Pro Evolution Soccer 2011

It's funny, I'm the exact opposite. Playing against the computer gets boring after a couple days for me (Since PES6, which I could play every day all year without it getting boring, despite not being able to play online) where as playing against a human online adds and extra level of competition an removes the scripted feeling.

I think I've played 2 real matches against the computer on FIFA10 since I got it in January.

Should clarify, I hate playing against the computer too. I've only ever really enjoyed playing PES when I'm playing against friends (i.e. real people in the room with me)

None of my real friends can be arsed to hang out and play games any more though so I guess I need to get used to playing against faceless internet gimps. I took Brophs on a couple of times when the last game was just out. He mullered me. The absolute cock.

OK I've played this demo a lot more today and think it's a step forward for Konami but that's not really difficult after the last few releases.

It still feels like a budget game that belongs on XBLA or PS Store to me though. The menus, sound effects etc are horrible and the ball physics are poo.

FIFA again this year then...

Always amuses me that FIFA'tards seem to actually care about shit like that.

Surprised he didn't mention goal celebrations, or commentary.

collision detection seems off, i just slid near someone about a yard away and it fouled him

Presently surprised with the demo. I've always been a Fifa fan boy, but comparing the demos, I had more enjoyment playing PES.

I noticed -
first touchers were much more realistic, they weren't instantly controlled perfectly like Fifa.
Build up was required, felt more rewarding when you created a chance
Midfield was actually important in the game. As Barca on Fifa Busquets was useless in the centre, on PES I needed to play through him more.
Replays were much more realistic, it gave the game a more reslistic edge.
The game speed was realistic, slower and more thoughtful

Better than before but still fires a long way off the mark for me to enjoy.

Passing seems improved but still feels a little unpredictable in terms of where its going to end up
Messi easily moving Van Bommel out of the way didnt seem right
Replays only seem a little better by adding some motion blur
Konami's game presentation (outside of the actual game) still leaves a lot to be desired

Fifa again for me this year

Overall, the gameplay is top notch. Maybe even slightly better than the FIFA demo. But I have some issues with PES that will still make me choose FIFA over it. No commentary, VERY annoying. Yes, FIFA uses the same phrases all the time and that - but it's so quiet and dull without it. Goal celebrations - err, why couldn't I do them? Maybe I'm being a spaz about it. And if PES 2009 is anything to go by, this wont have team names. Just "North London club" "West London club" etc. Which would frustrate me like hell.

Stick to Fifa.

Is it possible to download the demo for the ps3 on the computer then stick it on a usb and plug that into the ps3 and play? It's taking ages to download. It had done about 20% earlier but then some error occurred and when i started it again it started from the beginning!

The ball physics? Surely the most obvious thing that PES has better than Fifa is the far more realistic ball physics?

Just downloaded it. I am slightly biased because I was always a Pro Evo fan but I found this demo to be quite good and a breath of fresh air. The gameplay has improved significantly and the 360 manual passing makes the game so much better in comparison to the toss they released in the past few years. The player movement seems much improved although there is still a touch of robotic movement. I, for one, am loving the camera angle and the graphics or course, are spectacular. The main criticism I have for the demo is, as many of you mentioned, the way players go to ground when tackled. It is as if they defy the laws of physics; it's quite remarkable.

I know it certainly shouldn't be one of their first priorities but they should fix the crowd up. They still look like cardboard cutouts.

Shit menus, rubbish sound effects, no celebrations and not enough boot selection. FIFA again for me.

Haha. Surely people know that there's going to be celebrations in the final build of the game?? Well, none of that bullcrap do-your-own celebration thingy but player specifics celebrations. Pro Evo always had that.

I find the do your own celebraton thing on Fifa extremely stupid and pointless.

Yeh. PES has had better ball physics than FIFA for ever, including this year. Although the ball seems quite heavy. But I like that. Especially while shooting

I really like the celebrations on FIFA, it's not something that will swing a decision 1 way or the other though.

"PEStards" who live in the past like you amuse me - you stick up for a franchise for no apparant reason and you're too stubborn to even try to enjoy a FIFA game. There are some hilariously childish people around here

I was a WE/PES fanatic when it was the best football game bar none. For example, I remember waiting outside a GAME store in Bristol at 8.30am for the Pro Evo Soccer 3 DEMO (which cost £1.99). FIFA used to be a ridiculous pile of shite back in the day, it was a horrible mess of a game.

FIFA is now the superior football game though and old tards like you can't seem to accept that. PES has gone seriously backwards - I played the demo again last night and if that's the best Konami can come up with as an improvement, the franchise is in serious trouble. But us realists already knew that.

Grow up for feck sake.

Come on, I've been across many forums and if there is one sure thing is that the future of the PES franchise isn't in danger as there is still a strong fanbase.Plus EA's spastic attempt at creating "the most realistic" game will not hurt that much.
EA had an opportunity with P.P and P+ to bury PES for good but since their 2 major features are really toned down to what they us believe then there will still be people buying PES.
Neither franchise is in danger, if one of us doesn't like a game and won't buy it there are million others who will

Why do you lot hate EA and FIFA so much? Did they poison your granny's mashed potato or something? :wenger:

I don't hate EA and FIFA, where'd you get that from ?

Not you, the old PES fanboy club of Pogue, Spammy, Solius et al.

I don't get why/how grown men can blindly stick up for a video game year-in, year-out though. It's very embarrassing.

I agree that Fifa is the better game, in terms of technical accomplishment. But i'll be buying PES this year. I enjoyed FIFA10 and really enjoyed the WC game but the fact it's so similar would mean I will be playing the exact same game for 2 years, and i'm a bit bored of it now.

Plus, I really enjoyed the PES demo. It is flawed, but I like it.

It's gay as anything.

Moving back to PES, I might as well share my thoughts having played it.

I think I like it, quite a lot actually. My biggest gripe about last season - the movement of your team-mates -.has improved a lot. The greatest strength of previous PES games - the crossing/shooting ball physics - seems to have got even better. The crap goalie flaw is resolved and, in the two games I played, the referee managed not to piss me off.

I have to agree with Mockney's point about some players not being quick enough. It's very hard to show defenders a clean pair of heels. Too hard. Although I was only just starting to realise that someone like Messi doesn't need to beat people for pace because of his great close control.

My biggest beef about this latest version may also be the best thing about it. I really struggled to get to grips with the manual passing. Which frustrated the hell out of me. If it becomes intuitive it will be a brilliant tweak to the game-play. It it continues to frustrate it will probably stop me playing altogether. Time will tell.

Oh the irony. You're one of the biggest video game-fanboys on here.

Oh and Solius plays FIFA.

I'm not sure about the 'keepers Pogue. They seem brilliant at saving difficult shots but completely inept and catching straight forward efforts. They're useless when rushing out aswell.

As for the passing, I think it's brilliant. When you get a through ball just right

I'm a bit with noodle on that matter. One thing I did like from the WC game, is my team-mates off the ball running. Seems to lack a bit in PES though and it's kind of frustrating when I manage to make a break thru the middle only to have my team-mate not make a run. For some reason though they always make the runs when I haven't cross the center line though. And with the new passing system, I have been able to pull off some fairly long range, great looking thru passes.

Apart from that, I enjoy the demo very, very much. Ball physics, animations looks great and most importantly play great.

FIFA 11 on the other hand, I felt was a big ripoff. Especially if you've played the WC game.

A question I have though.

In the controls it states if you pass and pull the right trigger then you pass and move. I'm not getting anything when I do that. They just stand still. But I did find that if i hit left bumper and pass (same as fifa) then the player maes a run.

Also, how do you command players make a run? In fifa if you have the ball and press LB then other players start to make runs.

Yeah, I've decided I'm sold on this.

The player movement is better than last year, but still not reallly up to the standard it should be. Still not convinced about the goalkeepers, and there are times when the camera angle matched with the flight of the ball just seems completely wrong, but overall it's a major improvement on last year (seriously, try playing PES10 after this...it's so shit by comparison, it almost hurts).

I did see that particular supposed command. Didn't seem to work for me though. The L1 and pass button triggers the 1-2, hence the passer making a run.
