So using X makes you “pathetic”? Insulting probably half of this forum…!

In all walks of life we end up working for people we don’t like, living in a country with a government we don’t like, using companies owned by greedy horrible billionaires, etc. I don’t really get why this is so different?

Just follow the football stuff on there, it has nothing to do with Musk. Yes he’s a complete idiot, but I personally hope he ends up melting down and disappears - he’s clearly got major issues.

To me it does. It was a pathetic level of communication that dominated twitter even pre Elon, and since Elon the pathetic has become the standard. If people feel offended by me describing something they like as pathetic they have other personal issues they should look into before harping about being insulted by me. (In Twitter terms I'd call them snowflakes, but that'd be pathetic).

Is there even an embedding system for Bluesky at the moment?

Also, how will it help? The vast majority of X posts aren’t on Bluesky so there will be nothing to embed anyway?

It is quite possible but requires some non-trivial server changes. So it will be a while.

These attempts to frame people as some sort of closet Nazi because they use X isn’t really helpful.

The argument to get rid is that Musk is a twat and Twitter is now an unmoderated cesspool.

Not that reading a tweet makes you a Nazi. Obviously.

I'm in favour of a ban but not without some remediations first. An immediate ban will mean we lose some features, like the Transfer Tweets. It's a feature some don't care about, but many do. So there's an element of cutting off your nose to spite your face if we just pull the plug straight away. I want to explore expanding that feature to not be totally reliant on tweets, so any media can be included in it.

I also want Bluesky embeds setup as a replacement before any ban is implemented. However, as others Admins have mentioned, this is non-trivial for various technical reasons I won't go into. Previous efforts hit a dead end but I'm going to spend more time looking into a solution.

I'm closing this thread now as I don't think there's value in continuing the discussion further. Thanks for all the shared opinions and votes.
