyone away? No, everyone has their own tastes and if you're not into these types of games, fair enough. Is that a list that can be labeled as "that shit" and, objectively speaking, could fail to measure up to MS's first party output? It's too ridiculous to even consider and you're kidding yourself if you believe that.

Again, if you personally prefer MS's output, that is absolutely fair. But don't try to sell that opinion as more than it is.

Also, if we're going back as far as Sea of Thieves' release, a whole additional list of Sony titles come into play.

I see you cant make a coherent argument against it. Cool

Sackboy was a great little game and Returnal probably the best game I’ve played this gen.

FF16 coming soon along with FF7 Rebirth (though I’m very doubtful this will be a 2023 release) Spider-Man 2 amongst others. The idea Sony hasn’t produced any exclusives is laughable.

the annoying thing is I’m a gamer geek and would love a reason to own an Xbox but MS just don’t give me enough of one.

Yeah I used to have both ps and Xbox in the last gen, dropped the Xbox this gen because found ps exclusives better in general.

Game pass was good but Sony's offering is good enough for me.

Only reason I'd get the Xbox series now is to play online with the son, but he's shit and plays Minecraft and Fortnite.

Do i really need to go through and list every single MS exclusive over the same period? Astro's Playroom? Seriously?
I feel like Sea of Thieves deserves a mention by virtue of still being developed, still being active. Happy enough to drop it, my argument is more that Sony's exclusives are pretty crap than MS are good.

Is your son @Vidyoyo ?

You dont want to compare this shit to pc gaming mate.

You’re in a very small minority and the gaming world thinks you are chatting bollocks.

 ok so you're just being a troll then, later.

Looking from afar previously without either Xbox One/X or PS4/5 I thought PS exclusives really missed good shooters (FPS or third person) and most were the same (long story driven third person adventure games, GoW, Uncharted, Last of Us etc). That was a reason why I bought the Xbox 360, to play Halo 3 and Gears of War.

I currently have a Series X, though I'll admit the reason why was because I couldn't get a PS5 and I wanted a next-gen console.

Really enjoyed Halo Infinite and Hi-Fi Rush amongst the exclusives but what I enjoy the most honestly is GamePass and the amount of games I can play there for a small monthly fee. Already started FIFA 22 on it and Cricket 22, neither are exclusives but enjoy that I can pick up a game from a huge list for "free" and start playing it.

Why be so dismissive of Astro's Playroom? It's a short game, sure, but it's absolutely fantastic. They all count.

In any case, if you're just going to continue repeating that Sony's first party titles are pretty crap while MS's are good, there's no point going on. It's your opinion, just be content with that and stop trying to act like it's somehow a valid argument.

Sony should do more with the Astrobot series. The VR game was excellent and by all accounts the haptic game is also good.

Also, what happened with Bluepoint? They used to do some cracking remakes/masters
