The mish mash of terms and labels is infuriating. Do you see the dichotomy as liberal v the right? Because that's really clumsy.

The labelling of Musk as far right is not a baseless reflex pulled out of the air. His own connections to the right have been wol documented, before he did a fascist salute.

He was on stage at the inauguration of Donald Trump, who also has a litany of connections to white supremacists and armed fascistic militia.

Pull your head out of the sand.
Do I have this right, someone thinks that Musk isn''t far-right?

As Rob Bryden said to Kevin Bridges - Unbelievable!

When I'm supreme dictator of Redcafe you can be my minister of explulsions.
You'll never make it to the position if you keep forgetting that we decided to name it "benevolent leader" instead. You're undermining the propaganda efforts by using that correct term!

No. People have taken a post out of context and choosing to interupt it in a way that fits the narrative.
Calling the idea of a ban because of Musk's far right views "pathetic" and then calling it "a political witch hunt fuelled by virtue signalling" certainly gives the impression that you believe this an over the top reaction to the actions of Musk and X and you don't think they're that bad. So no, no one is choosing to interpret it in a way that fits the narrative.

Wait, Musk is a twat but he's being called a nazi now? What did I miss?
He was called that (rightfully) for quite a while but him doing the Nazi salute twice at the inauguration kinda cemented it officially.

Seems I’m in the minority but I don’t think he actually meant to do a Nazi salute.

I do think the guy is an unhinged cnut though, so I voted yes.

I’m also curious how the site would change if we ban twitter.

He’s really trying to backtrack but the cat is out of the bag.

I mean we wouldn't be able to post this:

But I'm fine with that.

Voted no. I've cultivated a good combo of local stuff, industry info and funny leftist accounts on Twitter by deliberately avoiding anything else for years. So given that I won't be deleting my own account it'd be pretty hypocritical for me to act like it should be banned on here. Especially given it's uses for the Transfer Tweet thread, posting goals/highlights...not to mention the Hypernormalisation thread.

Not that I have a say, but one thing I'd suggest is maybe wait a few weeks before making a decision, whatever it turns out to be. The Reddit API protest felt like the biggest thing on the Internet for a few days. /r/NBA even closed the sub during Finals. Something like 6000 subs went private. A few weeks later, after Reddit completely refusing to discuss it, all the subs that closed had quietly reopened and it's never been mentioned again (other than people clowning the NBA mods).

This article gives a bit of an overview of organizations and groups that have now stopped using X: https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/musk-gesture-reddit-ban-1.7439336. It's a decent number. If this movement sustains it momentum, there will be a strong case for many serious content providers (like journalists) to at least also start using BlueSky for their posts (without necessarily abandoning X).

That's me done with this site. A clueless gesture by Musk but not actually a Nazi salute and the ideologically bankrupt left leaning people jump on that. Central Europe is in tatters after the left. Just any opinion that isn't left isn't allowed on the aptly named RedCafe. I'm far from far-right, some of these Republican views are ludicrous but these holier than thou left virtue signalers are the worst of the lot. I will now log out for the last time.

Clueless indeed.

This isn’t an airport there’s no need to announce departures.

I am interested though, how many central european countries have had a left wing government in recent years?

If I knew voting to ban twitter would lead to this, I would have voted harder.

52% have voted for redcafe to break away from X. I think we all know by now that 52% of a vote isn't a large enough margin of victory for such a monumental decision to be taken. I foresee years of trouble & toil if the views of the 48% are ignored.

Redcafe faces a simple and inescapable choice - stability and strong embeds with Bluesky, or chaos with X.

And to think folk say Nazi is yet another word the left have semantically bleached. This place just gets worse and worse as a far left hell hole. So much for just wanting to chat about football.

This snowflake has officially been triggered.

Concerning.

It's not hyberpole. Musk is a fascist. I don't know how many times we keep needing to raise the alarm that the far-right are growing before people stop playing dumb and admit it to themselves that it's here and needs to be combatted

Here's a pic of the second salute. They reacted as you imagine they would.

The mental gymnastics involved in blaming people for calling a Nazi salute, a Nazi salute, is astonishing.

I’m amazed people this stupid manage to dress themselves.

It's interesting that only the far left have an issue with overt nazism. I must have missed an important memo at some point.

I can't be bothered to trawl the posts of last year when this subject came up, but I can well imagine someone saying something like 'he's not really an un-hinged racist moron, it's not like he's on stage doing nazi salutes'.

So, could those saying no to this proposal perhaps define a line which would be too far for them? I mean, there's probably a few steps left between where he is right now and actual gas chambers. How many of those steps is too many for you guys?
