Protests following the killing of George Floyd

Our country allows for peaceful protests, but there is no reason for violence.
There's no need for anger when you have everything.

Amazing then (for her) that she was just at a celebration of Memorial Day in which we remember (among many others) the men who died in the Revolution, shooting at their own government.

I asked several people yesterday “oh yeah? Well, how do you feel about the Sons of Liberty?”

I have no clue what’s going on in those videos... but no, that’s not the US Army.

The fact that you actually answered makes me laugh. It's most likely a militia, which one is the question.

That's sad to see them act in a misguided way in terms of burning an American flag and defacing federal property. You don't fight crime with crime and that isn't rioting nor protesting, that's being juvenile and petty.

Yes you do.

The old ways haven’t worked. Burn the flag daily until they listen.

I was going to ask if they even know how to operate those guns or even know anything about them and I just remembered that it’s America so they most likely do. And not because of cod either.

This is funny but at the same time it’s sad because to them this is probably what it seems like. The little one looks no older than 11, I doubt any of them truly comprehend the magnitude of it all.
I would imagine that the kids would be absolutely shitting themselves. And if they’re not, then they’re probably psychopaths

'Give me your tired,
Your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,
Send these, the homeless...so I can shoot at them.'

You’ll have to explain this militia thing to me. Are these like a state level army? Or just vigilantes?

They are vigilantes, here you can see a list of some of them. I don't remember all the details but it's pretty complicated because some are legal and others aren't, I'm pretty sure that none of the legal ones can have kids as members.

People in the comments of the tweets are saying stuff like ‘feck them kids’ and they’ll still get their ass beat and stuff like that. Don’t think that’s really fair. They look, what, 8, 9, 13 at the oldest? They probably think or have been told and made to believe that they are doing a ‘good thing’ and have no idea what this whole situation even stemmed from.

It's child abuse.

Wait till they find out that about 20% fought in the revolution. Talk about a rebranding job.

Roughly as many were active supporters of continued British rule as were active supporters of the independence movement, at least in the beginning, is what I've read. And it makes a certain amount of sense, since the American Revolution was largely a change at the top, with little change at the bottom. The elites remained the elites.

Are these Militia groups legal then?

Crazy country America is..

They do look like Sheriffs uniforms and for me it's a bad idea.

Yes but they’re not designed for you.

EVERYONE that lives there knows the difference. You, me, and every other fcuk-knuckle on the internet doesnt need to know the colour of EMT uniforms for every place on earth.

I know - I just think it's funny that their "it only took 3% to win" mantra is so far off.

That's a strange tone to use when nothing in my post was aggressive or disrespectful to anyone.

It's probably true some of them are properly trained and could handle themselves in a legit incident. That said, give a 4-man SEAL team or 6-man ODA and I'd wager that entire group would be eliminated by dawn. And that's without having/needing an assigned CCT or TACP to call in air power.

Is this just the right to bear arms, like every other citizen? Or do they have another sort of special status in the eyes of the law?
This.

The state militias as they used to exist were federalized and absorbed into the National Guard structure, which itself is under the umbrella of the Department of Defense.

Just hit em at breakfast time.

I've seen that video a few times before and it always makes me cringe watching the "commanding officer" take forever to get out of bed.
