Protests following the killing of George Floyd

Trump's tweets are getting more and more insane.

We've known he's wanted a war for his entire presidency. He banked on it being Iran and riding the wave of rampant Islamophobia in the US but he might actually get the bigger prize here of a black vs white race war. He's gagging for it.

I think it's a mistake to view Trump as someone who wants war. I'd say by the standards of much of the Republican establishment, he cannot be characterised as a warmonger. North Korea would be a good example, in 2017 he went from spouting violent rhetoric to embracing Kim Jong-un within weeks as soon as Pyongyang expressed a willingness to talk. With Iran, too, he showed a willingness to escalate tension only to a certain point. It was a warning to Tehran, not an attempt to goad them into war, which his actions ultimately reflected.

As for what he's doing with his rhetoric now, I'd guess he's trying to mobilise his base supporters and present himself as in control of the developments. Certainly, my first instinct on reading those tweets is that he is insane, but it's not a new development for him. I gave up paying attention to his tweets a long time ago, I'd lose sanity if I paid them too much attention.

Governor of Minnesota says only 20% of those arrested during the protests were from within the state

He said 80% of the arrests were of people from outside the area. The state's Department of Public Safety is also now looking into the possibility of organised crime involved in the looting.

He is goading protestors into have another go tonight. He is desperate for this whole thing to properly kick off.

But it won't be a white vs black fight, as plenty of whites are on team #BlackLivesMatter

I still don't understand how he benefits in a USA election if police or security personnel kill civilians and inspire a genuine ruckus.

He will preach that the US is under attack from "Antifa", half the country will believe him and be compelled to vote to keep "radical left democrats" away from the presidency. You also deepen the divide on the other side, people will want reforms and move further to the left. A rift will appear/deepen between them and a centrist like Biden, they might stay at home on election night. Depending on how this plays out he might also have fun with a state of emergency and bans against left wing groups.
Oh and no one has time to talk about Corona, the state of the economy, joblessness or bleach.

I think that's a unique way of looking at the killing of Soleimani.

100%. It's not even subtle.

Yep. If you ever needed proof that the Republican Party co-opted major aspects of fascism after World War II...

Wait - I heard Mark Furhman appeared on Fox News? What the hell?

I live 8 blocks away from the Barclays Center and didn't even realize any of this was going on. I just heard non-stop sirens all last night (they are still going on now) and thought nothing of it. Heartbreaking but as a black man living in the US, none of this is even that shocking.

I just read that the chauvin's soon to be ex wife is Hmong. He's gonna say "wah I can't be racist! I married a yella who understands traditional family roles".
Some are saying the divorce is only to protect assets, have no idea if that's true.

Thanks. I really dont' understand how police officers are trained in the US, the violence isn't exclusive to the US but they do it in a relatively individualistic way which is dangerous if the mob is a little bit organized and ready to go far. In some countries some of these officers would have easily been killed.

From a UK perspective I often question what training they obtain in the US. In a public order situation that is very dangerous and quite comical. It's quite clear the red mist had descended and as a rule of thumb you should never let yourself be consumed into a large crowd for quite obvious reasons. It's just a shambles and that's when people on both sides get badly hurt.

It's funny how so many conspiracy theories are coming up from different angles. I would love to hear why people believe some, but straight away dismiss others.

To call this predictable would be an understatement.

Maybe Trump is trying to go all Charlie Manson and get a full blown race war going? He's loving pouring gasoline onto the fire at every stage.
Helter Skelter indeed.....oh, and then he can cancel the election in November. Sorted!

His Trump trolling base are now armed with their talking point .It was Antifa.
