Pro Evolution Soccer 2011

A couple of questions:

Do we know when Konami will release a transfer patch?

How soon do the full kit, team name etc etc patches start surfacing?

How easy is it to put the patch onto a 360?

Thanks :)

For the PS3, there will be OFs on release day.

The patch is due Oct 25th I heard.

For the 360, OFs CAN be done, and I know Dragonskin on PESfan is certainly doing one (not sure the extent of it) but as far as I know it is a little awkward to get them on to the 360 (though easier than it used to be now that you can use USB sticks)

Ta.

Good score from IGN, though the reviewer seemed to think last year's game was really good in its own right, which lessens my trust in them...particularly after the even more shady Fifa review.

I'll be getting this though. Played Fifa round my brother's briefly last night and it wasn't for me. I played two games on the career mode and already there was all manner of shit starting to go wrong. Liverpool sold ALL of their defenders, conceded 4 goals to the computer all of which were EXACTLY the same...two of the goals I scored were also the exact same goal as this, two of the goals I scored on multiplayer were also this goal, still ended up playing the exact same passing moves every time I had the ball, etc...I was already bored, to be honest. FIfa10 in slow motion. Why the feck couldn't they just leave the world cup game as is and add club teams?

With PES at least I know that even if it's shite the Master League will keep me at it for a little while.

Well I've been playing this today on the PC.

I'm not going to lie to you.

It's pretty good, a massive improvement over last years.

How are you playing the full version?

How do you think

Just downloaded a patch for real kits and badges and stuff.

Just get both. That's what i'm gunna do.

I did that last year and ended up getting pissed off with both and giving up on them relatively early. I just ended up wishing that there was a PES FIFA game that combined the best parts of each!

The PES demo is that one that I've returned to the most so think that's the one I'll be getting. The online Master League - if it works as it should - looks superb.

Agree with this. Looks like PES is meant to be played online this year. I'll see how they've managed lag this season before taking the plunge. I'm enjoying FIFA 11 anyway, so there's no hurry.

Whoops I don't know why I deleted my post but I yeah I have played Fifa 11. And I prefer this although I am partial because I have always played PES when I was a kid. Fifa 11 is nothing new to be very honest with you. It seems a bit harder and there are a couple of tweaks here and there but essentially its the same game as the WC game and even Fifa 10. Pes fixed a lot of issues that were existent ever since they went next gen but there are still a lot of bugs that needs to be fixed by Seabass and Co. Having said that, I still prefer playing Pes because it just has more of that wow factor in it but that's just me.

And I'm not sure about the online part. My version probably doesn't support online play.

Cracks rarely do :p

In general I agree with your sentiments though (I'm a PES fan since PES 3). I've been playing FIFA a couple of days now and found it quite bleh. Just tried a couple of games on the PES demo and for the first time since PES 6 I have hopes that there's a footy game other than FM worth playing out there.

Btw, what bugs are annoying you Beer Attack?

 it's not a crack, it's a pirated version but it plays great..aside from the online part of course.

The referee in the demo annoyed the shit out of me but I think they fixed that a bit and they don't call a foul against you for tackles from the side. The physics of the players' fall when tackled is still rusty. For example, if you tackle them from behind, they will fall back on their arse. A bug which bothered me was how the players' boots always goes into the grass...i'm not sure how to explain it but it looks kind of awkward. I haven't really noticed this dribbling bug people speak of so I'm not so sure about that.

I really enjoy playing Be a Legend and the player creation actually impressed me quite a bit as the player did in fact resemble me in some respects. I am not too impressed with the camera angles presented though. I don't really enjoy the vertical angle because I lose my sense of peripheral vision and I can't see my surroundings but when I opt for the wide angle, it loses the sense of realism to it.

Overall, I am pretty satisfied with it but I really wish they could fix the Old Tafford Entrance tunnel because the players still don't come out from the corner. It's not a big task to ask I presume.

Ive had the game for a few days now on the PS3, and although its a cracking game, massive improvements on passing, dribbling etc.. it is yet LITTERED with petty annoyances that Konami have never ironed out:

1. Many tricks, though a great feature, they have implemented the Use of the Right analog stick. This is ok, but tricks get more complicated and you are hardly able to use them during the game as a result. Like one trick includes pressing L2+Right analog stick Up, diagonal right, right and then LEFT with the LEFT analog stick. feck me.

Also, the easy to do "lollipop" which was done with L1 or R2 repeatedly has now shifted to this right analog stick business. Stupid, why change something that was working?

2. Referee. feck me is he retarded. My God, hes retarded. Although there are less yellow cards and sending offs now, they regular fouls are simply stupid and annoyingly recurrent. There are many many many tackles that are clear-cut fine tackles, but the ref never seems to take the whistle out of his feckin mouth which is annoying because you dont get a flowing game because your stoppin every 2 minutes.

3. Defense system. Now basically tackling someone with X is an almost automatic foul unless you get it SPOT ON. So to take the ball off someone you have to literally 'run into him' until you push him off the ball. This is ok, as i used to do that in all the versions. But whats ridiculous is having someone with a body balance of 1 wrestle the likes of Drogba / Rooney off the ball easily. I mean come on guys. You literally have to pass the ball away after a few seconds of "wrestling" otherwise your player is going to have the ball stolen.

4. CPU. Increased difficulty on Top Player. Again, a good thing, but annoyingly flawed. If you run down the wing and just stand there, they dont tackle you. And if you cause a foul within shooting distance (and you will cause MANY fouls, see point number 2 above) consider it a penalty kick. Its a 90% chance of them scoring it. I mean 90th minute, 35 yards out down the right side of the pitch, Naismith against United. What bullshit.

5. Response. The game ruiner I think for me. Lets say the opposition is running down towards your goal, and you slide and as a result the ball goes back to your defenders. Now, you should be able to do one of two things. Either a) control it. or b) immediately clear it / pass it / whatever it. Now I dont know whether this was a mistake or a flaw in the game, but if the ball hasnt reached you and you're mashing away at the square (shoot) / x button (pass) so you either clear it or pass it to a teammate, that wont happen. At least not as immediately as you want it to.

The player has to "control" it first before your input command is registered, which is silly, because if your player is under pressure, he cant carry out the command in time. This happens in corners as well. As a cross is coming in, mashing square button will sometimes result in ... nothing. The ball floats over everyone, and I havent figured out whether its timed as in you're meant to press the button and hold it? I dont know, but theres definitely something not right there.

Oh, and that "flaw" only happens when you're defending. If you're on the attack you can string the passes like theres no tomorrow. Brilliant in that aspect.

So yeh, a brilliant game, many flaws that are difficult to overlook, taint it for me, but not as much as the previous ones. This ones benefits outweigh these flaws, but the flaws in these games, although less in number, are quite bad flaws that do affect the overall enjoyment, especially against CPU.

Oh, and weird decisions on throw ins. Many times have I seen blatant touches by the opponent taking the ball out, resulting in a throw in FOR THEM. Too many for my liking.

One guy actually ran out with the ball and got the throw in.

One example of the game putting a smile on my face was a few days ago I was Milan vs Roma. Got the ball with Pirlo on the half way line and decided to lump it up top where I could see that Pato had the run on his man (radar ftw). Anyway I lumped it foward and it curled round the centre back just past the full back right onto Pato's toe. I've never been able to play that kind of ball before on a footie game.

I got this last night, and I've only played a couple of games. My first impressions were very good though. Mainly I was impressed with the passing, huge improvements and it's fun just pinging the ball about trying to pull off some smooth one touch footie.

My only complaint so far is with the shooting and ball physics. Seems fine during general play but that seems to change on shooting. Ball loses all of its weight and doesn't seem to connect properly with keepers or posts or anything

This is out tomorrow is it not? Any idea if it will be at a special price on day of release anywhere?

Tesco's and Asda should be selling it for around £30 at midnight tonight, although some Asda's have it from 10:30pm.

Just splashed out on a new PC so i'm gonna be playing this game soon enough!

Can't wait to get it fully patched etc.

Bought it today, I think its rubbish. I've been playing Pro Evo ever since the first version, the last three have just been shit.

I'm still getting used to the new controls and gameplay, but so far I'm enjoying it. A bit early to tell, but seems like the best iteration since PES6.

Shooting seem a lot more difficult than in PES10, now you have to be properly positioned and not under heavy pressure to hit the target. Will wait for a proper OF to pop up before I start up ML though.

From the lack of activity in this thread i'm guessting not may people are getting this then? I really enjoyed the demo and will be buying it. I'm gunna leave it for a bit though until some patches are out for the XBox and some updates have been released.

Been playing it for a couple of hours and I think it's brilliant. Feels far more like a game of football than FIFA does, for me at least. Players make intelligent runs, the fact that you have total control over where the ball goes adds immeasurable satisfaction when you deliver the perfect pass and it feels light years ahead of the last version.

There are some niggles. Defending is a little clumsy and hit and miss and the referee is whistle happy when it comes to tackling but they're not enough (yet) to spoil my enjoyment of the game. Unless FIFA is a wholly different game from World Cup I feel I've made the right choice picking PES up instead of its glossy cousin. Doesn't necessarily mean it's everyone's cup of tea but then again PES fans have always existed on the fringes of society!

Picked it up at about 9pm last night in Xtra Vision with a free football. Still haven't had a chance to take it out of the case. Probably won't until Monday. :(
