I am all for banning it but am curious how the transfer tweets are going to work. That's what keeps muppets like myself's juices flowing.

They're not really going to work. That's pretty much the sacrifice that we are voting on.

The news will be links to articles, and it'll be a bit slower and not quite as visually organised. It's definitely an understandable loss to some folk.

Its a sacrifice worth the extra effort. I hope his company crashes and burns.

There is definitely an element of the slightly liberal "must ban things I don't like" to this... and that generally backfires, look at who was just elected president. :(
Love me the argument “if the other guys were a little bit more far right the people wouldn’t vote for the actual far right”

Do you feel the same if we ban racist posters?

It's more that trying to force people one way normally backfires, that's all. As is clearly evident!

Are we going to vet the owner of every company we use? That would be tiring. If you had a Tesla, would you be selling it?

Of course not, but X is used by a great many people, it's not all about Musk. I follow a lot of football related accounts and don't really care what Musk is waffling on about.

While I do think Musk is a very strange man with some dangerous agendas, he's fairly easy to ignore... he'll implode at some point and hopefully X will be back under new ownership. I hope they change the name back to Twitter, too.

The bolded we agree on. It's his private vehicle and I think we can agree it's likely he uses it to push the dangerous agendas that you say he has? So that's the reason, we don't want to be a part of that.

The Romans destroyed the library of Alexandria. As Mark Twain said history doesn't repeat itself but it often rhymes.

I think a thread of Twain quotes and essays would be an excellent replacement, an upgrade in fact, and very similar in tone.

I understand that, and that is a perfectly fair point of view, ultimately it's your decision. I would personally hold off for the moment and see how things develop.

You just know Musk is going to fall out with Trump in the next few months...

I think it's quite fine to treat X and Musk a little bit special, obviously vetting the owners of every company I ever indirectly supported would be extremely tedious and rather impossible, but I don't need to boycott every bad motherfecker in the world, it's OK if I just focus on the loudest, the most obnoxious and the richest one.

I'd be obviously selling a Tesla if I had one, I guess all depends on where you live and who your peers are, but at least in my continental Europe bubble owning a Tesla was mainly an identity/prestige thing, vast majority of that prestige is now gone

It's a political witch hunt fuelled by virtue signalling.

The Caf is so much more than discussing transfer rumours, but just watch the traffic on here disappear when there isn't another viable source for this information.
witch hunt
virtue signaling

do you have more of these?

No, we're literally taking a vote.

I voted no, it’s shitty but I’d rather we kept awareness of how far to the right it’s gone and how toxic those people are

Keep it in the open, and challenge it is my view. Without that we’re not keeping an eye on it, and not keeping an awareness of where society is heading.

I don’t think banning is the worst option either though, but it makes sense to wait for a viable alternative to be integrated to the website. Without it we’ll be in the dark somewhat

 The caf was fine before twitter existed and it will be fine after. It might actually help in what a forum should be about - good discourse.

I'd keep the tweets for the rest of this transfer window at least, then revisit it ahead of the summer window.

If all the journos have ditched X for other platforms, then follow them there.
Journos can't quit it - it's a big part of their livelihood. That needs to stop being the case before they leave, which would be aided by banning it here and elsewhere.
Personally I think if we're serious we should remove the letter x from the alphabet.

Extra time world become eggstra time, or ekstra time. If you say them fast enough it's fine. We can have a thread to settle on the new spellings.
Great, now when I look for hardcore pornography I'm gonna be told I'm an egg fecker.

 Quality.

That argument is only valid if they allow the challenges. The reports are the moderation has a strong bias.

You can always keep an eye on any extremists if that's what you need to do.

Both outlets are as bad as each other, only follow a couple on Twitter for info about the football and our club

The only way it’s going to be effectively replaced is if it is effectively boycotted.

Musk and his ilk are straight up dangerous and a legitimate existential threat to society, if you believe that you should take whatever steps you can to limit the scope of their power.

No, Bluesky is a social media platform that's similar in interface/appearance to Twitter, but it's a lot more decentralised and isn't owned (yet) by an obnoxious American billionaire. It was pretty dead until the US election but since then there's been a wave of people (including lots of football journalists and some clubs) from Twitter to Bluesky

Ah right. I've been living under a rock I suppose. Quit Twitter ~6 months ago and haven't looked back since. I think you hear about other social media platforms the most on competing social media platforms

Ah, there's an actual vote now. Good.

[x]Yes

Good riddance. Giving a nazi-owned, nazi-run platform traffic is not something that we need here.
If anything the quality of posts here goes up if people have to actually discuss instead of just vomitting tweets into threads.

Most stuff on my feed is football related and people who put out good content. No idea why anyone needs to keep an eye on 'how far right it's gone'? I mean it's not going to change anything.
Some people just can't help themselves, like those who watch snuff movies and then complain about what they're seeing. You can choose to see what interests you and not all the outside noises.
I hope Elon sells it soon, as it's gone from too far left to too far right. But that's something else I have no control over...
